PASTOR’S POTPOURRI – More information on Confirmation and the restored order

After the wonder-filled experience of Pope Francis coming to the United States, we are all a little more proud that we are Catholic. It was an historic few days as we watched and listened to the Holy Father in Washington, D.C., New York and Philadelphia. As we have been saying these past three weeks, the Eucha-rist is the source and summit of our Catholic lives and Confirmation strengthens us in our ability to be a Eu-charistic people and to take Christ to the world after we have celebrated liturgy. One of the talks from Phil-adelphia was given by Bishop Robert Barron one of the auxiliary bishops from Los Angeles. Bishop Barron noted that we live in a secular world where not only has there been a crisis in the ordained priesthood but also a crisis among the laity. He quoted that 75% of Catholics do not celebrate Mass on Sunday. He asked how could we take Christ to the world and be on mission to tell people the Good News if we are not nourished by the Eucharist and the Word of God? It is impossible.

In an increasingly secular world, the reality is this: the souls of our children are the battleground. We all must do everything we can to help those who form children win that battle. Our culture will teach them to be nice, fair and feel good about themselves, but it will neglect their profound need for salvation and re-demption. The dominant worldview claims that if they are just accepting and tolerant, then everyone will be happy and the world will be a better place. But this approach is doomed to failure because it offers no help to those who fall short of being nice or good. It does not offer true healing. And although the adher-ents of this feel-good substitute for religion might speak of an eternal reward, God is reduced to a distant deity who is far from their daily lives, rather than an intimate, personal friend who knows us better than we know ourselves.

"40 Days for Life" Fall campaign is under way, Sept 23- Nov 1. This is a worldwide movement of 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. We are invit-ed to pray at the Planned Parenthood location at 7155 East 38th Avenue, Denver. St. Jude

"day" at Planned Parenthood is Thursday, Oct 22, 9AM-5PM. Look for more information on table in Gathering Space.

A Big Thank You to all our current Liturgical Ministers, without your help our Liturgy would be lacking. An ideal number of Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Eucharist (EME’s) would be enough people to cover a three week period without repeating. This would mean we would have 30 EME’s at 5:00pm, 18 at 7:00am, and 36 at the 9:00 and 11:00am Mass-es. Currently we only have 16 at the 5:00pm, 9 at the 7:00am, 24 at the 9:00am, and 22 at the 11:00am Masses. We are also very short on Greeters, Ushers and Lectors at all the masses.

In short we need your help. Please pray and discern if you have a calling to one of these ministries. Please contact Deacon Mike at the Community Center with any questions at 303-988-6435 or ask one of our ministers and they will show you where the applications are in the Church.
