Istanbul hosts the Turkey’s largest international trade finance gathering
2015’s COnFerenCe wAS SuPPOrTed By
Istanbul provided the venue for the latest instalment of GTR’s Turkey Trade & Export Finance Conference 2015, which took place at The Raffles Hotel on 25-26 March 2015. Now the largest annual gathering in Turkey for those companies undertaking international trade and investment and their financial sector partners, 2015’s conference welcomed over 420 senior attendees from across the corporate, financial and state sectors to discuss the latest trade and financing opportunities and network with industry peers.
Reflecting the crucial role of Turkish exports in maintaining economic growth, a host of high-profile speakers participated at the two-day conference including Mustafa Çıkrıkcıoğlu, Deputy Chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Bader Aslan, Director-General of Economic Research, Ministry of Economy, Republic of Turkey and Ömer Cihad Vardan, President of the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK). They were joined on the conference programme by leading companies including Anadolu Efes, Vestel Group, Kibar Group and Asil Çelik, as well as finance sector leaders including Yapi Kredi Bankasi, HSBC and Turk Eximbank, providing an important forum for the exchange of insights on the key business and financing opportunities and risk management challenges being faced in global markets by Turkey’s international companies.
An in-depth agenda surveyed European economic performance and the business growth potential offered by
markets across Mena and Sub-Saharan Africa. Innovative financing techniques from the Bank Payment Obligation (BPO) to corporate Sukuk and structured commodity trade financing were covered in practical case-study format, show-casing the full suite of financing options available to facilitate business growth and working capital optimisation.
“We see a number of clear trends developing across today’s global trade finance industry, with challenges to commercial financing being posed by increased compliance demands, regulatory pressures and persistent volatility in key markets” said Peter Gubbins, founder and Managing Director of Global Trade Review (GTR) on the side-lines of the event. “As a result we’re seeing renewed demand for established events such as the Turkey conference that provide the opportunity for the market’s leading players to get together to discuss collaborative solutions, while maintaining initiatives to improve products and services in a sector that is crucial to global commerce and economic growth. Turkey benefits from its position at the very centre of global trade and is very much at the forefront of these efforts.”
The two-day meeting featured numerous networking breakouts, dual content streams for comprehensive topic coverage, and an evening drinks reception on Day 1 which provided the opportunity to continue discussion in a more informal setting.
