Basic Operation Setting the Squelch You can cut out weak transmissions and noise when you switch on Auto Squelch function. Batteries are required to operate (not included). An optional earphone may also be used. The scans programmed channels until it finds an active frequency. Scanning stops on an active frequency and remains on that channel as long as the transmission continues. When the transmission ends, the scanning cycle resumes until another transmission is received. You can program five different search bands. Simply select a chain search location, define the search range, and begin your search. Police Channel Lockout

Use If a particular channel continues tointerrupt Police Channel search scanning, itis possible to set your scanner to lockoutthe Police Channel.

If your scannerstops whilesearching,press tolockout thePolice Channel.

You can program 20 lockoutChannels. The 21st lockout Channelentered causes the 1st to unlock.

1. Press , , repeatedly until the lockedout Police Channel appears in the display.

2. Press to unlock the Police Channel.

To unlock all Lockout Police Channel atonce, follow these steps:

1. Press eitheror

during a PoliceChannel search.

You must be in Search Hold beforerestoring all locked out Police Channels.

2. Press andhold forabout twoseconds.You will heartwo beepswhen all thechannels havebeen restored.

Priority Scan

When priority scan is turned on, yourscanner checks the priority channel everytwo seconds for activity. If a signal ispresent on the priority channel, yourscanner monitors the channel until thetransmission ends, then resumes normalscanning. You can designate any one ofthe 20 available channels as your prioritychannel.

Chain Search

Use chain search to find active frequenciesin your area. You can search up to all fivepersonal bands or turn off those bands youdon’t want to hear. This gives you flexibilityof searching for any channel between 66and 512 MHz, as long as they are withinthe 8 frequency bands covered by the

.See the table on page 3.

An errormessagedisplays when

is pressedand you have not either specified a searchrange in at least one chain search band.

If you attempt to turn off all personal chainsearch bands, the error tone beeps buterror will not be displayed.

Press to return to manual mode, orpress to select the band you want toprogram.

Troubleshooting

If your is not performing properly, try the following steps.

Problem Suggestion

Improper reception 1. Check the antenna connection or move and reposition theantenna.

2. Move the scanner.3. You may be in a remote area which could require an optional

multiband antenna. Check with your dealer or localelectronics store.

Scan won’t stop 1. Adjust squelch threshold - refer to page 4, Setting theSquelch.

2. Check the antenna connection.3. Check to see if many of the channels are locked-out. If so,

the scanner has less chance of finding an active channel.4. Review each channel’s frequency to see if it is still stored in

memory and is correct.5. It’s possible that none of the programmed frequencies are

currently active.

Scan won’t start. 1. Press the SCAN key again.2. Confirm SQUELCH function is on.3. Check to see if all channels are locked out.
