Thank you to all staff and their families for making this a possibility for our students. I cannot wait to see the faces of students and staff as they take the Leap of Faithfrom a platform or as they are flung through the sky on the giant swing. I am sure there will be lots of funny photos to share. Dont forget we have our Family Campout Night coming up soon. It will be quite a sight to see our school turn into a campground. Please register your interest by booking a camp site through the office. This event is alcohol and drug free. More information about this night can be found on our schools Facebook page. It will be a fun night and a great opportunity for our families to get to know each other. All funds will go towards building a GAGA pit. There is a lot of excitement for the Year 3-6 camp to the Briars next week. Thank you to all staff and their families for making this a possibility for our students. I cannot wait to see the faces of students and staff as they take the “Leap of Faith” from a platform or as they are flung through the sky on the giant swing. I am sure there will be lots of funny photos to share.

Don’t forget we have our Family Campout Night coming up soon. It will be quite a sight to see our school turn into a campground. It will be a fun night and a great opportunity for our families to get to know each other. All funds will go towards building a GAGA pit. Curriculum Excellence

Congratulations to staff and students for their work and results in reading comprehension. As you are aware reading strategies have been taught across the whole school. Each classroom displaying anchor charts defining the 9 reading strategies. This has translated into our school being identified as an influence school in a school’s 2018 performance report. We are currently working on our school’s goals for 2019. These goals will be in or our school’s annual implementation plan and our focus areas to drive school improvement will be in numeracy and oral language.

In the next couple of weeks, students will be undertaking assessment tasks for their final 2018 report. It is a busy term and teachers have begun writing their reports. We cannot wait to look at the growth that our students have made throughout the year.

Sustainability

Congratulations on a very successful “Green Day” The funds that were raised yesterday will go towards purchasing brightly colour coded recycling bins for every classroom. Kids Teaching Kids

Congratulations to Keisha, Janaya, Sam, Kaiden, Lachlan, Laila, Hinasae and Connor for their outstanding performance at the Kids teaching Kids conference. Thank you to all staff involved in this project and thank you to Geordie and Mrs Esler for supervising all students overnight on this great adventure. The photos on Facebook look great. The whole school is very proud of these students for being able to teach and present to large crowds of children and adults. Please read accounts of their experiences in this newsletter.

Uniform Term 4

Hopefully all students have located their Tyabb Railway Station hat as it has begun to warm up. All students are required to wear their hat throughout Term 4 and Term 1 during outside activities. Students will be required to play in a designated shaded area if they don’t have their prescribed Tyabb Railway Station hat. Many thanks for your support.

Have a lovely weekend

Can you believe it is Term 4 already? Someone commented recently about how tall our class had got

and it wasn’t till I was looking through some of our class photos to put in the newsletter that it really hit

me how much they have all grown….time flies by in the blink of an eye and soon the students of 1B will

have finished their second year of school! We still have lots to do this term though, including getting

ready for our Christmas concert. Practises are already underway and let’s just say, ‘all aboard everyone,

1B are going to ’cruise’ it in!’

Recycling fact:

The energy saved by recycling one plastic bottle will power your computer for 25

minutes.

Thank you for supporting our fundraiser during Environmental week, we raised a huge

amount totalling $377.00. We have made our target amount THANK YOU SO MUCH TO

EVERYONE.

We are going to be adding new bins to all of our class rooms plus getting a recycling skip for our whole school.

Without the support from our school community we would not be able to make a difference to all our futures.

Thank you for also supporting the Dolphin Research Institute. They are a

local charity on the Mornington Peninsula, and we wanted to share our

amazing school community by helping to support our dolphins, sea-life and

beautiful bays.

Thank you and remember to say NO to straws.

Check out the progress of our new classroom librarys! A big thank you to Mrs Rossi for organising this massive change to our classrooms. We also would like to say a big thank you to Josh, Christelle, Geordie,

Jarla and their student helpers for taking on the task of assembling all the shelving! We are so lucky to have such helpful people in our school community!

The Tyabb Railway Station PS Devilbend Ambassadors visited Devilbend Natural Features Reserve today (Friday 19th October) to study macro-invertebrates. They were shown how to take samples, identify the different species and how to sort them into ice cube trays for closer inspection by Monika, Melbourne Water's Macro-invertebrate expert. In all they found 12 different types of water invertebrates including mudeye (dragonfly larvae), water beetles, glass shrimp, baby yabbies and cased caddis larvae which is very sensitive to pollution. This showed the ambassadors that the water at Devilbend is very clean. The ambassadors had a great time collecting and sorting their macro-invertebrate samples. The Ambassadors are SUPER busy, attending Melbourne Water's Kids Teaching Kids Conference in Melbourne.

While there, they will be teaching other children how to use the Frog Census App, how to build a frog bog at home

and some fun facts about frogs in our Frogtastic Quiz.

School Hats

A Reminder all to Parents and Students that hats will need to be worn for all outdoor play as of the start of term 4. NO hat NO play.

Please ensure your child has a school approved hat. School hats must be broad rimmed to provide sufficient protection from UV rays. Please note that caps are not acceptable as they do not provide necessary protection from the sun and UV rays. Thank you for your cooperation.

On the 23 of October we went to… KTK (kids teaching kids). It took us 2-3 hours to get there by train and 3-4 hour to get

back. Once we got there we got a drink bottle and a t shirt. The first activity I did was one about rubbish in water then I did

penguins on Rubbish Island, it was really fun. Our presentation, the only one about frogs and I think they had a lot of fun

and plus it was the only one with a big show bag.

The tree activates our group did where: 1 frog census 2 frogtactic quiz 3 build a frog bog Lots of people liked the quiz. My favorite activity that I did was the penguins on Rubbish Island. By Lachlan

Kids Teaching Kids reports ...

On the 23th and the 24th we went to Melbourne waters kid teaching kids’ conference, it was an amazing experience it was awesome. There were a heap of presentations and lots of nice people. Aron Wood was an amazing host and I’m hoping I have the opportunity to go next year. I would like to also thank all the staff who made it possible. By Sam

Day 1. We met with Geordie and Sam at the front of the university then we went to our table after that we listened to two girls and a man talk about housekeeping rules and all the presentations that would be on today. Once we watched all the presentation all the school got a certificate for participating in KTK next we split of in to our groups. I was in the orange-bellied parrot the first group we went to was the Jurassic plastics were we learnt how to change our carbon foot, how to filter water and we played a board game about were one person was a plastic bottle. The other people in the team had to answer the questions so that the bottle could get closer to the end and then try to end up in the recycling. Then we went to what its like to be in a drought and how much water animals need, then a “interview” with some “farmers”. We then had lunch which was brownies, cookies, muffins and sandwiches. After that we had the gala dinner where I only ate bread rolls. Then we went back to our rooms and went to sleep.

Day 2. On day 2 we went to Collingwood farm were we did our presentation. We did Froggy facts. Keisha and I made some new friend called Jamie’s, Astin and Alyssa and then we had our presentation and I was really nervosa but I think we did really good .After that we had to read out our reflections Hannah and Laila and they had to speak in front of 52 schools then we had to walk back to the front of the farm were we got picked up by a bus where we were dropped of at YHA and then we walked to Melbourne station and then we toke three trains to get home and one bus.
