The Children of Mary would like to give a big

"Thank You" to all who attended our spaghetti dinner

on August 6th. We hope you enjoyed the food and service. Because of your great generosity we were able to raise $2,010.75! We have not yet raised enough money to purchase our statue, however we do have an incentive to raise enough money. An anonymous donor has offered to donate up to $2,000 dollars to help the Children of Mary purchase a statue of St. Philomena for our parish. We need your help to match this donation! We have until October 1st to raise enough money for this statue! St. Philomena is the patroness of the Children of Mary, and is a wonderful example of what it means to remain strong in our faith. She is prayed to by many people of all diverse ages, around the world. The young virgin who was martyred at age 13, willingly traded her earthly life for heavenly salvation and continues her work today promoting the virtues of purity and sanctity among the world’s youth and bringing the faithful closer to our Blessed Mother and Jesus Christ. St. Philomena is powerful with God and will be a blessing to Saint Christopher Parish. We pray that many will come forward for this cause and be inspired to donate.

God Bless!

WORSHIP

READING 1 IS 56:1, 6-7

Thus says the LORD: Observe what is right, do what is just; for my salvation is about to come, my justice, about to be revealed. The foreigners who join themselves to the LORD, ministering to him, loving the name of the LORD, and becoming his servants— all who keep the sabbath free from profanation and hold to my covenant, them I will bring to my holy mountain and make joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be acceptable on my altar, for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

R. O God, let all the nations praise you! May God have pity on us and bless us;

may he let his face shine upon us. So may your way be known upon earth;

among all nations, your salvation. R. O God, let all the nations praise you!

May the nations be glad and exult because you rule the peoples in equity;

the nations on the earth you guide. R. O God, let all the nations praise you!

May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you!

May God bless us, and may all the ends of the earth fear him! R. O God, let all the nations praise you!

READING 2 ROM 11:13-15, 29-32

Brothers and sisters: I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I glory in my ministry in order to make my race jealous and thus save some of them. For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable. Just as you once disobeyed God but have now received mercy because of their disobedience, so they have now disobeyed in order that, by virtue of the mercy shown to you, they too may now receive mercy. For God delivered all to disobedience, that he might have mercy upon all.

GOSPEL MT 15:21-28

At that time, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out, "Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon." But Jesus did not say a word in answer to her. Jesus' disciples came and asked him, "Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us." He said in reply, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." But the woman came and did Jesus homage, saying, "Lord, help me." He said in reply, "It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs." She said, "Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters." Then Jesus said to her in reply, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish." And the woman's daughter was healed from that hour. Faith Formation

Interested in becoming Catholic? Not sure?

Contact Glory Kramer, who will assist you in asking the right questions. The normal process by which an individual is received into the Catholic Faith is called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults or RCIA for short, and sessions begin soon. During RCIA, participants journey with others (sponsors, team members, and parish representatives) towards the Sacraments of Initiation through individual study, lectures, group prayer, discussion, and service opportunities. Normally, most people are received into the Church at the Easter Vigil. Inquiry is underway.

Annulment Information - Do you or someone

you know need more information about the annulment process? Do you have questions like: What is an annulment? Why is an annulment necessary? Why does a divorced non-Catholic have to get an annulment before marrying a Catholic? How long does the annulment process take and why? How much does an annulment cost? Do I have to wait for my annulment before getting remarried? What if I’m already remarried? Will my children be illegitimate if my marriage is annulled (declared invalid)? A worrkshop will be held in the church undercroft, 9:30-10:30 am on two Sundays, August 20 and 27.

Catechetical Sunday – Our bishops have set

aside the weekend of September 16 and 17 to honor our teachers, helpers and aids for their service as catechists - teaching the gospel to our young people. Some of us learned the gospel from our parents, some of us from friends, some of us from a teacher, some of us from a priest. Wherever we learned it, we owe the people who taught us the greatest debt of thanks any person can owe another. As a community, we will share in a Blessing for Catechists at each Mass on this special weekend. Any other day, personally thank a catechist for his or her service here. In doing so, we not only honor him and/or her, but we also honor those who have taught us! Let him who is taught the Word share all good things with him who teaches. Galatians 6:6

Religious Education (CCD) – Thank you for making

your children's formal religious education a priority. Registration is underway. You may register after any one of the Masses during the month of August or register online at http://www.stchristopherparish.org/ Classes begin on Sunday, September 10.

Saint Meinrad Pilgrimage and Tour, Saturday, September 9, 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. The

Benedictine monks invite us to visit them at their southern Indiana location. The Benedictine tradition came to the Midwest in the 1850s and since then continue as a thriving community of monks who pray, work and live together. Join the monks for prayer in the Archabbey Church and tour the beautiful grounds and historic buildings. The sights and sounds of the grounds of Saint Meinrad are filled with many treasures and opportunities to find God. Before returning home, celebrate Mass with Fr. Hopper on this peaceful campus.*

KY Holy Land Tour, Saturday, October 21, 8:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. This historical (and spiritual)

tour of some of the earliest sites of Catholic heritage in KY develops a great appreciation of our faith. St. Thomas Church and the Basilica of St. Joseph in Bardstown, the Sisters of Nazareth, St. Rose Priory, Holy Cross Church, and the Abbey of Gethsemani make evident the work of our pioneering men and women who came to KY through Baltimore, MD. This is an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the founders of the Roman Catholic Church in Kentucky.*

*For either tour, $30.00 per person (some

scholarships are available) is asked to offset the cost of this trip which includes seating on a chartered coach bus. Register online at www.stchristopherparish.org or pick up a form at the doors of the church.
