TWO DAYS COURSE ON 'PRELIMINARY R ECTANGULAR WIRE BENDING IN STRAIGHT WIRE TECHNIQUE' A two days hand on course on "Preliminary Rectan- gular Wire bending in Straight Wire Technique' was held by the Department of Orthodontics, Modern Dental College & Research Centre, Indore on 29th & 30th September, 2008 under the Continuing Dental Education and Research promotion programme of the College. The course was conducted by Professor Dr. Ashima Valiathan , the Chairp erson of Pierre Fauchard Acad- emy, India Section. Professor & Head Department of Orthodontics and Director P.G. Studies . KMC Col- lege of Dental Surgery, Manipal along with her team of faculty members Dr. Sivakumar and Dr. Surnit Gan- dhi . 'I'he course was attended by 40 pustgraduate students from var ious Dental Colleges of Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Baroda, Chennai, Bhopal and Indore. Dr. Ashima Valiathan was also the Chief Guest at the inaugural function which was attended by elite of dental profession of Indore and Bhopal. Dr. Valiathan in her inaugural address said that the continuing dental education programm e are the need of the time and appreciated the efforts of the college management especially the initiative taken and in- centives offered in this direction by the Chairman Dr. Ramesh Badlani. Feed back questionaire received from participants revealed an encouraging response and sense of great satisfaction from the participants. Most of the par- ticipants expre ssed that such hand on courses be conducted more frequently and could be of one week duration or even more and held across the country involving more institutions. PEDODONTICS UPDATE·2008 I ,T .5.C ENTRE FOR DENTAL STUDIES & RESEARCH A scientifi c proeram for updating the knowledge of Pediatric Dentistry oxpertu uud general dental prac- titioners was inaugurated by Brig. (HOllY.) Dr. Ani l Kohli, President, Dental Council of India, at the ITS Centre for Dental Studies and Research, Murad Nagar, on 18 th Aug, 2008. Dr. P.B. Sood, Principal, ITS-CDSR, welcomed the participants and informed that this update comprises of very senior experts in various specialities of den- tistry. There were Vice-chancellors, Deans, Principals and Head of Departments among the panel of experts addressed the two day gathering in the institute. He also informed that the participants of this update are from north to south and each part of the country. Dr Hari Prakash , Director-General, ITS Group of Den- tal Institutions apprised the gathering about impor- tance of such programs on over all development of the specia lity and finally to give benefit to the soci- ety. Dr Ashok Utreja, Guest of Honour, and Head Oral Health Scien ces Centre, PGI MER , Chandigarh, stressed the need of interdisciplinary interactions 76 JPFA , Vol. 22, June, 2008 between various specialities of dentistry for enhance- mont of skilln nnd knowledge and to give benefit to the patients. Dr Anil Kohli, Chief Guest, President, Dental Council of India, released a publication of DCI enti- tles 'DENTISTRY INDIA' continuing Dental Educa- tion, 2 nd issue and a book on Paediatric Dentistry authored by Dr. Shobha Tondon, Dean, College of Dental Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Edu- cation. After inaugurating the Update, Dr Kohli ex- pressed his eagerness to make the dental institutions better for the students and patients. Dr. S. G. Damle, Vice Chancellor, Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana, Ambala, elabo- rated on Oral Health and Fluorides whi leDr. Sho bha Tondon, Dean , College of Dental Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, gave clinical tips on Smile Enhancement. in Pediatric Patients.
