TURKEY VULTURE TREE Albuquerque dentistThis morning, my son Rob, my son-in-law John, and I came upon a tree full of Turkey Vultures. Not a pretty bird, but impressive. Turkey vultures are slow to get moving in the cold weather. They like to have warm weather with thermals to give them lift to aid in their take-off. After sitting in a tree during the night, they also pick up dew on their wings, which also hinders their take-off. You can see several of the vultures sunning their wings to get rid of the moisture. The big one sunning its wings has a wing-span of about six feet, being about the same size as the North American Bald Eagles we see here in the winterAfter sitting in the tree all night, they pick up a fair amount of dew, which also weighs them down and hinders their take off, so we see several sunning themselves to get rid of the dew. The big one sunning its wings has a sing-span of about six feet, about the same size as the North American Bald Eagles that visit the Corrales Bosque in the winter.Dr. Guy ClarkClark Family Dental
