No, no, don’t go there… I’m talking about the celebration

of winter fashion’s favorite texture!! Be it white, black,

faux, neon, vintage, or taxidermied (?!), fur is the infal-

lible answer to powering through the swiftly approach-

ing winter blues. TWIN’s goal is to bring its readers high-

quality taste and style tips in creative, realistic ways – not

to mention our consideration of the college budget in

doing so. Maybe you will be struck with a new way to

wear your winter layers, or maybe you will be inspired to

gather some friends and hit up the vintage shops around

Northeast to find a bargain on a gorgeous fur gilet to

keep you toasty!

From 20 years of living the Minnesota Dream, I can testify

to how nearly impossible it is to feel simultaneously cute

and warm ... as much as we all poke fun at duck boots

and (f)Uggs, they are undeniably life-savers. (I somehow

got lost in the train yard behind UVillage during my first

year at the U of M. It was broad daylight. Laugh if you will

– I’m just grateful for those sartorially shameful Austra-

lian boots on that negative-18-degree day.)

This issue celebrates the timeless glamour of the holi-

days—regardless of how interested in fashion you are,

everyone can feel the magic at this time of year. In this

issue of TWIN, we hope we’ve captured the energy of the

season with not only a visual tutorial on how to get fur

in your life, but that glittery golden watches, 60’s outfits,

DIY holiday cards, and pages upon pages of the most

stunning details of winter will pique your imagination

and warm your heart.

Yours truly,

Leslie Olson

Decree $20

Fossil Stella Stainless Steel Watch $115

Watches have been spotted on more and more fashion forward students’ wrists for the past few seasons, and

they don’t seem to be taking a backseat to cell phone clocks anytime soon. Not only are they a classic accessory that can make an outfit instantly feel put together; they’re outlandishly practical. Whether you’re looking to pick out the perfect gift for your trendy boyfriend, your roommate who seems to always be late to class, or yourself because you deserve a treat, you can always find a watch to match the style and price point you’re looking for!

Shapes

Postcard

Classic

Creating a card out of classic holiday shapes is one of the easiest ways to spice up a thank you card. Choose a

snow-man, pine tree, ornament, mug of cocoa, or anything else you know the recipient will love!

Making your postcard is one of the most unexpected ways to receive a thank you letter in the mail. Make sure

your paper is sturdy enough to not get damaged in the mail.

You really can’t go wrong with a classic thank you note. By adding texture to the decorations or glitter to help it sparkle and shine,

your card will really stand out from the rest. As long as the card reflects your personal style and shows you put an effort into its creation, your appreciation will be transparent.
