Två öppna föreläsningar onsdagen den 13 september, klockan 14-17 i sal 6-0022 Dr. Olga Philaniotou, hedersefor vid grekiska kulturministeriet, och Dr. Robin Barber, emeritus från University of Edinburgh, besöker Institutionen för arkeologi och antik historia och föreläser över: 14:15-15:30 Thermi on Lesbos, 3000 BC - 2017 AD ”The settlement of Thermi, one of the first in the Aegean with urban characteristics, went through 5 main Early Bronze Age phases and was occupied also in the Middle and Late Bronze Age. First excavated (and then back-filled) by Winifred Lamb from 1929-1933, its re-excavation and consolidation by the Greek Archaeological Service from 2005, provides an opportunity for re-assessment of Lamb’s conclusions.” 15:30-17:00 Phylakopi, Melos: fresh light on an old excavation ” A review of the excavation and history of Phylakopi, the first (1896 – 1899) major settlement site to be investigated in the Cyclades, is followed by an examination of evidence for the first phase of City II. Much of this has emerged in the course of recent restudy of the original finds in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.” Efter föreläsningarna äger en enkel mottagning rum i institutionens lunchrum.
