2-YEAR DONOR UPDATE TYPHOON HAIYAN It was the worst storm in the history of the Philippines. When Typhoon Haiyan hit on November 8, 2013, we knew that responding to a disaster of this magnitude would take a dedicated effort and generous support from donors like you. Two years on, we want to share the incredible achievements you’ve made possible. With your donation, the Red Cross carried out a massive emergency operation—reaching 1.3 million people with urgent medical care, clean water, food, temporary shelter, household items and financial assistance. Since then, the Red Cross has remained on the ground to help families and communities recover. In the hardest-hit areas, we have repaired or rebuilt health facilities and school classrooms. Thousands of families now have a secure future, with new homes and restored livelihoods. While our work continues today, the results of your generous support can be seen across the Philippines. You have made an incredible difference to impacted families, who will always be grateful for the compassion and generosity you showed two years ago. When Typhoon Haiyan tore through the Philippines, thousands of families lost everything—including their sources of income. That’s why the Red Cross gave Liliosa Manito a cash grant, which she used to start breeding chickens. Today, she has a stable income and enough savings to buy land to grow rice. Thanks to your generous support, Liliosa, her husband Fernando and their three kids are back on their feet. To date, nearly 60,000 families like Liliosa’s have received cash grants to help them rebuild their livelihoods.

2-YEAR DONOR UPDATE

TYPHOON HAIYAN

It was the worst storm in the history of the Philippines.

YOUR SUPPORT MEANS A STRONGER PHILIPPINES

Since Typhoon Haiyan struck two years ago, your gift has meant so much more than rebuilding what was lost. Our approach to disaster response includes working with communities to make them stronger and better prepared for the next disaster. With your support, we’ve achieved that. Here’s how: DISASTER RESPONSE TEAMS Since Haiyan, the Red Cross has trained disaster response teams in communities across the Philippines. We have provided thousands of volunteers with the skills needed to respond to all types of emergencies. Today, Red Cross teams are on high alert in more than 260 communities, planning and preparing for the next disaster.

FIELD HOSPITAL HANDOVER & TRAINING When the typhoon hit, the Canadian Red Cross immediately deployed a field hospital and team of aid workers to provide urgent medical care. Since then, we have remained on the ground training local Red Cross staff and volunteers to be able to operate the field hospital in the event of a large disaster.

RED CROSS RECOVERY WORK SO FAR:

60,000 families received cash grants to support livelihoods

65,000 homes built or repaired with Red Cross assistance

38 health facilities rebuilt or restored

16,393 Water and sanitation facilities restored

360

classrooms rebuilt or constructed
