Skull tattoos have a wide variety of symbolic meanings, depending on how the skull is used. There are so many ways to depict skulls that they can be used to make statements as diverse as how powerful a person is to how cute and girly or she is. There are skull tattoos that are meant to be frightening, ones that are drawn to be as re-alistic as possible and some that are drawn in pink with hearts for eye sockets. The skull is such a universal symbol that it can be adapted to literally any meaning, from religious to political to simply an artistic design with aesthetic merit.

Cross tattoos are among the most versa-tile tattoo symbols out there today. The most popular cross tattoo is the Latin cross, a Christian religious symbol. Not all are religious – at least, not in a conventional sense. Some people get a cross to express their religious feelings, while other people may just like the design or give a personal symbolic meaning to their tattoo.Cross tattoo designs are representations of a symbol that is far more ancient and varied than you might think.

Anchor tattoos were all the rage for sailors. It was often the symbol of a very experienced sailor. Anchor tattoo designs are one of the oldest types of tattoos. However with an interest in all things retro and chic these have come back into fashion. In fact in the tattoo field as a whole retro tattoo de-signs have been experiencing a resurgence. These retro tattoo designs have come back to life with new more vibrant tattoo colors, designs and placements on the body. This trend originated on the west coast and is even known as west coast tattoo style.

Star tattoos are popular tattoo designs for women as well as men. They are a good choice for a first tattoo because a star is usually small in design and doesn't have to be very complicated; a small and simple black star tattoo can be very striking. The star is one of the oldest symbols and a significant image in many religions and belief systems. They are universal symbols, not tied to a specific religion or culture, and can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people.

Celtic tattoos and body art have been very popular for the past decade or so. Put it down to the graceful, timeless beauty of these designs which seem to lend themselves particularly well to tattoo art.The Celts were an Indo-European group of people who's history goes back to the second century BC. They lived in tribes and roamed the territory of Western Europe. Some of these designs are very old, dating back several thousand years.

Koi tattoo art will bring you wealth and abundance. Since koi can eat a hefty portion of their body weight every day, they were expensive to keep. More often than not koi tattoos are very large tattoos, with intricate shading and colors to depict their rainbow of scales and their strong swimming motion against the current. Koi fish tattoos are popular for the back and both shoulders, or as a sleeve tattoo. Their backgrounds are often as spectacular as the fish itself: with crashing water, suns and moons, cherry blossom and lotus petals floating along.
