TYPES OF LISTENING

Different situation require different types of listening relationship, gain appreciation for something, make

discrimination, or engage in critical equation.

While certain skills RBCs and necessary for all type of listening like receiving, attending, and understanding each

these type requires some special skills.

RELATIONSHIP LISTENING

It improves the relationship between people.

Emphasis is an understanding the other person.

Listening between teachers and students is the example of relationship listening.

Therapeutic listening is the special type of the relationship listening.

THERAPEUTIC LISTENING

In therapeutic listening, the listeners has

purpose of not only empathizing with the speakers but also to

use these deep connection in order

to help speaker understand, change or development in

some way.

THERAPEUTIC LISTENINGSound training in combination with

sensory integrative techniques.Emphasize vestibular simulation and postural movement strategies.Allow therapists to approach the

auditory and vestibular system directly.

INFORMATIVE LISTENINGWhere your aim is to concentrate on the message being given. This may be the content of a lesson, directions, instructions. Listening to lectures, briefing, reports, speeches, instructions. Etc.

The meanings the listeners assigned tends to be as close as possible to that which sender intended.

CRITICAL LISTENINGListening to

evaluate a message for purposes of accepting or rejecting it, as when we listen to the sales pitch of a used-car dealer or the campaign speech of a political candidate.

APPRECIATIVE LISTENINGListening for

pleasure and enjoyment ,as when we listen to music, to a comedy routine or to an entertaining speech, or when we listen any interesting stories form grandma.

DISCRIMINATIVE LISTENINGAs the name it self

suggest discrimination listening is the most basic type of listening where by the different between the sound is identified.

By being sensitive to change In the speakers rate volume , force, pitch, and emphasis the informative listener can defect even minute and minor meaning of difference in meaning.

SYMPATHETIC LISTENINGIn sympathetic listening we care about the other

person and shows these concern in the

way we pay close attention and

express our sorrow for the events and happiness at the

joys.

EMPATHETIC LISTENINGListening to provide

emotional support for the speakers, as when a psychiatrist listen to a patient or when we lend a sympathetic ear to a friend.

Focuses on understanding and identifying with a person's situation , felling , or motives.
