UC|Great Beginnings

117 Learning Communities across 8 schools and colleges

Approximately 1,800 first-year students enrolled

Nearly 70 upper-class Peer LeadersLC CoreGreat Beginnings Certificate Program

57 Unique courses from 10 schools and colleges

When a student requests permission to drop a class, the advisor must send an email to Amanda Middleton including the student’s UCID number, the course and section that need to be dropped and why the course needs to be dropped

Once the drop permission has been approved by Amanda and entered into UniverSIS the student will receive an email (with the requesting advisor copied) letting them know that it is okay to drop

Autumn QuarterThe student MUST be in a Learning Community

and no other LC fitsExamples: AP Credit for an Engineering student,

Football practice for a CJ student

Winter/Spring QuartersThe student cannot continue with a course

sequenceThe course conflicts with an inflexible commitmentExamples: A student did not pass CHEM101 so

cannot continue to CHEM102, Choir practice is only offered at a certain time.

Drop permission is no longer required after calendar day 21 of each quarter

Drop permission is never required for dropping the entire LC (15MLTI111)

Drop permissions are typically purged one week after they were granted

Beginning with Spring we will be piloting a new course permission function for LCs

Deadlines for registration will be changing with the new permission system

If you are interested in joining the spring quarter pilot please contact Amanda Middleton ASAP

Planning is happening NOW!

If you have any ideas/suggestions/comments please let Amanda Middleton or your college rep know ASAP
