1. Overview of the work of the Board of Directors.

The CI-UADY Board of Administration co-chaired by UADY’s Rector, Alfredo Dájer and President Xu Ningsheng from SYSU has been fundamental for the success and growth of the institute. In the yearly meeting, the Director of the Institute, Dr. Andres Aluja presents a report of the activities done through the year and the budget proposal for the next year. Both the report and budget are discussed, analyzed and approved. Suggestion for improvements has always been much appreciated. The Board alternates the meeting between UADY and SYSU. The board will meet at UADY in January of 2014.

2. The formulation of management regulations (for personnel administration, financial matters, teaching and archives).

CI-UADY has developed procedure for the Board, Teachers and Students. Students at the moment of registration are given the manual with procedures, rules and regulations. With respect to financial issues, CI-UADY follows the procedures according to the university guidelines and regulations which are audited every year.

3. Services provided for the community; the building of affiliated Confucius Classrooms and teaching sites.

CI-UADY has been approached by several sister universities in the Yucatan peninsula expressing intent to collaborate and conform a nucleus of Confucius Classrooms. We also have been approached by the University of Caribe in Cancun (a public state university) with a request to assist them in establishing a Chinese program.

Part Three: Research outcomes and Implementation of the Confucius Institute Headquarters’ key programs.

5. The Implementation of Development and Integration into UADY of IC

CI-UADY has from its beginning made an effort to integrate itself to the university for example during 2013, several kinds of events are held in cooperation with related schools: Seminar of Asian Economics with School of Economics, Seminar of Economic Reform in China with School of Accounting, Seminar of Chinese Traditional Medicine with Medical School, Seminar of Chinese Poem with School of Social Sciences, Seminar of Chinese Literature with School of Liberal Arts, Chinese courses with School of Education and participation in the Cultural Week of UADY.

We have also incorporated to the Schools of Economics and Law the Chinese language courses as a course with credit value. The latter enables students to become more interested in the possibilities of learning another language and culture.

IC-UADY will use as of 2014 the academic administration system of UADY. This will enable all students to register on line and for us to have a well-established infrastructure for academic follow up of our students.

IC-UADY has five administration staff, including three fulltime and two part-time, and six Chinese teachers. Two of them are local, while the other four are Chinese volunteer teachers. Office area now is ninety-seven square meters, one hundred and eighty-nine square meters of six classroom and sixty-six square meters of library and multi-media self-study center and 150 square meters for exhibition. Each year the funding from UADY for the personnel cost in the CI would be one hundred thousand dollars each year in addition to infrastructure maintainace.
