SUPERINTENDENT'S OFFICELETTER ON THIRD TRIMESTERGRADING/REPORT CARDSDear Elementary Families,

The purpose of this letter is to update you on the plan fortrimester 3 reporting for elementary students. Based onfeedback we received, we will not be sending formal reportcards home for the nal trimester for students in PreK through5th grade. While teachers have been paying close attention toyour child’s work throughout remote learning, we acknowledgethat it’s dicult to discern each student’s independent level ofmastery given the varied levels of support at home and sincewe are still learning how to best assess mastery in a remotesetting.

We can better understand where each student is at after thesummer. We will adapt our instruction and offer support forstudents in the fall to address any learning loss that was aresult of remote learning. As always, if you have questionsabout your child’s learning, reach out to their teacher or to theprincipal.

We are deeply appreciative of everything you have done toadjust to remote learning. We know this required a lot of timeand sacrice on the part of families of elementary agestudents in particular. We value your commitment to yourchild's education and will be asking for feedback from familiesto help us design the program for educating all of our studentsthis fall.

    With appreciation,

FOUNDATION FOR PORTLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS(FPPS) ~ THANK A TEACHER CAMPAIGNMessage from Executive Director, Foundation for Portland Public Schools:

The FPPS is reaching the end of our campaign to raise money for the Innovation and EquityTeacher Grants program. As you may know, our annual fundraising event for this, Spring forTeachers, was canceled due to the pandemic. One of regular corporate sponsors, whonormally donates $10K for these grants also had to back out due to major business losses.

So...we launched a fundraising campaign that was designed to simultaneously show gratitudefor school staff and raise money to distribute to teachers in the fall. We've raised almost $6Kso far, but would love to double that. You know better than almost anyone that teachers willneed funds to innovate next year more than ever!

If you would like to make a donation to this campaign , here is a link to FPPS email about theThank a Teacher campaign.

I will collect them as we get closer to returning to school, but summer would be an ideal timefor work on this initiative. Thanks in advance for your efforts to keep everyone safe andhealthy and your contributions are much appreciated!

  • kid friendly quick and healthy meals and much more. In thisweekly note, I am sharing out information on Kitchen ScrapGardening.

Gardening is one of the best ways to encourage healthy eatingamong children. Active involvement in the growing andharvesting of their food can help kids develop more positiveattitudes towards fresh fruits and vegetables, allowing them tobetter recognize preferences and increase their willingness to try new foods. If outdoorgardening appears to be a challenge – whether due to space, climate or something else – youcan grow indoors with items right in your own kitchen!
