Synaxis of the Archangel Michael and the Other Bodiless Powers

The Synaxis of the Chief of the Heavenly Hosts, Archangel Michael and the Other Heavenly Bodiless Powers: Archangels Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Selaphiel, Jehudiel, Barachiel, and Jer-emiel was established at the beginning of the fourth century at the Council of Laodicea, which met several years before the First Ecumenical Council. The 35th Canon of the Council of La-odicea condemned and denounced as heretical the worship of angels as gods and rulers of the world, but affirmed their proper veneration.

A Feast day was established in November, the ninth month after March (with which the year began in ancient times) since there are Nine Ranks of Angels. The eighth day of the month was chosen for the Synaxis of all the Bodiless Powers of Heaven since the Day of the Dread Last Judgment is called the Eighth Day by the holy Fathers. After the end of this age (characterized by its seven days of Creation) will come the Eighth Day, and then “the Son of Man shall come in His Glory and all the holy Angels with Him” (Mt. 25:31).

PARISH 50TH JUBILEE COMMITTEE MEETING: SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 12AFTER THE 9:00 AM DIVINE LITUGY- We will have an important meeting for the Parish 50th Jubilee. All members are asked to be at this meeting. One important bit of Information to pass on is that Bishop John has requested that we move the celebration day of the Jubilee from June 2018 to a date in October 2018. NEW PROCEDURES FOR VIGIL LIGHT CANDLE OFFERINGS IN FRONT OF ICONS IN CHURCH- As you have noticed the large icons have not been along the side walls of the church for quite some time. The large feast day icons will be put up soon but we will not have the hang-ing lamps alongside of them. The proper practice is to place hanging lamps with candles in them above the icon itself so that the flame shines on the face or main part of the icon. In placing the feast day icons in the middle of the wall between each window it would necessitate placing the hanging lamp very high up the wall and it would be quite a task to climb a tall ladder each week to replace the candle in the lamp. Therefore Fr. Diodoro and Fr. Joe upon consultation have decided not to place the lamps by those feast day icons. In order to allow those who wish to have candles burn in memory or honor of their family or friends, we have decided to put up hanging lamps in front of the six icons on the icons screen and then have four more candles available to be lit: two on the tetrapod, the eternal light in the sanctuary, and the one candle on the tomb.

Since the icons have not been on the walls for several months and people have been donating for candles to be lit, we will let those of you who have already donated how many candles you donated for. Then then you can choose a candle by an icon on the icon screen, by the icon on the tetrapod, the candle on the tomb, or the eternal light hanging in the sanctuary.
