The artist’s voice empowered - be passionate and be yourself

Twitter posts are immediate, direct and global. Your followers will see what you have written seconds after you posted it. That’s why Twitter is so useful. Your fans want to know what you, and no-body else but you, has to say. Which means empowerment is at your fingertips. Now, it’s not what your label, manager, publicist or booking agent wants to say - it’s all under your control.

Just in case you're not aware, this is a hashtag:

#

By placing a hashtag in front of a word or phrase (don’t use spaces or punctuation) you can make it searchable. This means if people want to follow a certain topic or conversation then they can search for the hashtagged word simply by clicking on it.

Use hashtags to help spread the conversation

Lady Gaga has over 31 million followers; can she be expected to reply to them all? Well, no, not all of them But then, she doesn’t have to. She simply answers a few. Or retweets a couple of comments each day. That way fans get to see questions are being read and occasionally answered and not ignored

Reply to your fans

Interviews are generally regarded as a necessary evil to give fans more information about what you're up to but it can get depressing when the hundredth journalist asks you the exact same questions as the first. Twitter can give you the ability to conduct an impromptu interview wherever you are.

Do fan interviews, both impromptu and planned ones.

As an artist you lead an extraordinary life. You get to do things most people only dream of. Even if you’re not yet filling Wembley Stadium, you will be touring, playing gigs, jamming in the studio, traveling, hanging out with interesting people, performing at festivals etc. And throughout it all, you have unique perspective.

Live-tweet events - you have a unique perspective that no-one else has

News can be announced by the artist when it happens. Have you decided on the title of your new single? Announce it. A gig date has been confirmed? A TV appearance? A radio playlist? Your track is now available on iTunes or Spotify? Then tell your fans. They want to know. It’s one of the reasons why they followed you.

Break news on your profile

Being connected means we can’t be isolated or exist in our own bubble, oblivious to everything going on around us. As interesting things enter our lives or catch our eye it is natural to share them with our followers so they can check them out too.

Tell Followers about bands, films, books or TV shows

People, when they get invited to, can often have astoundingly good ideas. Although you are the artist, there are millions of incredibly talented people who listen to you and would love to contribute their ideas as photos, artwork or videos. It’s worth considering the power of crowdsourcing whenever you get an opportunity.

Use Twitter to source ideas for artwork, album titles or tour dates
