From the Head Teacher - Ms. Sue Hill

Dear Parents, I hope you’ve all had a healthy week. At TX, we have been learning how to live a healthy lifestyle. On Tuesday morning, Ms Charlie held a coffee morning for parents and Year 6 children. The presentation contained lots of useful information about being healthy: socially, physically and psychologically. Reminders were given about having enough sleep so that your body can recuperate; always eating breakfast; making good choices of carbohydrates (brown rice and whole wheat pasta rather than cakes and crisps) and eating lots of fruit and vegetables. Having aerobic exercise and taking up fun sports are also important to keep us feeling ready to face the day ahead and optimise learning.

On Wednesday, all children from F3 to Year 6 travelled to AP1 for our annual TX Sports Day. Lots of fun

was had as the children took part in activities such as javelin, various track events and long jump. Well

done to everyone for taking part with such good sportsmanship and a positive attitude. I saw a great deal

of perseverance as children really tried their best to win points for their team. Congratulations to Ms

Charlie and Mr Chau for organising such a wonderful, action-packed day!

All at the TX campus have taken part in Healthy Living Week this week. The students had the opportunity to

take part in a range of activities, ranging from breakfast club to aerobics. Students also participated in class

activities that have helped them to understand the importance of health, exercise and a balanced diet.

Ms Charlotte

Healthy living week

In Science, Year 3 children have been learning about the importance of having a healthy, well balanced diet. We have researched all of the food groups and found out what our bodies need each type of food for. Some of us were shocked to find out that even fats and sugars are good for us in small amounts. Did you know that fats are needed by the body for making new cells, keeping our internal organs safe and storing energy? The children have been set the challenge of keeping a food diary at home. Once the diaries are complete, we are going

to take a closer look at them, considering whether each of our diets has the right amount of carbohydrates, proteins, fruits and vegetables, dairy products and fats and sugars. We’ll then be thinking about how our diets can be improved, so keep a look out for a much stronger, healthier Year 3 over the next few months! Ms Jess

Toothbrush Collection

Tet Collection

A great big thank you to everybody who has contributed

to the Tet collection. This will be distributed next week to

some of the community partners who participate in the

TX clubs or year group projects: TX Centre, PdV, Ky

Quang pagoda and Binh An.

The toothbrush collection continues for one more week, so you still have time to donate to that collection. These will then be delivered to Kom Tum orphanages on 7th February. Ms Heather

Green Certificate, January 2015

The Eco-Warriors monitored all classrooms several times, even though it was a short month after the holidays. They found that 1X had best remembered how to be green, having scrap paper in the printer and using their recycling bin properly. Well done 1X. Who will be awarded the prestigious Green Certificate next month?

Reduce, reuse, recycle too,

The Eco-Teams are watching YOU!

Ms Clover from “EAST” came in and did a presentation for our Year 5 children here at TX to help them

discover and develop an understanding of Animal related issues as part of their community project.

The Endangered Asian Species Trust is a partner charity with Monkey World in the UK. They are based

on Dau Tien Island in Cat Tien National Park approximately 4 hours drive north of HCMC.

Ms Clover gave an enlightening presentation to the children, talking about the illegal pet trade and the

plight of the monkeys and apes here in southern Vietnam. Explaining how numbers of wild primates are

getting fewer and fewer and how EAST are focused on the rescue, rehabilitation and release of

endangered species back into the wild. Also advising how important it is to educate everyone to teach

them that these wonderful intelligent creatures are wild animals that are happy swinging in the trees and

not domesticated pets to be kept in cages.

An interesting fact that Ms Clover told the children was how to tell the difference between a Monkey and

an Ape, would you know the difference?

The easiest and quickest way to tell them apart is that Apes don’t have tails. Mr Kevin Halpin Community Service Officer

EAST visits TX

Hello! 안녕하세요!

It’s been really busy week with Healthy Living and Sports Day, but we’ve all been busy learning some Korean words. In assembly this Friday the House Captains and some teachers had the opportunity to show their knowledge of Korean words and, as it was Healthy Living Week, they also had to perform some physical challenges. The winners were Hanoi!

We would also like to say a big thank you to our Korean students, who took the lead in introducing their language to us. Don’t forget that Korean is our Language in Focus for the

whole term, so keep practising!

On Tuesday we had special guests come to visit some of our EYFS children. We had a

small presentation telling us all about “Ricky” the dog we have adopted, he couldn’t visit

himself as he’s still very nervous after being rescued. For the children that wanted to

meet the other dogs, they were showed how to let the dogs sniff them before gently

stroking the dogs. I don’t know who behaved best, the children or the dogs? I think

everyone was awesome.

A cheque was then presented and everyone at “ARC” wanted to say a big thank you to all the parents involved in the bake sale that raised the funds for our community partner.

All proceeds will go towards adopting “Ricky” who was rescued from an animal hoarder who had 40 dogs, 30 cats and 2 caged monkeys all kept in terrible conditions, he will now be well looked after until someone can be found to give him his forever home. Future dates have been set for “ARC” volunteers, a Veterinarian and of course more of our canine friends to visit all of the TX EYFS classes to teach them compassion towards animals and help create a better future for the progress of animal welfare.
