The TVET Sector of Mindanao

The TVET Sector has grown in the last five (5) years (from 2005

to the present)…

Mindanao Private

schools with TVET courses

grew from 2005 to 2009

in an ave. growth rate of

22%; public schools with TVET courses had a lesser

growth rate of 3%.

2009 distribution data shows that Mindanao Tech-Voc Providers consists of 91% from the Private sector and only

9% from the Public sector…

Of the 593 private and 61 public tech-voc training providers, Region XI (Davao) has the highest number of

TVTPs, followed by Regions XII (SOCCKSARGEN) and Region X (Northern Mindanao)*

Student enrolment and student graduation in TVET courses across Mindanao Regions, also grew by 400% from 2005 to 2009, posting an average growth rate of

22% and 38%, respectively ………

Mindanao Regions, also grew from 2005 to 2009 on the average of 46%………

From 2005-2008, 84% of

those enrolled,

graduate from TVET

courses; 85% of those who graduate are

assessed, and 66% of

those assessed, are

certi fi ed by TESDA*

2007 data of TVET graduates showed that, only 24% of these graduates were reported employed…..

In all training modaliti es, both public and private, total enrolment in TVET from 2005-2007 reached 1.1 million; only

61% of those enrolled graduate from their courses, 26% were assessed, and of those assessed, 44% were certi fi ed.

Qualifi ed TVET Trainers (AM/TM &AQ /TQ) increased from 538 to 4335 in 2007-2009.

Training courses in Computer Hardware Servicing NC II, Programming NC IV, Food and Beverages Services NC II, and Auto Servicing Mechanic NC II, are the top four (4) training courses provided by TVIS..

Training in the agribusiness courses are done only by few TVIs with less takers, and mostly concentrated in the

training areas of Food processing, Animal Crop Production, Agricultural Crop Production, Horticulture,

and Aquaculture, indicating inadequacy of supply...

There is no Training Regulations for technology-based entrepre-neurship that could make TVET graduates and SMEs

globally competitive.
