February newsletter 2020.pubschool year we are already thinking
about the next
school year! We will be accepting new registrations
for the 2020-2021 school year beginning in February.
If you are a resident of the Winnipeg School Division your child is
eligible to register for the
Nursery program. There are several forms that you
will need to fill out in the school office as well as
various documents you will need to provide, (child’s
Birth Certificate, Manitoba Health Card, Proof of
Residency- Mortgage/Lease agreement or Property
tax bill, and if the child was not born in Canada you
will need to provide their passport with the Landed
Immigrant papers). If you do not live in the
division, your child would still be welcome to attend
the Nursery program although a fee of $480.00 per
month would need to be paid.
If you are registering for Kindergarten to Grade Six,
you will need to follow the same registration
procedure and provide the same documents, and also any previous
report card from the student’s last
school. If you do not live in the division, but would
like to register your child for Kindergarten to Grade
Six, you are welcome to do so, but would need to fill
out a Non-Resident Form to complete the
registration.
Six at Tyndall Park School, they will receive a
registration form for Stanley Knowles School
sometime in the Spring. If you are interested having
your child a different school for Grade Seven, you
will have to go to that school directly and fill out their
registration forms.
If you have any questions regarding registration for
Tyndall Park School, please call the office at
204-633-0065.
Literacy Club
The students in Literacy Club have a love for reading and writing!
They come to school early twice a week to practice and build their
literacy skills. Every morning starts off with reading to self or
someone, a read aloud and then a different literacy activity. In
the month of January, we learned about different types of
literature through comics and created our own!
During ‘I Love to Read’ month we will be having a
Book Swap! It’s a great way for your children to
find a good book to read, to recycle books they’ve
finished, and to encourage reading for pleasure. If your child
would like to participate in the Book
Swap, they need to bring a used book, that is in good
condition, to their class from February 10th-19th.
Students will receive a ticket for each book that they
would like to trade in. Books can be picture books,
chapter books, fiction or non-fiction; up to a
maximum of 5 books will be accepted for each
student wishing to swap. The ticket will be used to
choose their book on February 21st, the day of the
Great Book Swap. We look forward to supporting
your child to develop a lifelong love of reading. If
you have any questions, please check out the poster in the office
or contact Ms. Allan, Literacy Support
teacher at the school.

Mrs. Smith, an EA at the school, shared with students a project she
has been working on to also help the efforts in Australia. Using
her talented crafting skills and through the group Canadian Animal
Rescue Guild, she made small, knit pouches that will be sent to
Australia to help baby joeys and baby koalas that have been
separated from their mothers due to the wildfires. Thanks for
sharing this project with the classrooms!
We have all heard about the Australia wildfires and how devastating
they have been to the people and wildlife that live there. Room 18
and Room 20 decided to help out by having a fundraiser and
donating
the money to the Red Cross. Students sold bookmarks, photo prints
and baked goods donated by staff, parents and students, on Tuesday,
January 28th during the lunch hour and after school with a
tremendous turnout! The amount donated to the Red Cross was an
astounding 1100.00! We would like to thank Tyndall Park School
staff, students, families, & Tyndall Park Playschool staff for
their support and donations. We would also like to thank Virgin
103.1 DJ Chrissy Troy for stopping by and checking out the sale and
spending some time with the grade 2’s. Congratulations to Rooms 18
& 20 for a job- well done!

ESD Committee News Tyndall Park Club Dates
Did you know that Tyndall Park School is part of the Crayola marker
recycling program? Students can bring in used markers, of any
brand, from home or from school and drop them off in room 9 where
they will be sent off for recycling. What a great way to help save
the planet by doing something so simple!
Wondering what to do with all those plastic bags! Tyndall Park
School has red drop off bins that are available for you to recycle
your bags. Just a reminder that bags need to be empty. This is part
of the ‘Bag Up’ initiative and plastic bags are picked up twice a
year. The bags get recycled into Frisbees or planters that we use
here at the school.
