What is a Personal-Professional Twitter Account?

A personal-professional twitter (PPT) account is an account that is created for business purposes that utilizes the advantages of personal account characteristics.

PPT accounts have an advantage over traditional brand or business accounts because they allow users to connect with a person rather than corporation.

Branded accounts want users to connect with the brand.

PPT accounts want users to engage with a person representing the brand.

What are your PPT goals?

We established that PPT accounts are created to engage users with someone representing a brand but your goals need to go a step further.

You need to answer WHO, WHAT, WHY and WHERE

Who are you trying to target?

What action do you want that target audience to take on Twitter? After that?

Why is it important that users engage with PPT account?

Where is your target audience?

Twitter Optimization Tips

Name > Handle?

On twitter, your twitter name is more important than your twitter handle because your name is shown when people read your tweets in any feed or search result. (Your handle is shown but it’s faded in grey.)

Outside of twitter, you will promote your twitter handle as a way for people to communicate with you and interact with you on Twitter. There are no two twitter handles a like. Your twitter handle is exclusive to you.

Both names are very important and should be similar, if not, identical for clear branding.

Twitter Optimization Tips

Description

This is your Twitter elevator pitch. Why should people follow you? You get 160 characters to sell yourself.

Include keywords and #hashtags for SEO

Tools such as Followerwonk can search Twitter bios on a keyword basis. (mashable.com)

Include what you can offer

What are you going to tweet about? What insight can you offer?

Avoid clichés

"Coffee expert. Twitterholic. Internet advocate. Music aficionado. Wannabe entrepreneur."

This might read as a totally believable Twitter bio, but it is in fact gobbledygook: made-up, buzzword nonsense from the "Twitter Bio Generator". (mashable.com)

Show your personality

Just because your PPT account services a professional purpose, it doesn't mean you can’t be your charming, witty, funny self : )

(Remember this rule for tweeting)
