The Four Types of Sentences
There are four types of sentences
They are based on purpose and structure
The four sentences based on structure are: Simple, Complex, Compound, and Compound-Complex
Simple Sentences
By structure, simple sentences are made up of a single independent clause.
ExampleCarmelo Anthony plays on the New York Knicks.
Compound Sentences
By structure, compound sentences are made up of two independent clauses , connected by a coordinating conjunction.
Example Carmelo scored 31 points, but the Knicks
still lost.
Complex Sentences
By structure, complex sentences contain one independent clause and at least one dependent clause.
ExampleWhen Carmelo got injured badly, he had to go to the sidelines.
Compound-Complex Sentences
By structure, compound-complex sentences contains at least two independent clauses and at least one dependent clause.
ExampleIf Carmelo played safer, my brother thought, I could sleep better at night.
Types of Sentences
There are four types of sentences based on purpose.
Those are: Declarative, Imperative, Interrogative, and Exclamatory
Declarative Sentences
Based on purpose, declarative sentences are sentences that make a statement.
ExampleI love Gatorade in basketball games.
Imperative Sentences
By purpose, imperative sentences are sentences that makes a command or request.
ExampleI want more Gatorade now.
Interrogative Sentences
By purpose, interrogative sentences are sentences that pose a question.
ExampleIs there any Gatorade left?
Exclamatory Sentences
By purpose, exclamatory sentences are sentences that exclaim something.
ExampleGatorade is the best drink ever!
