The lessons that the Righteous teach us need not necessarily be those of virtue or justice. They may also show us how complex human beings can be, and the actions we take may depend on certain circumstances and situations. A message for future generations is often raised when dealing with the Holocaust. The deeds of the Righteous serve as a model for us of human courage and the virtue of humankind. As people, we realise that most of us are bystanders - and not rescuers who risk their own lives to save others. TASK By referring to the film “Schindler’s List” and its theme of anti-Semitism, discuss: (a) how successful the film has been in promoting a ‘message for future generations” (b) the argument that “the silent majority has a responsibility for the misfortune of its suffering minority”. You will need to include scripture passages to support your views. POINTSPOINTS TOTO NOTENOTE::You will need to refer to the film when making making judgements, analysing points and developing your argument.You will need to include quotes and/or make references to sections of the film in keeping with the point, evidence, explain formula.You will need to include (link) relevant scripture quotes to enhance your points of argument, providing a link to Jesus’ message on this theme (righteousness / helping the suffering). Consider the following suggestions:

Plan your introduction. Use a “hook” (an opening paragraph that catches your reader’s attention). For example:Describe a scene, incident, or bit of dialogue from the film that captures an aspect of the theme of the movie.

What is the historical context of the movie? What is the main situation or source of conflict? What aspects of the film contribute to the theme of the task “promoting a message for future generations”?

Consider aspects such as theme of the movie, setting and characters. Are there any symbols or images that recur in the movie? How do these impact on the message being

delivered in the film? Determine whether the main character, Schindler, can be depicted as a righteous character or not. Ensure that the central argument of the task listed in (b) above is linked to the context of the film and clearly

stated prior to your concluding paragraph.
