ST. ROSE CHURCH

••MAY 13, 2018

The forty days that Jesus spent with His dis-ciples after the resurrection must have seemedso short. There was so much Jesus had to telland so much they had to learn, .even after allthe time they had spent with Him before. Wecan almost picture their meetings after Easterwhenever He would come to be with them. Can't you see them jockeying for position tosee Him, to hear Him, perhaps even to touchHim? Just the miracle of our Lord's livingpresence after His crucifixion that terribleFriday on Calvary was enough to absorb theirattention completely now. But then came thatfortieth day after Easter when Jesus tookthem to the mountain and was taken from theirsight. This was another momentous day in thelives of all who had decided to follow thisJesus of Nazareth. We can readily imagine that the ascension ofJesus was a very difficult time for the disci-pies. They saw it as the final earthly separa-tion from the Master who was so special tothem. There was a deep and peaceful convic-tion that now they had to carryon and ex-pand the work Jesus had begun. To speakabout the kingdom of God and to witness to.Jesus, not only in Jerusalem, throughoutJudea and Samaria, but to the ends of theearth--these were now their task, and it camein the form of a clear mandate--"Go into thewhole world and proclaim the Gospel to everycreature. II As His followers we, too, are giventhe mandate to proclaim the Good News and towitness to the Lord's real presence.+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +
