TURNHAM GREEN AREA IMPROVEMENT CONSULTATION INTRODUCTION Over recent months the Chiswick Area Committee has been considering outline ideas for improving Turnham Green and the surrounding area. These plans have been worked up into detailed proposals and are now published for consultation with people who live or work locally or use Turnham Green and the surrounding area. The plans fall into four key categories as follows: Turnham Green - new benches, trees and litter bins, improvements and cleaning of the War Memorial and the north east entrance, improvements to shrub beds and paving and possible new paving and entrance. Barley Mow Passage - Proposals for new paving and surfacing to improve pedestrian movement and general environmental improvements including seating and improved lighting. Turnham Green Transport/Traffic Scheme - Reversal of the direction of traffic on Town Hall Avenue to facilitate more efficient movement of buses on routes E3 and 272 and to reduce queuing of traffic on Sutton Lane North. Signalisation of the Chiswick High Road/Town Hall Avenue junction and the Heathfield Terrace/Sutton Court Road junction, including lights-controlled pedestrian crossings for improved traffic flows and pedestrian safety. Note: Bus routes 27 and H91 would also be affected, however the Council is negotiating with London Buses for these services to run entirely via Chiswick High Road, with route 27 eventually extended to Chiswick Business Park. This issue will be the subject of a separate consultation in the affected areas. Chiswick High Road - Dukes Road to Heathfield Terrace (the Post Office) - Proposals for new paving and surfacing to improve pedestrian movement, junction alterations to improve safety and traffic movement, additional parking bays and general environmental improvements including hard landscaping, street trees and shrub planting, seating, cycle stands and litter bins. Each key change has been identified on the map in this document numbered from 1 to 36. Comments are welcomed on these plans, which will inform reports to the Chiswick Area Committee in the Autumn. Implementation of the approved environmental improvements will take place in the Autumn/Winter/Spring 2005/06.
