Wait for the CD to load, then double-click on the ‘My Computer’ icon. You should see the CLM Unit CD icon. Double click the CLM Unit 1 CD to look at the documents, installer (“Setup Unit 1.exe”), folders, and video images that are contained on each CD-ROM. When it opens you should see the icons that are listed below. Open the READ ME FIRST’ document and review the tasks that you may need to complete to use the software. All video clips (e.g., 1.02.xyz) and PDF docu- ments will remain on each CD-ROM. You may want to study the layout of the CD-ROM con- tent because you will be asked to return to it later to perform some tasks. You will ALWAYS need to have the CLM Unit CD inserted in your CD-ROM drive in order to complete the tasks for the CLM Course of Study. NOTE: You do not need to install Unit 1 again if the folder already exists in the CLM Units folder on your desktop. If it does exist, move to Step 3. If you are not sure, continue with installation. Installer will bring up dialogue box stating ‘No installation nec- essary….’ if the unit has already been installed. This CD will install the following programs if your computer does not already have them. If the installer asks if you want to install one or both: 1. Adobe Acrobat Reader. At least version 6.O of Acrobat Reader is required to read the PDF docu- ments provided with the CLM Units. The HELP.PDF is in the Directions folder and provides the ‘essen- tial’ directions for opening and paging through a PDF document. 2. Apple Computer’s QuickTime, required to view the video clips used throughout the CLM Course of Study. If you have difficulty with this please see Appendix B, Troubleshooting. To begin the installation, double click the Setup Unit 1.exe’ icon on the CD. The installer will place a folder on your desk- top, ‘CLM Units V7 Shortcuts’. This folder will contain a shortcut for each CLM Unit that you or others will install (refer to the CLM Units Folder image below). If you are ready to open the unit, double click the ‘CLM Units v7 Shortcuts’ folder on your desktop. Now double click the ‘CLM Unit 1’ shortcut. Once the dialog box appears, type in the password ‘bfskinner’ (do not leave any spaces or periods) and within a few seconds you will see the ‘About’ screen. This screen contains pertinent information about the company that developed the CLM Course of Study. You will find the phone and fax numbers and email address that you may need if you require assistance beyond what your CLM Coach can provide. Click the ‘Start’ button to proceed to the next screen. When you press either button you will go to a ‘Task’ screen. The image below is the first task for CLM Unit 1 (Task 1.01a). When you see a letter after the numbers you can assume that there are multiple parts to the task. The next step is to learn more about how to navigate through the unit. On each page (Task) of the unit you will read some text and then you will be asked to click some buttons to either view In order to master any unit, you will want to get the materials that you need to record your answers for the Handouts/WorkSheets. All participants in the CLM Course of Study will receive CoS binders which correspond to the task numbers within units. If you have the materials then proceed to complete the tasks. In another section of these instructions, you will be able to learn how to navigate around the ‘Question and Answer’ Screens. If you do not have the materials, you can print them. Navigate back to the contents of the CD-ROM. The documents you may need are contained in the electronic folder that’s labeled ‘Unit PDFs’. You should print the Instructor Packet (i.e., ‘Instructor Pkt’). Once you have located or printed these materials then proceed to complete the tasks in the CLM Unit. Next, let’s complete Task 1.02a. Begin by studying the text. Notice that the goldenrod text contains directions for you to follow (e.g. click inside the video screen to activate the control bar then click the video button to start the video clip). Run the video clip and then answer question 1. Next, click the Questions button to see a NEW screen. We call it the ‘Question and Answer’ screen. Our developer, Patricia Carney, has worked really hard to bring this screen to life! The first question ALWAYS appears at the top of the right hand portion of the screen. In the box below the question you will type in your answer. The correct answer will appear briefly in bottom box when you click the “?” button to check your answer at any time. Simply click inside the box and re-type your new answer(s). Once you are satisfied with your answer then click the button to indi- cate that it is your final answer. The word Final’ will be displayed next to your final answer. At any point in time you may review ALL of your final answers. Simply click the “<” but- ton. You will be taken to a NEW Screen that contains a list of all your final answers. Notice that you may print this list at any time.
