Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ, "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" – a young man in today’s gos-pel reading is asking Jesus. In our life we struggle many times to earn money, to win the contest, to buy a new car, and it seems that another thing to inherit is eternal life. Good goal, but different ways to reach it. Our western culture tries to measure eve-rything and put a price tag on it. There is monetary value put on everything. Even in theology we talk about pouring grace into our hearts like we would receive half a
gallon of the grace or two gallons of God’s grace; we like to receive powerful blessings and light pen-ance; a hundred days of indulgence etc. Meanwhile life in God is a mystery of His presence in our actions, decisions, intentions; this is the personal relationship with someone we love. Our relationship with God is reflected in our relations with other people, especially with our family members, our friends, relatives, coworkers, neighbors. It is a blessing when our relations imitate God’s compassion and kindness. Sometimes we face a challenge in human relations, even in the life of family or close neighbors. Not always do we have a solution at hand, because we never thought it could happen to us. Today, we host at our parish Father Charles W. Dahm, O.P., Director of the Archdiocese of Chicago Domestic Violence Outreach. Father Chuck will preach at all Masses this weekend. On Monday evening there will be meeting with Father Chuck in Hayes Center. Even if we have no such issues of domestic violence, it is good to be aware of it and to know how to help those who face it. Sometimes just a good word of advice shared with those who need our help, opens the eyes for the solution. On this coming Tuesday, October 16th, I would like to invite you to a meeting about the great pilgrim-age planned on June 2020. The main point of the pilgrimage is the Oberammergau Passion Play; this famous play has been performed every ten years since 1634 as a tradition by the inhabitants of the village of Oberammergau, Bavaria, Germany. Visitors come from all over the world. Because so many thousands of people travel to Oberammergau for the play we need to make reservations now. Our tour will begin with the Eternal City, namely Rome, and we will also visit Assisi, Florence, Venice, Innsbruck, and Munich. I’m excited about traveling, and some people are envious that I’m again on a trip. This time I would like to take you with me. Please come for the informative meeting, Tuesday, 10/16 @ 7 p.m. in Hayes Center. May God bless you, Father Andrew
Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: ♦ to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist, the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... ♦ to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and workplace... ♦ to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the persecuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved… ♦ to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...

Father Andrew and five members of our parish attended the Archdioce-san Renew My Church
Summit last week in preparation for spir-itual renewal. We need more co-workers in the vineyard. If you are in-terested in being a part of the spiritual renewal movement of evangelization, please contact the rectory. Please keep the parish team and the Archdiocese in your prayers.
There are two individuals at our parish going through the RCIA process in prep-aration for becoming Catholic and re-ceiving sacraments at Easter. Please keep them in your prayers. We are working this RCIA process in conjunc-tion with our grouping parish, St. Be-atrice.

Men’s Rubber-Soled Shoe Drive Today The shoes are being collected for patients at Chica-go Read Mental Health Center. There is a gym for exercise, but only rubber-soled shoes can be worn on the floor there. Read has enough shoes for women, but not enough for men. A basket will be in the narthex, and also in the vestibule, for your shoe donation when you come to Mass. If you for-get your donation this October 13-14 weekend, come to the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Monday or Tuesday and bring it then. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will deliver the shoes to Read on Tuesday, October 16. Your donation of men’s rubber-soled shoes is greatly appreciated.
