TLC JULY 2017 E-NEWSLETTER

As we close another successful school year, the entire TLC community should

be proud of accomplishing numerous goals to improve lives and expand

possibilities for those we serve. The dedication of our KTS faculty and staff is

evident in the many accomplishments in our KTS news. All of our staff work hard

everyday to help those that they serve reach their goals. We are fortunate to

have a dedicated TLC highly-skilled team.

This year 's golf tournament was a success and a true testament to the

dedication and commitment of our participants, as our golfers braved the rain to

help individuals with special needs. Participants volunteered to purchase 17

Chrome books for our KTS high school students. Technology is very important

at KTS, as it serves many functions to assist the students and strengthen areas

of need. We greatly appreciate our participants!

We look forward to our many summer programs as well as the opportunity to

rest and relax in the coming months. Enjoy your summer! May rest and

relaxation be a part of your summer fun!

DIGEST DEVELOPMENT

2017 26TH ANNUAL TLC GOLF CLASSICWe are proud to announce that the 2017 Golf Classic raised $52,500 for The Treatment and Learning

Centers (TLC). Proceeds from this year 's event will help support much needed programs and services.

Even though the day was dampened by rain, our sixty-four golfers brought sunshine to our students.

They gave generously the day of and helped to raise over $12,000 just during the day of event. Our

evening fund a need was successful by raising over $5,000 to purchase new Chrome books for the

Katherine Thomas High School students. Having this technology will help these students learn the

best way they can learn. The Chromebooks will also help our teachers be more effective with our

students and help our students learn with programs that are tailored to their needs.

In the past 26 years, the Golf Classic has raised over $1.4 million to support those with special needs.

Thank you again for contributing to a great day of golf and camaraderie to benefit The Treatment and

Learning Centers.

Thank you to our generous sponsors!

KTS NEWS

It has been a very active and exciting spring at

KTS! We held our always-inspiring Senior

Breakfast, celebrating each individual graduating

senior and their accomplishments. The Spring

Concert went off without a hitch! Choral members

sang harmoniously and played the instruments

with much finesse. The Art Show showcased KTHS

student talent; paintings, pottery, abstract art, and

more were viewed with much admiration. The 8th

Grade Promotion was another spirit event,

celebrating students ' transition from middle

school to high school. We would like to thank

Johns Hopkins University for providing us with a

wonderful space! The transitioning class shows

tremendous athleticism, creativity, and GRIT, and

will do great in high school! Lastly, we had our

High School Graduation. This year 's graduating

seniors are on their way to their next steps! We are

so proud of ALL OF OUR STUDENTS this year for

working hard and demonstrating GRIT.

UPDDATEOUTCOMES SERVICES

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUTCOMES CONSUMER MAGGIE H. FOR

RECEIVING A MARYLAND ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY SERVICES

ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The TLC Outcomes Service nominated Maggie H. for the MACS Achievement

Award due to her efforts to secure employment after volunteering for the same

organization for 12 years. Maggie displayed great bravery and ambition to chase

her dreams and improve her life by attaining permanent, paid employment.

Attending from TLC Outcomes to celebrate Maggie 's great achievement were

Reka Daroczi (Case Manager), Pam Abramoff (Community Resource Advocate),

Sherri Stocklin (Assistant Program Coordinator), Karen Morgret (Assistant

Director, TLC Outcomes), and Jan Miller-Vogel (Director, TLC Outcomes).

The President's budget, would cut billions in funding to programs that provide critical supports to people

with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This includes $610 billion in cuts to Medicaid over the next

10 years, as well as billions in cuts to Social Security (SSI and SSDI). The budget also essentially eliminates

funding for the Developmental Disability Councils and IDD advocacy by the P&As.

It is essential that we speak out and push back. Please make your voice heard contact our congressional

delegation about the life-altering impact of the AHCA on the lives of people with disabilities- share your

messages about the importance of long term supports and services.

A MESSAGE FROM MACS (MARYLAND ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY SERVICES):

Cuts in Medicaid will Negatively Impact People with Disabilities
