IF YOU RIDE THIS:2015 YAMAHA YZF-R3

    This & That

    Rear Suspension

Suspension at the rear is a seven-position preload adjustable KYB shock providing 4.9 of travel.

    Engine

    The R3 is an all-new machine with a new heart: a liquid-cooled 321cc,

fuel-injected, DOHC four valve, parallel-twin, with offset cylinders

    and forged pistons.

    Chassis

The frame and swingarm of the new R3 are made of steel, and the bikes ratio of swingarm length to wheelbase is almost identical to that of the R1.

While its completely understandable for newbies to motorcycling to watch someone like Valentino Rossi dominate a MotoGP race with his body mere inches off the ground and think to themselves I want to do that, it would be completely irresponsible for them to jump on a motorcycle of that performance caliber. Thats probably why Yamaha introduced the entry-level YZF-R3.

Inspired by its racey and aggressive R-series big brothers the R6 and R1, the brand new R3 offers the perfect amount of sporty-ness, power, and lightweight handling to get new riders feeling confident enough to

dip into the corners and put the shoulders of their tires to good use. The 320cc engine provides a smooth power range delivering about 42hp (according to Yamaha Europe), which is plenty of oomph for the 368-pound machine to get beginning riders hearts racing and keep more skilled riders grinning. With its 30.7 seat height and low $4,990 price tag, the YZF-R3 will appease a plethora of riders.

    Front Suspension

The R3 is outfitted with stout 41mm KYB

fork tubes offering 5.1 of travel.

The baby of the bunch, the all-new CBR 650F includes a peppy in-line four delivering the most horsepower power of the three. Looks may be subjective but its easy to see that with youth comes a sportier look and more aggressive, forward leaning seating. Sporty doesnt necessarily mean compact however, as it has a tad bit more leg room than its competitors. You also get a more up-to-date package with optional ABS and all digital info display.

The least expensive of the three, this bike comes from a long lineage of stealthy warriors. Its that strong heritage that helps the Ninja deliver a striking blow against the competition in the form of a large aftermarket. Footpeg placement allows for deeper lean angles but doesnt offer too much in the way of all day comfortespecially for long legged riders. Those with bad backs will appreciate the more upright riding positon the handlebars place the rider in.

Old dogs dont need new tricks as long as theyre loyal and do what you expect of them. That may be the reason why its been so long that the FZ6R hasnt seen much of anything new other than paint and graphics. Doing all things really well (power delivery, comfort, and handling) is what keeps this bike at the top of many riders lists. Question is, with the competition evolving and offered with new tech like ABS, how many more iterations of BNGs (bold new graphics) can the FZ go through before its retired or finally completely reborn?

M otorcycle owners will often spend countless hours and hundreds if not thousands of dollars customizing their bike to make it look better, ride better, or be more comfortable. But sometimes its the simplest things that can make the biggest difference in the enjoyment and satisfaction you get out of your motorcycle. One area that is ripe for simple bolt-on motorcycle accessories that can make a world of difference on your journey is your handlebars. From air-cushioned motorcycle grips and throttle assist devices to convexed mirrors and GPS units there are countless items that can be installed onto or swapped out with other components on your handlebars.

If you do a lot of long-distance traveling aboard your motorcycle and find that all your battery operated devices such as your MP3 player, smartphone, and GPS are constantly running out of juice then youll definitely want to think about adding some kind of power supply to recharge your gear, such as Bikemasters 12-Volt Power Adapter and Mount ($22.95, part# 326-6184).

In just a few short minutes and with very basic hand tools (a screw driver and 10mm box wrench) you can have power running from your motorcycle battery to your handlebars so you can power up all your gadgets. The Bikemaster Power Adapter will fit 7/8 and 1 handlebars and comes with plenty of electrical lead to run from the bars to your battery. Best of all, the pig tail wiring lead has ring terminals at one end that connect to the battery and has a plug on its opposite end similar to what youll find with most battery powered heated gear and battery maintenance devices. That means you can simply unplug and remove the Bikemaster Power Adapter, leave the pig tail connected to your battery and quickly and easily plug into to a Battery Tender when storing your bike.

In order to power up all your USB devices youll need a USB Power Adapter. Bikemaster offers a Dual Port USB Adapter ($14.95, part# 315-2234) which allows you to connect and power up two devices at once. You can buy the USB adapter individually or in a kit with the 12-Volt Handlebar mount. You can watch a video on how to install this product on the Chaparral Motorsports YouTube channel.

    BIKEMASTER 12-VOLT POWERADAPTER WITH MOUNT

The Bikemaster 12V Power Adapter with Mount comes with everything you need to quickly setup a power supply off of your vehicles battery. The handle bar assembly easily adjusts to fit either 7/8 or 1 bars.

To power or charge devices like your cell phone, GPS, or other electronic accessories, Bikemaster offers this Dual USB Power Adapter. Similar to a cigarette lighter, it simply plugs into the 12V Power Adapter and has two USB ports for multiple devices.

Installation of the 12v Power Adapter is really straight forward, all you have to do is find a suitable place to mount onto your handlebar and determine if you need to use the included rubber reducer.

C hanging out the stock exhaust system on your motorcycle is the easiest way to free up power from your engine. However, installing a performance exhaust system is only the first step. There are two other important things to address when looking to improve the performance of your engine; stuffing more air into your cylinders and then getting everything properly tuned and dialed via an EFI tuner so that your bike is running smoothly and achieving an optimal air/fuel ratio. Messing with your bikes EFI system may sound intimidating to some, but trust us, Vance & Hines has really simplified the process with its Fuelpak.

Whether you own a late-model Harley or a metric motorcycle your bike is electronically fuel injected and is equipped with an electronic control unit (ECU) thats programmed to deliver fuel to the motor based on an air/fuel ratio for the stock air filter and exhaust system. While the ECU can self-adjust for environmental factors such as temperature and altitude, it cant adjust for mechanical changes like adding performance parts. Straight from the manufacturer most motorcycles already have a lean air/fuel map to meet emissions

standards. When you install an aftermarket exhaust, your air/fuel ratio changes to an even leaner condition which can affect the performance of your motorcycle and keep you from realizing the full potential of the exhaust and high flow filter you installed. The Fuelpak from Vance & Hines can get you back in tune quickly and easily.

The Fuelpak allows you to add or subtract fuel via the push button interface for a precise range of refinement in your air/fuel ratio and to deliver

The Fuelpak connects in line of your stock wiring and fuel injectors with OEM stlye connectors.

a custom tailored fuel map. Other systems may require extensive and expensive dyno tuning or the need to download/upload maps via a pc and then flash the ECU to get your bike running perfectly. With the Fuelpak you simply connect the tuner in line with your bikes electronics, set the Vance & Hines corresponding codes and youre off and running.

In addition to adjustability, Vance & Hines is continually developing new tunes/maps for a variety of components and have created a library of more than 10,000 map configurations. So that means if you decide to ditch your Vance & Hines exhaust system and go with some other aftermarket brand or other performance components, chances are Vance & Hines has already defined the settings you need to get your bike running optimally.

Ease of installation and use are key benefits of the Fuelpak. In most cases it plugs directly into the factory wiring harness and ECU using a t-tap and OEM style connectors. Once the Fuelpak is installed all you have to do is input the settings based on the year, make and model of your bike, the size of your engine, and the modifications you have made. Should you ever want/need to remove the Fuelpak

you can easily do so and your motorcycle will return to operating at its original factory settings.

Installing the Vance & Hines Fuelpak will not only get your air/fuel ratio dialed in, it will help deliver a snappier and more responsive throttle, making for a much more fun ride. To see how easy the Fuelpak is to connect and operate be sure to watch our step-by-step install video on the Chaparral Motorpsorts YouTube channel.

  • BLEW BY UCHAPARRALS TURBOD POLARIS RZR XP4 1000

T he Chaparral Motorsports UTV Pro Shop has been burning the candle at both ends churning out customized machine after customized machine. From wheels and tires, AnnLynn Sports cages to in-house designed vehicle wraps, our team of fabricators and techs can handle any task or project thrown their way. When the idea came around to add some extra juice to a 2015 Polaris RZR XP 4 1000 by installing a turbo kit the crew jumped at the opportunity.

These days there are quite a few options when it comes to

adding a turbo to the highly popular Polaris RZR, for this project the decision was made to go with one of the new kits that K&T Performance had just released. Aside from being a complete bolt-on affair that requires no internal engine modifications, the K&T Performance XP 4 1000 Turbo Kit is designed to work off of 91 octane, premium pump gas and significantly increase the power output with only 6psi of boost. Later down the line if the owner wants to get even more oomph out of their machine they can change out the 6lb spring to a heavier spring to

  • increase boost, add some internal mods to the engine, and run the machine on race gas to create serious stump-pulling power.

The kit arrived at the shop with everything necessary for the install including a billet wheel turbo with V band housing, 40mm external wastegate, sheetmetal plenum with additional injectors, air/air intercooler with fan shroud, billet throttle body manifold, stainless steel .120 thick TIG welded header, 2.5 stainless downpipe, fuel controller, and high-flow air filter. Once installed it was

basically a stealth kit with pretty much everything hidden under the bed. The only things that may arise suspicion from other keen RZR owners is the air filter and intake elbow popping out of the rear drivers side of the bed and the Muzzys stainless steel/brushed aluminum dual oval muffler kit that was neatly tucked away at the rear of the UTV.

After installing the turbo the Chaparral Pro Shop team beefed up the suspension with an HCR Racing OEM Stock Suspension Kit. While HCR dubs it the OEM Stock

Suspension Kit, its far from OEM or stock in regards to materials and build quality. A serious upgrade in strength and durability compared to the RZR components, the HCR kit replaced the stock components with heavy duty a-arms and rear trailing arms. Completely boxed in and TIG welded, the HCR kit is made of high-quality materials and features CNCd chromoly mounting points for increased structural integrity. The I-beam look of the HCR

components gave the RZRs suspension a bullet proof look, yet added less than 39 total pounds to the machine.

In addition to improved strength, the kit added an extra 1.25 of ground clearance at the front and rear and increased the overall wheelbase by 1. The longer wheelbase will definitely help make for a much more stable and controlled ride when hammering the throttle across the whoops. Installation was pretty

The HCR Racing a-arms and rear trailing arms are serious improvements over stock.

The dash panel around the rocker switches was dressed up with carbon fiber faceplates.

The bed cover/engine shroud wraps around the back of the roll cage and has a LED brake light strip flushed into it.

Axia Alloy windshield mounts allow for quick and easy removal of the windshield if desired.

straight forward, everything bolted in place of the stock components and only required slight relief cuts for proper clearance. Instead of reinstalling the stock wheels, a new set of Walker Evans Racing Beadlock wheels were shod with GMZ Kahuna tires and mounted in place.

For a more serious off road appearance, the stock cage was ditched and in its place the Chap team installed an AnnLynn Sports Radius Cage. Available for the two-seater and four-seater RZRs, all AnnLynn Sports cages are hand-built in the Chaparral Motorsports UTV Pro Shop. The cages are made of ASTM-1020 1-3/4 OD x .095 D.O.M. steel tubing. The bones/mount lugs are CNC-machined out of billet steel to fit up perfectly with the stock attachment points. The structural components of the cages are all MIG welded, while the smaller tabs for securing the aluminum roof and mounting brackets for accessories like whips and additional lights/LED light bars are TIG welded. The cage that was used for this particular build has a full rear wrap/integrated bumper that offers excellent structural strength and protection for the rear of the car and more importantly, the engine.

Knowing that this turbo powered machine was going to be whipping up a storm of sand and dirt, the stock plastic door skins werent going to cut it so they were tossed to the side an in their place four Lower Half Aluminum Door skins from the Polaris Accessories line were installed. Along with providing additional protection for the driver

and passengers, the skins give the RZR a racey and more finished look, plus they provide additional space for graphics.

Speaking of protection, the build team welded together a one-off windshield frame and then fitted it with a thick piece of automotive-grade laminated glass to keep sand and other debris from peeling away the driver and passengers top layer of facial skin when rocketing across the dunes. At the rear of the car a custom engine shroud was cut and shaped out of sheetmetal and then mounted over the rear bumper of the cage. Louvered accents were incorporated into the top of the shroud to provide extra cooling and airflow as well as allow LED lighting strips mounted underneath the cover to emit an ominous blue hue from the engine compartment. To allow for better nighttime visibility the front of the cage was outfitted with a 40, 240-watt, double row, curved, LED light bar and the rear was set up with a single, 3, 16-watt, Cree LED Floodlight with an amber lens cover.

Inside the RZR the stock seats were replaced with a pair of Black Suede PRP GT SE Seats that had been custom embroidered with the Chaparral logo. Securement for the driver and passenger was handled by black 3, 5-point harnesses also from PRP. Now youre probably thinking why only two seats in a four seater? Well, while the custom engine shroud looks really cool and helps airflow for better overall performance, it also took up the space

Some see blue while others see purple. Sometimes in the right light its blurple.

  • 18 Two Wheel Mania | 1800 841 2960 | www.ChapMoto.com

where the bed and rear storage used to be. So to regain some space to carry gear and refreshments the rear two seats were replaced with Polaris Lock and Ride Storage Boxes.

The last piece of the build puzzle was to add a bit of color to the RZR and that task was left up to Chaparrals in-house art director who came up with a custom wrap that mimicked the AnnLynn logo in the rear side pillars of the cage with a large A screamin across the doors. The

graphic is a mix of dark gray and black with deep blue striping that almost looks purple. To play off that blue hue, the cage, wheels, and HCR suspension components were sent out to get covered in matching powerdercoat. When the sun hits everything just right the blue takes on a more purple toneits definitely an attention getter. Some may see this RZR and call it The Blurple People Eater, but we think Blew by U, is a much more fitting name for this turbo monster.

The Muzzys dual mufflers hiding behind the rear bumper look like venomous snakes ready to strike.

A pair of Polaris RZR Lock and Ride boxes were mounted in the rear passenger area for storage.

The AnnLynn cage has all the necessary mounts and tabs for lighting and accessories. Seen here are the quick release adapters for a pair of multi-color LED whips from 5150.

MAKIN MOVIES: SPORTS ACTION CAMERAS & ACCESSORIES

    Buyers Guide

T hey say a picture is worth a thousand words. If thats true then does that mean a video is priceless? That may just be the case with the evolution of mobile video devices becoming so compact, durable, and capable of delivering real time (or near real time) feeds with impeccable quality. A picture is great to stare at and admire, but an awesome video can pull you through the screen and make you feel like youre part of the action, especially when its shot from the point of view of a motorcycle helmet, the handlebars, or any of the myriad locations you can mount a sports action camera. Speaking of action, the action sports scene has been at the forefront of creating some of the most captivating videos. While GoPro may be the leader of this segment, over the past several years other companies like Drift and WASPcam have joined the game offering consumers an assortment of helmet cameras for videoing all their exploits. Simple in design and easy to use, these action cameras make it nearly impossible to take a bad video or pictureeven when mounted on a motorcycle helmet. To help ensure you get the best hands free videos from your helmet there are a ton of accessories ranging from helmet camera mounts, lenses, remotes, and microphones.

Super lightweight with a fixed lens, the Hero cameras capture hi-def video and photos that can make the most inexperienced videographer/photographer look like a pro. Since selling its first camera system in 2004, GoPro has continually evolved with its most advanced iterations being the HERO4 Silver and Black. Truly setting the bar for first person/action camera video the Silver and Black HERO4 cameras deliver incredible image quality, fast frame rates and highly rugged durability. These two new cameras share similar great features such as 12MP burst photos at 30 frames per second, new night photo and night lapse modes, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth so you can connect to the GoPro App or Smart Remote, a powerful new audio system that records clean, high-quality sound, and much more. Both cameras offer Protune which expands the cameras capabilities by allowing customizable settings for color, ISO limit, white balance, sharpness and exposure. Adjusting and dialing in the new GoPro cameras has gotten much easier as well with intuitive and easy to navigate menus and a new dedicated button that allows you to quickly access and adjust camera settings.

    Go Like a Pro

    GroPro Hero4 Black Edition Camera

For those who demand the absolute best, pro-quality video and images capture capabilities theres the HERO4 Black ($499.99, part# 342-4100). This is the more expensive of the two but also offers the highest video quality with 4k Ultra HD. This is the first camera if its kind to offer such amazing quality, were talking Hollywood quality

video. Slow motion video playback is all the rage these days and unless your camera is up to the job with a high frame rate, then your slo-mo playback may look a little choppy. With the HERO4 Black you get a highly advanced processor that can capture 240 frames per second ensuring super smooth scenes with great detail.

    Welcome to the Dark Side

    GroPro Hero4 Silver Edition Camera

While you dont get the same superior video/photo specs that the HERO4 Black offers, what you do get with the HERO4 Silver ($399.99, part# 342-4101) is the convenience and simplicity of a built-in touch display on the back of the camera. The screen alone, which lets you control the camera, frame up your

scene, and playback your footage simply by tapping and swiping is reason enough for many people to opt for the Silver edition. The Silver is no slouch capturing super sharp 1080p60 video, incredibly smooth 720p120 and 960p100 hig-res, slow-motion video, and 12MP photos at a 30 frames per second.

    Silver Lining

Its nice to incorporate different angles in your videos and photos and thats exactly what you can get with the Chest Harness ($39.99, part# 342-4290) aka Chesty. With heavy-duty straps that go over your shoulders and wrap around your back, the camera is secured in a

lower position in the center of your chest. Providing a lower and broader view of your arms and hands this mount can help show the rugged terrain transferring through your frontend and into your upper body. Fully adjustable, this is a one-size fits most harness.

For GoPro owners looking to get the smoothest POV there are plenty of camera mounts allowing them to video from a variety of angles. If you truly want people to experience what you felt as you cleared that 50 foot gap on your dirt bike, then a GoPro Front Helmet Mount ($12.99, part# 342-4266) is the best choice. With a wide range of adjustment you can put the camera in a low profile position tight against the helmet so viewers feel like they are right there in the saddle as they watch it. With this mount you can also angle the camera forward and down so

you can get some self-portraits or capture the expression on your face as you case the landing on an unfamiliar track. You could even mount the camera to the back of your helmet for a truly dizzying experience. Want to take someone on a ride along with you but dont want to haul around the extra weight? Then you definitely want to pick up a Side Mount Camera Mount ($14.99, part# 342-4218) from GoPro. With one of these stuck to the side of your head its like someone watching over your shoulder without the screaming and yelling.

    GoPro Hero Handlebar Mount Kit

While the GoPro is easy to use, once the camera is mounted to your helmet and your helmet is on your head it can be a little difficult to get at all the controls and know exactly what setting youre on. The GoPro app is great and makes controlling the camera via your phone easy to do, however many people dont want to have their pricey smart phone mounted to their handlebars.

To help solve that problem theres the GoPro Wi-Fi remote ($79.99, part# 342-4112). Much cheaper than replacing a broken phone, with this little gadget you can switch from video to photo and manipulate all your cameras settings all without having to remove your helmet or fiddle around with your hand on top of your head like a monkey foraging for his next snack.

    Its Like Magic

To get some footage from your motorcycles perspective youre going to want to get a GoPro Handlebar Mount ($19.99, part# 342-4291). Made of durable polycarbonate with stainless steel fasteners, the handlebar mount will allow you to secure the camera to any piece of round tubing on your motorcycle from 0.75- to 1.4-inches in diameter. This mount will cover pretty much all stock handlebars sizes (dirt bikes, cruisers, tourers etc.) as well as some

frame tubes, swingarms, and even frontends. If you own a UTV then a GoPro Roll Bar Mount Kit ($29.99, part# 342-4295) is what youll need. The Roll Bar Mount can secure to any tubing ranging in size from 1.25 to 2.5, making it perfect for securing to the Polaris RZR, Artic Cat Wildcat, Can-Am Maverick, and most aftermarket roll bars. You can even fit the mount onto most front and rear bumpers to get some of that in-your-face mud bogging action.

Not everyone is on the GoPro train and thats okay. Like they say different strokes for different folks, right? Another action sports camera option is the Drift series of cameras. While Drift may not have the same name recognition as its competitor, the company has been widely praised for its feature-rich cameras that shoot exceptional photos and video. The two most popular cameras from Drift are the Ghost-S and Stealth 2.

The Ghost-S ($399.99) is an all in one shooter that is packed with a leading-edge processor, Sony CMOS sensor, and 7-element aspherical lens technology. Capable of shooting 1080p at 60fps, and 12meg stills, users will greatly appreciate the ability to capture high quality still images while shooting video at the same time. With its powerful, long-lasting battery you can shoot up to 3-1/2 hours of video. Incorporated into the side of the camera is a

2 LCD screen featuring scratch-resistant, Corning Gorilla Glass that allows you to access to a wide variety of user-adjustable settings. The front of the camera has a 300-degree continuously rotatable lens that allows you to mount the camera in all conceivable positions and yet still capture a straight image. One of the stand out characteristics of the Drift is its completely waterproof to 3 meters (9) without the need of an extra housing.

    Spooky Shooter

    Drift HD Ghost Camera

Drifts smallest and lightest camera to date, the Stealth 2 ($249.00) is super compact measuring in at 3.15 x 1.65 x 1.06 and weighs in at only 3.42 ounces. This mini shooter captures 1080p at 30 fps with its Aptina CMOS sensor producing crystal clear high definition footage. Even though its small in size, the Stealth 2 can still shoot for long periods, offering up to 3 hours of recording time. Similar to its big

brother, the Stealth 2 has a rotatable lens that makes it easy to get the perfect shot. A 1.3 Mono Graphic Backlit LCD allows you to easily manipulate the settings on the camera at the touch of a button and recording is made easy by a color-coded screen showing you which camera mode you are currently using. To make the Stealth 2 even easier to use, it is fully compatible with the Drift 2-Way Remote Control.

If youre going to be spending the day at the moto track the Drift Time Lapse Camera Mount ($25.02, part# 690-201-1247) can help you get some really cool time lapse shots. The Time lapse mount has a 1/4 screw to secure the camera to and has an attachment point on the underside to secure the mount to a tripod. The Time Lapse Mount is

designed to spin 360 degrees in a 60 minute period allowing the camera to capture images as it rotates, producing some pretty awesome panoramic footage. A nice feature about the rotating mount is that it has marks on it indicating the amount of degrees it will rotate and how long the rotation will take.

While the Drift Ghost-S has a built-in, onboard, noise-reducing microphone that records pretty decent audio, sometimes in really intense weather or riding situations you can pick up a lot of wind noise. Or if you want to provide clean and extremely clear commentary to go along with your videos as you ride then you

should consider picking up the Drift HD External Mic Clip ($22.28, part# 690-201-1217). Featuring a 3.5mm jack that plugs into the camera, the other end has a mic with a foam wind blocker. The attached alligator clip allows you to secure the mic to your shirt collar or inside your helmet.

Film. Edit. Share. These are the three words WASPcam uses to sum up its sports action cameras. The 9900 ($229.95, part# 4402-0427) and 9901 ($199.95) WASPcams offer the selection between 1080p30, 960p30 or 720p60 HD quality video and both snap 5MP images. All three video modes are available in Ultra Wide and Wide Field of View (FOV) so you can frame up the perfect shot. Both feature photo burst, time-lapse, sequences, and still image functions and come with anti-fog inserts, lens covers, and vented waterproof casing back doors. Both cameras can sync up with your Android or iOS device to provide live viewing and the ability to make edits so that you can quickly

    Get Stung!

upload your content to the internet. Both cameras can be operated via the WASPcam wrist remote control; you can purchase the remote control separately and pair it with the 9901 or get the camera and remote control together with the 9900 kit.

As you can see, weve come a long way from strapping a bulky home video camera on your head in hopes of capturing the thrills of the road, track, or trials to share with family and friends. Nowadays not only are the cameras much smaller, lighter, and shoot amazing videos, but they do it hands free from the safety of your helmet. Now you can truly say, look ma, no hands!

A LEG TO STAND ONMOTO STANDSDoing your own service, maintenance, and performance upgrades on your dirt bike can be a great form of relaxation. Not only will it take your mind off of things that might be bothering you but it also helps you become more knowledgeable about whats going on with your ride and aware of other issues that may need to be addressed. Whether prepping for your next track day, swapping handlebars, or replacing a bad gasket, setting your dirt bike up on a moto stand will make the task(s) at hand much safer as you push, pull, twist, and torque on various components. A stand can also make changing your oil, lubing your chain, or swapping out a rear tire much easier as youll have better access to tight spaces, or will be able to remove parts like axles, brake calipers, and wheels with ease.

Matrix Concepts is widely known for its quality and stylish moto stands and its A2 Aluminum Stand ($119.95, part# 126-A2-105) is no exception. Constructed of lightweight, high strength 1.25 6063 aircraft quality tubing, this stand will securely support your bike. The 11 x 11

platform and anti-rock design offers a solid base to keep your bike stable as you work. After repetitive use and abuse you can get this stand looking like new by replacing the rubber top pad. The Matrix Concepts A2 stand is available in a rainbow of colors to match your bike or your mood.

Pack N PlayFor those that have limited storage space or want quick and easy portability, a folding stand can come in pretty handy. MSRs Racing Folding Stand II ($94.95, part# 3501.1300.14) is about as compact as it gets when it comes to folding stands. Made of aircraft grade aluminum, when in use the stand has a height of 17

then when its time to go or store in the corner of the garage the stand slims down like a supermodel folding nearly flat to a mere 4 thick. Another nice thing about this stand is that it has round surface plates on the legs which help give it a more stable foot print in soft surfaces.

Sometimes you dont need to do major repairs or service to your bike but just want a way to support it in between motos. Sure, you could lean your bike up against a big rock or your tailgate, or make your kid brother stand there and hold it for you but a triangle stand is a much easier and safer solution. The Excel

Pro Series Triangle Stand ($18.44, part# 360-1181) is about as simple as it gets when it comes to supporting your bike. Inexpensive and to the point, this triangle stand has a welded tip that will fit into the rear axle of pretty much any and every dirt bike, making it highly versatile.

    The Old Triangle

Many, many years ago in a garage far, far away (or maybe it was your next door neighbor, were not sure) some crusty dirt bike rider figured out that an old milk crate with a couple blocks of wood stacked on top was the perfect solution to shove under the center of his bike to get the wheels off the ground for some routine maintenance. Coming full circle we end back up in the old timers garage with the milk crate. However, instead

of adding blocks of wood to get the bike up in the air, the Bike Crate from MSRHP ($24.95, part# 334-1035) is quite a bit taller than a milk crate so all you do is lift the bike onto the crate and youre good to go. The great thing about this stand and something that old timer probably figured out as well is when you arent using the crate as a stand you can use it to carry things like your tools, gear, or oil.

    Milk Man

When is a moto stand more than a moto stand? When it also presents itself as a tool tray. Made of injection molded components the Cycra Moto Stand ($79.95, part# 3501.1900.3) has several tool/parts trays incorporated into it so you can keep track of the essentials when working on your bike. Two smaller trays at the sides of the platform are perfect for nuts and bolts whereas the larger tray mounted between the legs helps

you monitor hand tools so they dont disappear into oblivion. Convenient carrying handles incorporated into the legs make it easy to carry the stand from the truck to the track when you have all your other gear to deal with as well. The Cycra Moto stand is available in black, red, blue, yellow, green, and orange.

    Double Duty

For those that have a bad back or are tired of lifting their bike onto a fixed height stand, a lift stand can be a life saver. Simply place a lift stand like the Ocelot Pro Lift II ($84.95, part# 124-1012) under your engine case, pump the foot pedal a couple times and voila the stand does all

the lifting for you. This makes getting your bike up in the air a quick and easy task without throwing your back out. Made of heavy duty aluminum the stand provides a solid base to support your motorcycle while the rubber pad on the platform keeps your bike from sliding around.

  • T his past fall, Star Motorcycles held a contest called Battle of the Bolts, in which Star Motorcycle dealers had the opportunity customize a stock Bolt or Bolt R-spec for a chance to win big prizes. The rules were pretty straight forward, basically you had to use at least $750 worth of Star parts and accessories, you had to use the stock sheetmetal and suspension (although it could be modified), and you couldnt cut or modify the frame.

We decided to throw our hat in the ring and use one of our floor model R-Specs as the entry. Our plan was to create our Bolt Build along the lines of the club style. While we arent part of any outlaw clubsa few

employees are members of the Chaparral Riders Club (not quite outlaws other than exceeding the speed limit every now and then)we do like and appreciate this type of bike and felt that the R-Spec would fit this style perfectly. Conveniently, many of the Star Bolt parts and accessories made this an easy process.

Lean, mean, and sinister, the club style motorcycle is all about getting where you need to be, or away from where you were, as quickly and stealthily as possible. The bikes need to be agile, nimble, and able to split lanes and take names when things get heated. Totally utilitarian, this style is all about function and performance. From the mini fairing and tall handlebars to the high-flow air cleaner and

CHAPARRAL MOTORSPORTS BATTLE OF THE BOLTS BUILD

  • two-into-one exhaust, every part has a purpose. Even the all-black or mostly black color scheme serves a purposeto look like a dark blur as it speeds by and to blend in with all the other black motorcycles on the road so that the bike/rider are harder to single out or identify.

Of course we wanted to follow in line with the typical club bike and beef up the motor by increasing the displacement on our Bolt but that brought up concerns of potential warranty issues down the line (we still planned on selling the bike off our sales floor when we were done customizing it), so we considered some lighter performance upgrades for the engine instead.

Working to meet the requirement that a minimum of $750 worth of Star Motorcycle accessories be included in the build, our first order of business was to add some additional seating. Installing two-up seating isnt exactly the first thing you might expect someone to do on a club bike, but a sissybar and passenger seat serve more purpose than just a place for someone else to sit. These two items can come in very handy when going on a quick weekend run, providing a spot to strap a small travel bag and sleeping bag. Plus, you never know when youll come across a cute hitchhiker along the roadside.

Youll find ape hangers are commonly used on bobber and chopper style custom bikes but when we saw the Mini Apes on the ChapMoto.com website we really liked the modern take on the classic ape hanger handlebar and thought theyd look great on our Stepson of Anarchy bike. With a very mild rise the Mini Apes are accentuated by an aggressive design that trades sweeping round bends at the top for hard angles and slash cuts. We felt these bars would look great peeking out from behind the mini faring. With about 4 inches of rise, the new handlebars required longer brake, clutch, and throttle cables so we ordered the Star Accessories Stainless Braided Steel units.

Of course we had to install the Star Accessories Mini Fairingno club style bike would be complete without one. A mix of style and functionality, the mini fairing definitely gave the bike a heavy dose of attitude. The black fairing body helped break up all the matte grey paint on the bike and we came up with an idea to address the clear windscreen.

Up front we also added a bit of old school MX style with

Star Accessories Fork Gaiters. The decision to install the fork gaiters was a combination of form and function as the gaiters helped cover up the shiny areas of the lower fork legs between the sliders and the lower triple clamps with black rubber. They also protect those areas from rocks and flying debris that could cause pitting, nicks, and dust/debris from slipping down in the lower legs and possibly damaging the fork seals.

Next, we removed the rear fender and cleaned up the back a little bit by installing the Fender Eliminator for the Star Bolt. The fender eliminator pulled the turn signals off the fender side rails and placed them at the license mount for a cleaner look.

We got our hands on one of Vance & Hines VO2 Naked Intake kits and Competition Series Muffler, and felt they were a perfect fit for the look and performance of our club style Bolt. The billet, dual venturi intake of the VO2

All black and all business up front.

The Star Mini Apes add some unique style as they poke out from behind the fairing.

Double up or strap on a travel bag, this R-Spec is ready for whatever.

kit looks good on its own and if we werent worried about diminished performance and junk getting sucked into the motor and damaging the internals we would have run it with no filter. However, the blue hi-flow filter element that came with the kit is cool too and with no cover to hide the filter (hence the Naked Kit) it still gave it a raw, industrial look.

Covered in a high-temp black coating, the Vance & Hines Competition Series muffler had a similar finish as the stock head pipes. Shorter and lighter, the Comp Series Muffler is definitely a more performance oriented compared to stock. The muffler slipped right into position and the matte gray inset tip matched up nicely with the stock heat shields. Meaner looking? For Sure. Better

sounding? Absolutely! Better performance? Yup. According to V&H theyve seen gains of up to 10hp/10ft-lb of torque with this muffler, the VO2 intake, and their FuelPak.

Our Stepson of Anarchy project needed a little bit more style and protection, so we added some Storm hand guards from Bark Busters. Hand guards are commonly found on dirt bikes, dual sports, and the big adventure bikes, but weve been seeing more and more people incorporating hand guards into their club style bikes and they often match up pretty well with a mini faring. For those of us in California where we can split lanes, hand guards offer some added protection for your hands when you accidentally clip someones side mirror.

When it came to paint we thought about a couple different

The raw look of the naked air filter kit looks great against the motor and heat shields.

paint schemes but ended up sticking with the stock paint since it already suited the style of bike we were going for, plus it would help keep the overall cost of bike down. While the gloss black fairing looked nice, we felt the clear wind screen kind of threw it off a bit. Then when we added the hand guards to the mix they were a slightly different color/finish of black than the fairing. With a mix of gloss black and matte black components we decided to help it all blend together a little better with a couple coats of Plasti Dip.

Plasti Dip is basically a rubberized paint in a spray can. When applied and dried its similar to the rubberized coating youll find on the end of some pliers. Available in a wide range of colors, you can use it on nearly any type of surface and best of all when you get tired of it or you want to change colors, the stuff simply peels offoften times it can be pulled off in one single piece. We sprayed

the fairing, windscreen, and hand guards all in Matte Black Plasti Dip so that they would match up better with the other matte colored components like the exhaust and pin striping. We still had quite a bit of paint left over (we only used 1-1/4 cans) so we decided to spray the turn signal lenses as well for a smoked look. With two very light coats we nearly blacked out the turn signal lenses, yet when they are turned on they still light up pretty bright and are easily visible.

All the mods we made to this bike were pretty straight forward and easy to do with basic hand toolsanyone could do this in their garage. While our Stepson of Anarchy bike didnt win the competition, we were pretty happy with how it turned out and felt it was a good representation of the style we were going for. Best of all, the bike didnt last very long on our sales floor. Visit ChapMoto.com for more info on these parts and accessories.

Plasti Dip on the turn signal lenses help them blend in with the rest of the blacked out components.

Even behind the Plasti Dip coating the turn signals can easily be seen when they are on.

Vance & Hines Comp Series Muffler is all bark and all bite.

DONT SWEAT THE WETMOTORCYCLE RAIN GEAR & ACCESSORIESRain-schmrain! If youre a die-hard motorcycle rider you dont let a little bit (or a lot) of the wet stuff deter you from getting your two-wheel fix. You dont have to be a tough biker type to slog through an unexpected delugebut it sure does help if you have the right motorcycle gear to start with. Below we listed a few items that can help keep you smiling when Mother Nature decides to rain on your parade.

Speeding down the highway in an open face helmet or half helmet at 70mph in pelting rain is basically the equivalent to using your face as a pin cushionnot fun! Besides providing overall face and head protection in the event of an impact a full face motorcycle helmet is your best defense against Mother Natures furious offence. For decades Shoei has been one of the top names in motorcycle helmets, and for good reason, the company spends a lot of time and money designing and testing to ensure a comfortable, safe, and reliable helmet. Shoeis Qwest Full Face Helmet ($387.99, part# 375-0115-0107-06) is a great all-year helmet as it provides plenty of venting in the warmer summer months and has superior sealing around the face shield to help block out wind and rain. In fact, with Shoeis Quick Release Self Adjusting

(QRSA) base plate system swapping between a clear shield or tinted face shield is a quick, easy, and tool-less task. As the shield is pulled to the closed position the spring-loaded base plates evenly suck the shield in tight against the window beading to create a wind and waterproof seal. In addition, by blocking wind noise your ears wont be ringing or muffled once off the bike. Other benefits of the Qwest helmet include five shell sizes to choose from for a perfect fit on just about any head size or shape, a highly durable and lightweight shell construction consisting of fiberglass and organic fibers that help distribute the stresses of impact, and a five year manufacturers warranty from purchase date or seven year manufacturers warranty from helmet manufacture date, whichever comes first.

    Skirt the Issue

    Keep it Simple

    Frogg Toggs Hogg Togg Rainsuit

For those that like to just keep a simple set of rain gear handy in case of a weather emergency, the Frogg Toggs Hogg Togg Rainsuit ($89.95, part# 350-6157) is what you need. Easy to compress and roll up, this jacket and pant combo can be shoved into the bottom of a backpack or tucked away in a saddlebag without disrupting the weight and balance of the bike or taking up valuable storage space. When the skies unleash a fury of rain you can simply slip the pants and jacket over your existing riding gear. Extremely lightweight this jacket and pant set is an excellent choice

for those tropical storms because aside from being waterproof its also breathable and wont turn into a sauna. A nice safety feature is the Frogg Eyzz reflective piping on the pants and jacket so others on the road can see you better at night. The active cut provides a comfortable fit while elastic stirrups at the leg cuffs keep the pants from riding up in the wind. Offered in black or a combination black/orange, black/yellow, black/lime and available in size S-3XL this motorcycle rain gear will appeal to many riders.

    Keep Your Head Up

    Schampa Helmet Skirt

Most of the time when you combine the words men and skirts in the same sentence people tend to get a little up tight, but in this instance the situation is quite different. The Schampa Helmet Skirt ($24.95, part# 350-1196) is like a piece of heat shrink tube for your helmet/neck, just a lot less constricting. Actually the helmet skirt isnt constricting at all, but it does an excellent job of making a protective seal around your neck. Basically this skirt attaches to your helmet via a Velcro strip that you stick

to the bottom of your helmet. Then you simply attach the skirt and it will cover the exposed area between the bottom of the helmet and the top of your jacket. With the helmet skirt in place you dont have to worry about water dripping off your helmet or jacket collar and into your chest area. Not only will it block the rain but it will protect you from wind chill and works better than sunscreen at keeping your neck area from getting sun burned.

    Nice Suit

    Firstgear Thermo One-Piece Suit

Remember when you were a kid and you couldnt wait to jump into your favorite onesie pajamas before bedtime? Think of the Firstgear Thermo One-Piece Suit ($199.95, part# 350-5425) as an adult version of the onesieminus the butt flap and slippery feet. When it comes to snow, rain, heavy wind, or grimy road conditions this one-piece riding suit is like a layer of armor (just way more comfortable and flexible) that will keep you looking fresh as a daisy once you peel it off at the end or your motorcycle ride. Comprised of 100 perfect waterproof 210- denier Hypertex exterior and full storm flap closures over the zippers, pockets, and cuffs the Thermo suit does an

excellent job of blocking out the rain. And when the temps start to dip, the 120-gram polyester insulation helps this one-piece riding suit live up to its Thermo name. With cargo storage chest and thigh pockets youll have easy access to all your important items. The elastic ankle bands keep wind and water from slipping up your legs while the Velcro waist adjustment allows for comfort and easy flexibility. Available in a mix of gunmetal and black, the best thing about this one-piece motorcycle suit is that it has a heavy-duty main zipper that runs from the high neck collar to the crotch so you dont have to be a yoga master to slip into it.

    Get a Grip

    Icon Patrol Waterproof Glove

Wet, soggy hands are miserable on a long motorcycle ride; and if its a really cold rain the addition of wind chill can really exacerbate the suffering. A good set of waterproof motorcycle gloves like the Icon Patrol Waterproof Glove ($75.00, part# 038-3310-0267) will keep your digits happy even in a torrential downpour. This glove is a great choice for cold and wet riding conditions because the gauntlet cuff and adjustable wrist strap will give you extra protection from rain and wind. The waterproof

textile exterior shell on the top is highly durable and tough against abrasion while the leather goat skin palm area makes it easy to grip handlebars and manipulate controls. Combat ready, the reinforced knuckle armor on these motorcycle gloves will help keep your bones intact and the clear rubber windshield wiper attached to the side of the index finger on the clutch hand allows you to clear away water drops from your helmet face shield, motorcycle goggles, and even glasses.

    Boot Booties

    Frogg Leggs Boot Covers

If your waterproof motorcycle boots arent doing their job then something like these Frogg Leggs Boot Covers ($74.95, part# 350-6152) from Frogg Toggs are a simple way to fix that problem. Made from durable, waterproof 600 denier rubberized nylon, you can easily slip these cover over your motorcycle boots and with their 17 high leggings you could basically roll or wade your way through a small creek or flooded street and not have to worry about getting your feet soaked. A draw cord at the top of the calf area helps block water while adjustable ankle and arch straps ensure the boot covers

stay tight and secure. Youll be sure to maintain solid footing on your motorcycle pegs and on the ground with the high-traction rubber sole. And with the boot covers being so easy to fold up and store theyll fit perfectly in your saddlebag with your Tour Master Rain Suit.

Riding a motorcycle should be a very fun and relaxing experience; and one you shouldnt let get ruined by something like a little rain. With the proper riding gear and motorcycle accessories you can motor through a light drizzle or barrage of rain without ending up looking like a drowned rat at the end of your ride.

    Do It All

    Alpinestars Gunner Waterproof Textile Jacket

If youre looking for a jacket that will do a little bit of everything and cover you for year-round riding then look no further than Alpinestars Gunner Waterproof Textile Jacket ($269.95, part# 020-2820-3275). The Gunner features an outer shell construction that has an advanced and highly durable 600D fabric with PU (Polyurethane) coating and a water repellent surface treatment that makes it 100-percent waterproof. It also has a breathable inner lining to ensure insulation and riding comfort. With the added convenience of a removable thermal liner, this jacket is highly versatile and comfortable in varying weather conditions.

The Gunner is loaded with safety and protection enhancements such as chest and back protector compartments with PE (Polyethylene) comfort padding, as well as an extended and reinforced lower back. You get the utmost in comfort with its pre-curved sleeves, neoprene comfort edge around the collar, and adjustable Velcro waist. When the temps heat up the liner can be removed and then you can unzip the two front air intake vents and rear air exhaust vent to provide flow through air conditioning. This jacket is available in three colorways black: black/red/white, and grey/black/fluorescent yellow in sizes SM-4XL.

    Store It

Tour Master Select 14L Magnetic Mount Tank Bag

A tank bag allows you to free up your pockets and safely store your cell phone, wallet, coins, and any other miscellaneous items. The Tour Master Select 14L Magnetic Tank Bag ($79.99, part# 03-8215-1305-05) has a 600 denier Carbolex outer shell construction that is waterproof, breathable, and abrasion resistant. A large main compartment provides plenty of room to carry bulky items,

while side pockets help you keep smaller things organized. The top of the bag features a removable, clear window map pocket and if you happen to get into a torrential down pour the bag has a rain cover to provide extra protection from the elements. Broad wings with heavy duty magnets incorporated into them help keep the bag secure when cruising at speed.

    Personal Profile

ANDY ANAYAGET TO KNOW A CHAP MOTO EMPLOYEE:

W hile most of the other three-year-olds were busy playing make-believe with their miniature toy motorcycles, Andy Anaya was learning how to ride the real deal; twisting the throttle on a Suzuki JR50 around the open riding areas of the iconic Saddleback MX Park. It was starting out at an early age that helped Andy become so talented when it came to anything with two wheels.

Andy started his motocross racing career at the age of 7 ripping around Perris Raceway on a CR60 and progressed from there stepping up to larger, more powerful dirt bikes as his skills improved. Around the age of 14 his interest in two-wheels shifted from horsepower to pedal power when his parents purchased the Riverside Raceway Bicycle Track. Andy spent several years spinning his feet racing in the ABA before he jumped back onto a dirt bike and picked up right where he left off as a youngstershredding motocross tracks. At the age of 19 he turned pro racing 125s in the Supercross Series and 250s in Nationals. In the mid-late 90s he spent the majority of his time on the west coast circuits where he banged bars with the likes of Jeff Emig, Kevin Windham, and Jeremy McGrath. When the 4-strokes started gaining momentum Andy found there was more money to be won and began hitting the east coast circuit spending his summers racing in the Eastern 4-Stroke Nationals. Throughout his racing career Andy achieved a slew of accolades including several podium finishes and a multitude of top five and top ten finishes.

For those that are into mini moto, you may recognize Andy from his incredible 100-foot tabletop jump at the Lake Elsinore track back in 04/05. Riding a highly modded 50 that had been bumped up to 118cc and outfitted with a 6-speed, it took Andy several attempts but after pinning it in 5th gear he finally cleared the flat and landed smoothly, well into the backside transition. Of course he had to hit it several more times after that and it was one of those jumps that landed him on the cover of Mini Moto Magazine.

Andy has been working at Chaparral Motorsports for the past eight years. And as one of our vehicle sales managers you can often find him behind a computer helping our sales staff procure the best deals for our customers. While he doesnt spend nearly as much time racing as he used to, Andy still hits the MX track one or two times a week mixing in a bit of competitive racing with friendly free riding. Youll often find him on his 2014 Suzuki RMZ450 jamming through the whoops at tracks like Milestone, Glen Helen, Competitive Edge or Racetown 395. With his extensive racing background, Andy knows what performance mods work best for him, so hes spent a considerable amount of time dialing in his RMZ with components like a titanium Yoshimura RS-4 Dual Outlet Exhaust with carbon fiber end caps, GPR Stabilizer and top clamp, Pro Taper handlebars, and his suspension finely tuned by his friend over at Showa.

When hes not at the track or Chaparral, Andy is usually with his family camping and riding trails. His three girls take turns darting around the campsites on a 50 with the youngest putting around with the assistance of training wheels. While he enjoys riding his dirt bike on the trails with his family, Andy recently bought a Can-Am Maverick Max which allows them all to pile in and enjoy the excitement of off-roading together. Andy says his dream is to own a KTM 500EXC so that he can just ride out of his back yard and hit the hills and trails of Oak Hills or split his time between off-roading and surface streets on his commute into work.

    This & That

Since its introduction at the turn of the century, the Hayabusa has been praised for its performance and more importantlyits title of worlds fastest production bike. A rocket on two wheels, the Hayabusa immediately raised heads and peeled back eyelids with its top speed hovering around the 190mph mark. The Hayabusa not only pegged the speedometer of motorcycle fans, it was also the tipping point that brought about the gentlemans agreement amongst the big European and Japanese motorcycle manufacturers to limit the top speed of their production bikes to 186mph.

The Hayabusa is more than just a missile waiting for its next mission. Completely unique, with its radical body lines and smooth flowing curves, the machine looks as though it was carved from the wind. In 2014 Suzuki outfitted the Hayabusa with Brembo Monobloc high-performance calipers and an Antilock Brake System to help harness the immense power produced by the 1340cc, in-line 4-cylinder, fuel-injected engine. The Hyabusas sensational power, speed, smooth ride, and overwhelming presence continue to fascinate owners and onlookers alike.
