Ponder This

“Even God could do nothing

for someone already full. You

have to be completely empty

to let Him in to do what He

will.”

- Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

O nce when Jesus was praying by

himself, and the disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the

crowds say that I am?” They said in reply, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, ‘One of the ancient prophets has arisen.’” Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter said in reply, “The Christ of God.” He scolded them and directed them not to tell this to anyone.

He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.”

Then he said to all, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”

Centering Prayer An Introduction to Contemplative Practice

St. Albert’s Centering Prayer group, led by JoAnn and Chuck Baird, is on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 pm in the chapel.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CC), § 2653, says:

The Church ‘forcefully and specially exhorts all the Christian faithful…to learn ‘the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ’ (Phil 3:8) by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures…Let them remem-ber, however, that prayer should accompany the reading of Sacred Scripture, so that a dialogue takes place between God and man. For ‘we speak to him when we pray; we listen to him when we read the divine oracles.’

Centering Prayer is a spiritual custom based upon the Word of God, Lectio Divina. We strive to in-crease the time we spend alone with God to 15-20 minutes twice a day. The purpose of our gathering is to encourage one another each month in this sacred, individual practice, in the words of CC, § 2560, in “the encounter of God’s thirst with ours.”

All members of the Centering Prayer group invite you to join them in the joy of this spiritual discipline.

2016 Catholic Service Appeal My parish family:

The annual Catholic Services Appeal, or CSA, raises funds for the various ministries and efforts of Evangelization within the Diocese of Reno. This is an essential appeal and needs the support of all people to the degree that any person can give.

Each parish is given its goal, and any amount donated over that goal is returned to the parish as a rebate. Parishes will use this rebate to do repairs, pay down debt, or help with their charitable works. Saint Albert the Great’s Goal: $ 109,415.41 Amount Pledged in support of goal: $ 99,351.51 Difference: $ 10,063.90 If you have yet to pledge to the CSA please consider doing so at this time.

There are pledge forms in the back of the church, or you may cut out and use this form.

The whole liturgical life of the Church revolves around the Eucharistic sacrifice and the sacraments. There are seven sacraments in the Church: Baptism, Confirmation or Chrismation,

Eucharist, Penance, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony!

The importance of receiving the sacraments is never to be at cost to the individual. Saint Albert the Great Parish is sensitive to those who think a wedding is too expensive and cannot be held at the church.

February 19, 2017 – Father Honesto Agustin will marry anyone wishing to receive the sacrament of Marriage at no cost – and will hold a reception for you also.

If you have been married in a civil ceremony, and wish it blessed by the church, this is also for you. Yes, there is a catch; you must begin preparation by August of this year (that is only 2 months away). Please contact the parish office at 775-747-0722 to begin the registration process.

Annual Jubilee Mass

Bishop Randolph R. Calvo will celebrate the

annual Jubilee Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas

Cathedral on Sunday, June 26, 2016, at 2:00 p.m.

This Mass celebrates the Sacrament of Marriage

and couples will renew their vows.

All couples celebrating wedding anniversaries

are invited to attend.

Please contact your parish office to submit your

names and years married so you can be

recognized at the Mass.

The deadline for submitting names is June 13,

2016.
