BRUINS WELCOME COLORADO TO ROSE BOWL FOR WHITE-OUT — UCLA (2-2, 0-1) hosts last year’s South Division
champion Colorado (3-1, 0-1) on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the rst conference home game of the season. The game will be televised
by ESPN2. The Bruin IMG Radio Network will radio broadcast the contest, which will also be aired over Sirius/XM, uclabruins.com and tunein.
com and the TuneIn App. UCLA fans are encouraged to wear white for the white-out game.
The Bruins own a 5-1 record over the Buffaloes in series match-ups played in Los Angeles. The Bruins have won the last three, with
Colorado’s last victory in LA coming in the 2002 season. Each of the last three meetings in the series overall has been won in the
fourth quarter, or overtime, and those three games have been decided by a total of just 17 points.
UCLA captured a 40-37 win in overtime at Boulder in 2014 on Brett Hundley’s scoring dash in the extra period. The Bruins registered a
35-31 victory in the last meeting in the Rose Bowl, in 2015, after tallying the deciding points on a Soso Jamabo 2-yd fourth-quarter
run. In last year’s game in Boulder, UCLA took a 10-7 lead at the half against the #21 Buffaloes. Colorado tied it up with a third-
quarter eld goal and then won it in the fourth quarter after adding another eld goal and a 68-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Rick Wade blocked one CU eld goal attempt, and the Bruins mis red on two eld goal attempts and had another blocked as CU
came away with a 20-10 verdict.
THE WATCH LIST— • A win over Colorado would be the 599th overall in UCLA football program history. The Bruins played their rst games in the 1919 season.
• With its 595-yard performance at Stanford, UCLA set a school mark with its fourth consecutive 500-yard total offense games in a season ... the
school record for most 500-yard total offense games overall in a season is 5 --- in 2014, 1998, 1976, 1973.
• UCLA owns a 5-1 record vs. Colorado since the Buffaloes joined the Pac-12 for the 2011 season.
• Josh Rosen leads the nation in passing yards (1,763), passing touchdowns (16), points responsible for (102), points responsible for per game
(25.5)...After his performance at Stanford, he moved into the top spot in the nation in total offense (444.8) and passing yards/game (440.8).
• Rosen has reached and surpassed the 1,500-yard passing mark, in four games, faster than any previous Bruin QB (1,763 yards).
• UCLA is the only school in the country with three receivers listed with an average of at least 100 receiving yards per game - Andrews (14th)
114.2,Jordan Lasley (17th) 106.7, Caleb Wilson (18th) 106.2.
• Darren Andrews, who leads the nation in touchdown catches with seven, needs three more catches to enter the school’s all-time
top 10 list and tie Taylor Embree (137) for 10th on the all-time school list for receptions. Andrews entered the year with ve
career touchdown receptions in his rst three seasons of action.
• UCLA is the only school in the nation with at least four players averaging at least 100 all-purpose yards per game - #58 Darren
Andrews 118.75, 86 Jordan Lasley 108.33, 87 Darnay Holmes 108.25, 94 Caleb Wilson 106.25
• Rosen, with his 480-yard effort at Stanford and his fourth straight 300-yard plus game to start the season, became the rst Bruin quarterback
to record more than three 300-yard passing games in a row during the same season.
• Rosen’s 16 scoring passes in the rst four games breaks Drew Olson’s mark of 15 over a four-game stetch of the 2005 season.
• At Stanford, Darren Andrews became the rst Bruin player to catch touchdown passes in four straight games since Thomas Duarte, 2015. J.J.
Stokes is the all-time school leader with scoring catches in seven-straight contests in the 1993 campaign.
• Josh Rosen (491 v. A&M, 463 at Memphis, 480 at Stanford) tied Cade McNown’s school mark of three 350-yard passing games in a season
last week at Stanford ... Rosen’s 480-yard passing performance at Stanford was his seventh career 350-yard passing game, which moved
him past McNown (6) for the most in school history.
• The win over Hawai’i was victory #43 for Coach Mora, who is in fth on the all-time Bruin coaching win list. Coach Mora needs seven more Ws to
become just the fourth UCLA head man to reach the 50-win mark (Terry Donahue - 151, Bill Spaulding - 72, Red Sanders - 66, Bob Toledo 49)
• Josh Rosen moved past Cory Paus for 4th on the all-time UCLA career passing yards list in the rst quarter at Stanford (currently 7,346 yds).
• The Stanford game marked the 13th-straight game in which Rosen has thrown at least one TD pass, a school record number (Brett Hundley,
2012-13; Tommy Maddox, 1990-91 each had streaks of 12 over the 2 seasons listed) ... Rosen has at least one scoring pass in 22 of his 23
career games (not Washington State) ... The Stanford game was the 9th career game in which he has at least 3 TD passes.
• The record of the remaining opponents on the Bruin schedule is: 25-7 ---- Colorado 3-1, Arizona 2-2, Oregon 3-1, Washington 4-0, Utah 4-0,
Arizona State 2-2, USC 4-0, Cal 3-1.
• Caleb Wilson and Jordan Lasley, with their 11-catch performances at Stanford, became the fourth and fth players in school history to record
two double-digit reception games in the same season. At Memphis, Darren Andrews (12 vs. Texas A&M, 10 at Memphis) became the rst
Bruin receiver since Craig Bragg (10 vs. Oklahoma, 10 vs. Oregon in 2003) to record double-digit receptions in two games in the same season.
Andrews was just the third Bruin receiver to do so at the time (also J.J. Stokes 10 vs. Washington, 14 vs. Wisconsin in 1993 season). No Bruin
receiver has done it more than twice in a season. Stokes is the all-time school leader with three for his career.
• Josh Rosen needs one more touchdown pass to tie Tom Ramsey, 1979-82, for fourth on the all-time school list with 50.
• Josh Rosen registered his eighth career 350-yard total offense game at Stanford to equal the school record also held by Brett Hundley, 2012-
14, and Cade McNown, 1995-98.
• Soso Jamabo with his 100-yard rushing effort at Stanford, became the rst Bruin back to reach the century mark since Paul Perkins rushed
for 121 yds. in a 2015 contest vs. Washington State.

• Dating back to 1980, Rosen’s 88% completion performance vs. Hawai’i (22-25) rates as the second-best by a Bruin QB behind Rick Neuheisel’s
25-27 effort (.925) in a 1983 game vs. Washington.
• Record in alternate unis under Coach Mora: ‘12 (Dark Blue) W-Arizona, L-Stanford; ‘13 (Black) W-Wash., W-Va Tech; ‘14 (Gray) W-Arizona; ‘15

• Darnay Holmes’ 30-yard interception return vs. Hawai’i was the 13th defensive score for the Bruins since 2012.
• Seven members of last year’s UCLA defensive unit are with NFL teams in one capacity or another, including three defensive linemen (DL
Takkarist McKinley, DL Eli Ankou, DL Eddie Vanderdoes), three members of the secondary (DB Marcus Rios, DB Randall Goforth, DB Fabian
Moreau) and last year’s leading tackler (LB Jayon Brown).

• UCLA has posted a 13-11 overall record against ranked opponents under Coach Mora and has won seven of the last 12.
• Since the start of the 2012 season, UCLA has won 23 of 28 games (82%) when winning the turnover battle and owns a record of 20-21
(48.7%) in games when losing or tying the turnover ratio.

in four of the past ! ve drafts.
• True freshmen played: 2017: 4, 2016: 11, 2015: 10, 2014: 9, 2013: 18, 2012:12 --- True freshmen who have seen action in 2017: DB Darnay

time the Bruins have racked up at least 600 yards of offense since 2012.
• Tight end Caleb Wilson’s 15 catches vs. Texas A&M established a new UCLA school record (WR J.J. Stokes had 14 vs. Wisconsin in 1994
Rose Bowl game and WR Jordan Payton had 14 vs. Washington State in 2015) ... Wilson was just the third Bruin receiver to go over the 200
receiving yards mark with his 208-yard effort vs. A&M (Stokes holds school mark with 263 yards vs. USC, 1992; WR Craig Bragg had 230 vs.

• Darren Andrews’ 12 catches vs. Texas A&M are the fourth-most catches in a game by a Bruin ... Only C. Wilson (15), Stokes (14) and Payton (14)
have made more in a contest. Last season, Andrews became the 35th Bruin to reach the 1,000-receiving yards mark (vs. Colorado) ... The
two previous seasons, Andrews hauled in 98 passes for 1,152 yards and no returning Pac-12 player had caught more passes than Andrews
over those two previous seasons (CU’s Shay Fields also had 98 entering play in 2017).

• The Texas A&M game marked the second time in school history UCLA has had three 100-yard receivers in the same contest --- Caleb WIlson
(208), Darren Andrews (142), Jordan Lasley (100). The only other time was in a 2005 game vs. Arizona State (Chris Markey 120, Joe Cowan
109, Marcedes Lewis 108).
• The Bruin comeback from 34 points down (10-44 with 4:08 remaining in the 3rd quarter ranks as the second-greatest number of points over-

loss 17-16 to BYU in 2007 Las Vegas Bowl / last regular season loss 16-14 at Colorado 2003).
No. 42 - THE LAST SEASON ON THE GRIDIRON
In 2014, on the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s arrival at UCLA, Athletics Director Dan Guerrero announced that the school was
retiring number 42 across all sports. While he wore several numbers at UCLA, Jackie Robinson made the number 42 as iconic as the man
himself. Then freshman linebacker Kenny Young was able to continue wearing the number for the duration of his Bruin career and now
enters his senior season in 2017.
In conjunction with UCLA, the City of Pasadena and the Rose Bowl Operating Committee, the Rose Bowl subsequently unveiled
Robinson’s iconic #42 near the east scoreboard and have made it a permanent ! xture in the stadium. UCLA has permanently displayed
Robinson’s number 42 inside each of its athletic competition venues. In addition, a series of 22 athletic and recreation facilities across
campus were named the Jackie Robinson Athletics and Recreation Complex. Chief among the campus’ recognition of the complex is an
in-ground number 42 at each entry point to UCLA’s training centers, competition sites, ! elds and stadiums as a reminder of Robinson’s
tremendous courage in the face of adversity.
From 1939 to 1941, Robinson starred in four sports at UCLA. In football, Robinson played both offense and defense, returned punts,
caught and threw passes, kicked extra points and in the process, earned honorable mention All-American accolades. In basketball, he
twice led the Paci! c Coast Conference in scoring. In track, he won the NCAA championship in the broad jump. And in baseball, he began
his legendary journey as a highly-regarded shortstop for the Bruins.

2017 UCLA FOOTBALL
UCLA HEAD COACH JIM MORA On December 10, 2011, former Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks head coach Jim Mora was named UCLA’s 17th head
coach in school history. In his ve-plus seasons at the helm, Mora has led the Bruins to a pair of school-record tying 10-win
seasons, four bowl games, a Pac-12 South Division Championship. His Bruin teams have produced four of the top ve best
total offense season outputs in school history, as well as, the school single-game mark. Twenty- ve Bruins have heard their
names called in the past ve NFL Drafts, including a rst-round selection in four of the past ve drafts.
In 2016, the Bruins produced several top 25 national rankings in numerous offensive and defensive categories and had three
standouts selected to the rst-team All-Pac-12 squad. On defense, the team pass defense ef ciency rating was seventh in
the nation (105.8) and the total of 12 opponent touchdown passes was the fewest allowed by a conference school. Takkarist
McKinley, a rst-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, ranked among the top 11 in the nation, and second in the Pac-12, in both
sacks (0.91/g) and tackles for loss (1.6/g). McKinley was joined on the All-Pac-12 rst team by Jayon Brown, who topped the
Pac-12 and ranked ninth in the nation in total tackles (9.9/g). Kenny Young, sixth in the league in tackles (7.5), was named second-team All-Pac-12.
On offense, UCLA ranked 19th in the nation in passing offense with its 295.6 passing yards per game average. Center Scott Quessenberry was named
a rst-team All-Pac-12 performer. TE Nate Iese and OT Conor McDermott, a draft pick of the World Champion Patriots, earned second-team recognition.
Five Bruins in all were selected in the 2017 NFL Draft, making for a total of 21 players chosen in the past four drafts, the most over a four-year period
since the 1989-92 drafts produced 23 picks. The total of 25 players selected in the last ve drafts is the most of any Pac-12 school during that stretch.
The 2015 season saw Mora equal Terry Donahue’s school-best four-year win mark of 37 contests, extend the school’s win streak in games away from
the Rose Bowl to a school record total of 12 and participate in a fourth straight bowl game. Eight Bruins, including rst-round selection Kenny Clark
and second-round pick Myles Jack, were chosen in the draft, the most by the program since 1988. The total of eight players selected in the draft was
the most of any Pac-12 school and the most UCLA has ever had picked in the seven round draft format. Ka’imi Fairbairn was the program’s second
Lou Groza Award winner and became the conference’s all-time leading scorer; Jordan Payton emerged as the school’s all-time leading receiver; Paul
Perkins produced a second-straight 1,000-yard season; freshman QB Josh Rosen established multiple school milestones.
In 2014, Mora guided the Bruins to the ninth 10-win season in school history, matching the school record for wins in a season. It marked the third straight
year in which Mora’s Bruins had produced at least nine wins, a rst in program history,
and included a third consecutive win over USC. His 29 total wins are the most-ever by a
UCLA coach in his initial three seasons on the job. Following the victory in the 2015 Valero
Alamo Bowl, UCLA had captured wins in 10 straight games away from the Rose Bowl to
match that school record, including a school-best 7-0 slate in 2014. That bowl win was
also the team’s third victory of the season over an AP Top-15 ranked opponent, which was
the most by the program since it defeated four such teams in 1952. The Bruins capped
off the year ranked No. 10 in the nal AP poll, the highest for the program since 1998.
Eric Kendricks, who became the school’s all-time leading tackler during the season, went
on to be UCLA’s rst recipient of the Butkus Award and the program’s second-straight
winner of the Lott IMPACT Trophy. Brett Hundley set numerous school career records,
including bests for most touchdown passes and total offense. Perkins led the Pac-12 in rushing, the rst time for a Bruin since 2001, and produced
the second-highest rushing yardage total in school history.
In 2013, Mora led the Bruins to the eighth 10-win season in school history, tying the school mark for most wins in a season. UCLA remained in the AP
rankings throughout the full season for the rst time since 1998. LB Anthony Barr was selected as a rst-team All-America and as the school’s rst
winner of the Lott IMPACT Trophy. A school record 18 true freshmen saw action during the season and seven true freshmen position players started
in a game to match that school record. Five Bruins, the most by the program since 2002, were selected in the 2014 NFL Draft, headed by Barr’s pick
at No. 9 overall by the Vikings.
In his rst year, Mora guided the Bruins to the 2012 South Division Championship of the Pac-12 Conference and equaled the school-record for wins
by a rst-year coach, with nine. The Bruins, who played in the Holiday Bowl, set numerous offensive records during the course of the season, including
establishing a new school rushing leader, in Johnathan Franklin, and several passing marks achieved by Hundley. On defense, Barr, in his rst season
as a linebacker, led the nation in sacks for a good portion of the year. Four players were selected in the 2013 NFL Draft, including defensive lineman
Datone Jones, in the rst round.
Mora, a former NFC Coach of the Year, came to UCLA after spending part of 2010 and most of 2011 as an analyst and contributor for the NFL Network
and the NFL on FOX. He brought 25 years of NFL coaching acumen with him to UCLA, including four years of NFL head coaching experience while at
the helm of the Atlanta Falcons (2004-06) and the Seattle Seahawks (2009).
Mora took over for Mike Holmgren as head coach of the Seahawks in 2009. He had served as assistant head coach and defensive backs coach for Seattle
in the 2007 and 2008 campaigns. The Seahawks went 10-6 and nished rst in the NFC West in 2007 and won the Wild Card game in the playoffs.
In his initial season as the head coach of Atlanta in 2004, Mora directed the team to an 11-5 record, becoming just the eighth rookie head coach in NFL
history to win 11 games and the 11th to bring home a Division title. The Falcons captured the NFC South title and earned an appearance in the NFC
Championship Game for only the second time in franchise history. Mora was selected as the NFC Coach of the Year. The Falcons’ defense improved
from a league ranking of 32nd in 2003 to No. 14 overall the next season, fueled by a league-leading and franchise record 48 quarterback sacks.
Atlanta topped the NFL in rushing in all three of Mora’s seasons as head coach. In 2006, Michael Vick became the rst quarterback in NFL history to
rush for at least 1,000 yards in a season.
Mora had joined the Falcons following a seven-season stint with the San Francisco 49ers (1997-2003). He spent his last ve seasons in San Francisco
as defensive coordinator. In his rst year, the 49ers nished No. 1 in the NFL in total defense. The 1998 squad tied for No. 1 in the NFC in interceptions,
with 21. The 1997 team advanced to the NFC Championship Game and had three defensive players voted to the Pro Bowl, while the 1998 and 2002
squads captured Wild Card Game wins.
From 1992-1996, Mora worked on the staff of his dad, Jim E. Mora, as the secondary coach with the New Orleans Saints. His defensive expertise began
to take shape and the Saints boasted the No. 1 pass defense in the NFL during his rst two years. In 1985, Mora broke into the NFL coaching ranks
with the Chargers, under head coach Don Coryell. He spent seven seasons with San Diego, advancing from the league’s rst quality control coaching
position to defensive backs coach, while working for head coaches Coryell, Al Saunders and Dan Henning.
NFL Pro Bowlers who have played under coach Mora over the years include -- Anthony Barr, LB-Minnesota; Julian Peterson, LB-Seattle and San
Francisco; Marcus Trufant, DB-Seattle; Allen Rossum, DB-Atlanta; Patrick Kerney, DL-Atlanta; Roderick Coleman, DL-Atlanta; Keith Brooking, LB-Atlanta;
DeAngelo Hall, DB-Atlanta; Michael Vick, QB-Atlanta; Alge Crumpler, TE-Atlanta; Warrick Dunn, RB-Atlanta; Bryant Young, DL-San Francisco; Lance
Schulters, DB-San Francisco; Merton Hanks, DB-San Francisco; Eric Allen, DB-New Orleans; Tyrone Hughes, DB-New Orleans; Gill Byrd, DB-San Diego.
Mora began his coaching career in 1984 at the University of Washington, where he joined the staff of Don James in the role of defensive assistant
following a four-year playing career as a defensive back for the Huskies. While at UW, Mora had the opportunity to be a part of two Rose Bowl teams
(1981-loss to Michigan/ 1982-win over Iowa) as a player, in addition to helping the Huskies land a berth in the 1985 Orange Bowl (win over Oklahoma)
as a graduate assistant. During his ve seasons in the Husky program, Washington compiled a 48-12 record, ranked among the nation’s top 10 teams
on three occasions, and did not nish lower than second in the Pac-10 standings.

#7 Redshirt Senior WR DARREN ANDREWS (Political Science major) cur-
rently leads the nation in scoring receptions
and was recently added to the Biletnikoff Award
Watch List. He made his seventh scoring grab of
the season at Stanford. At Memphis, Darren An-
drews (12 vs. Texas A&M, 10 at Memphis) be-
came the rst Bruin receiver since Craig Bragg
(10 vs. Oklahoma, 10 vs. Oregon in 2003) to
record double-digit receptions in two games in
the same season. Andrews was just the third
Bruin receiver to do so (also J.J. Stokes 10 vs. Washington, 14 vs.
Wisconsin in the 1993 season). No Bruin receiver has done it more
than twice in a season. Stokes is the all-time school leader with three
for his career.
Earlier this season, he hauled in a career-best 12 passes vs. Texas
A&M in the 2017 opener. He made 98 catches in the previous two
seasons heading into 2017, more than any other returning Pac-12
player has made (CU’s Shay Fields also had 98). In 2016, he made
seven starts, ranked 10th in the Pac-12 in receptions per game
(4.6), and his 55 catches (t14th on all-time school list) led the team.
Andrews posted two 100-yard games (Arizona-108, Wash. St.-116)
and had a 19-game streak of receptions snapped in the season nale
at Cal. In 2015, he made seven starts and ranked third on the team in
receptions (43). He hooked up with Josh Rosen on a 70-yard scoring
pass play on his way to a 100-yard receiving game at Stanford. In
2013, he appeared in eight games on special teams and as a reserve
receiver. He redshirted during the 2014 season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER NOTES
#3 Junior QB JOSH ROSEN (Economics major) currently leads the na-
tion in passing yards, total offense and passing
touchdowns. Rosen’s 495 total yards of offense
at Memphis and at Stanford rank as tied for the
third-most in school annals. His 60 passing at-
tempts at Stanford were the second-most (Mike
Fafaul /FAY-full/ 70 vs. Utah, 2016) at the school
and his 40 completions (Fafaul’s total of 40 in
that Utah game) vs. the Cardinal were tied for
the most ever. Rosen’s 491-yard passing effort
vs. Texas A&M was the third-most in school history behind only Cade
McNown (513 vs. Miami in 1998) and Drew Olson (510 vs. Arizona
State in 2005). Rosen threw for 292 yards in the fourth quarter alone.
Last season, he started in the rst six games of the 2016 campaign
before being injured and sitting out the balance of the year. In that
sixth game at Arizona State, he threw for a then career-best 400
yards (T6th-best in school history) which was his 10th career 300-
yard passing game. In 2015, he became the rst Bruin true freshman
to open the season as the starting quarterback and went on to set
numerous school records, including most consecutive passes without
an interception (245), most passing yards by a true freshman in a
game (399 v. Cal), most passing yards in a true freshman season ,
most 300-yard passing games in a season (tied-6), most touchdown
passes thrown by a true freshman (23), most passing attempts in a
season (487). He three for at least 300 yards in games versus Ne-
braska (319), Washington State (340), Oregon State (333), Cal (399),
Stanford (325) and Virginia (350). Rosen tossed three scoring passes
in games versus Nebraska, Cal, Stanford and Virginia. His 410 yards
of total offense against Washington State ranked tied for ninth on the
all-time school list. He was named the Pac-12 Conference Offensive
Freshman of the Year by the league’s coaches.

2017 UCLA FOOTBALL
THE ROSE BOWL - HOME OF BRUIN FOOTBALL
The nation’s most famous college football stadium – The Rose Bowl – is-
now in its 36th season as the home of the UCLA Bruins football team. The
stadium is recognized as both a United States National Historic Landmark
and a California Historic Civil Engineering landmark.
The Rose Bowl was built specifi cally for football, but has been utilized as
a venue for portions of the 1932 Olympic Games’ cycling events and was
the soccer site for the 1984 Olympics. The Rose Bowl has also played
host to fi ve NFL Super Bowls – XI in 1977, XIV in 1980, XVII in 1983, XXI
in 1987 and XXVII in 1993. It was a venue for the 1994 World Cup and
the 1999 Women’s World Cup soccer tournaments, including the cham-
pionship games. The USA women’s soccer team victory over China in
the 1999 event drew over 90,000 fans. In addition, the 1983 Army-Navy
game was played in the Rose Bowl.
On Jan. 1, 2015, the Rose Bowl served as the site of one of the College
Football Playoff semifi nal games. The previous January, the Rose Bowl
hosted the fi nal BCS Championship contest. It had also played host to the
BCS Championship game in 2002, 2006 and 2010.
Considered an ideal concert venue, the Rose Bowl has hosted shows by
such groups and artists as Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean,
One Direction, U2, ‘N Sync, Eagles, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Michael
Jackson, Metallica, Guns and Roses, Depeche Mode and Journey.
The iconic stadium is in the process of completing the fi nal touches on
a $181 million dollar renovation, and now features a new video board,
improved exiting, wider aisles in the end zones and the Terry Donahue
Pavilion. The Pavilion area houses the press boxes, broadcast booths,
premium seating, boxes and suites. In December of 2015, the radio and
TV booths were renamed “The Keith Jackson Broadcast Center”. Jackson,
the former sportscaster, coined the phrase “The Grandaddy of Them All”
for the Rose Bowl Game. Also added are fi eld level entrances and exits,
and additional concession stands and restroom facilities.
Since 2007, UCLA and its opponents have dressed in new locker rooms
located underneath the south concourse of the stadium. The locker area
features all of the latest amenities to benefi t the players, coaches, sports
medicine and equipment staffs. In addition, a new media interview room
and working press area were included in the upgrades. In 1998, new in-
dividual chairs were installed in the seating areas between the end zones.
Also, improved seating areas for the physically challenged were installed,
as well as a new sound system.
Completed in 1922 at a cost of $272,198, the Rose Bowl was fi rst used
for the USC-California football game that year which was won by the Gold-
en Bears 12-0. The stadium was originally horseshoe shaped and seated
57,000 persons when it hosted the 1923 Rose Bowl Game. The south end
zone was enclosed prior to the 1929 game to increase seating capacity
to 76,000. Further enlargements took place in 1932 (83,677) and 1949
(100,807). A record crowd of 106,869 fans witnessed the 1973 Ohio
State – USC Rose Bowl contest. With the current seating confi guration for
UCLA home games, the capacity is 80,616.
The Rose Bowl has many fi rsts in its vast history. On Jan. 1, 1927, ra-
dio stations across the nation were linked together for the fi rst time in
a coast-to-coast broadcast. On Jan. 1, 1954, The UCLA-Michigan State
Rose Bowl Game was the fi rst west-to-east color telecast on a nationwide
connection.
The Rose Bowl has 77 rows of seats. It measures 880 feet from the north
to south rims and 695 feet from east to west. Its circumference around
the rim is 2,430 feet, compared to 1,350 feet at fi eld level. It took 28
miles of lumber to provide the original seats. The square footage of the
grass on the fl oor of the stadium is 79,156.

2017 GAME RECAPS
GAME ONE: UCLA 45, Texas A&M 44
Sept. 3 - Rose BowlPASADENA, California (AP) -- Josh Rosen
faked to spike the ball to stop the clock
and instead threw a 10-yard touchdown
pass to Jordan Lasley with 43 sec-
onds remaining and UCLA overcame a
34-point defi cit to stun Texas A&M 45-44
on the fi rst Sunday college football game
ever played at the Rose Bowl.
Rosen was 35 of 59 for 491 yards on
the night and four fourth-quarter touch-
downs. He threw for 292 yards and the four scoring passes all in the
fi nal 15 minutes to overcome a 27-point margin. “My career at UCLA,
we’ve had a lot of times where the chips didn’t fall in our favor, and I
think it’s time that fi nally it did,” Rosen said.
UCLA scored touchdowns on fi ve straight possessions after trailing 44-
10 with 4:08 to play in the third quarter. Rosen threw scoring passes
of 9 and 42 yards to Darren Andrews before fi nding Theo Howard for a
16-yard score on a broken play with 3:08 remaining.
UCLA got the ball back with 2:39 to go and drove 66 yards in 10 plays,
including an 11-yard throw and catch to tight end Caleb Wilson. Rosen
capped the remarkable comeback with a fade to the far corner of the
end zone after faking the spike. JJ Molson kicked the winning extra
point.
“We were an inch away from losing that game probably 10 times,” said
Rosen, who threw for the third-most yards in a game in school history.
“I mean, for God’s sakes, I mean, that fi eld goal would have put us out,
and we just had an incredible surge and effort just to put probably a
centimeter of a fi nger on the ball. I mean, the things that had to go right
to win this game were incredible.”
Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond was stopped short of the fi rst-
down marker on a scramble with 20 seconds left to close out the big-
gest FBS comeback since 2006.
“It was a lot of fun, huh? Glad you stuck around?” UCLA coach Jim
Mora said. “We knew that this was not going to be an easy game,
but we didn’t know we were going to be down 28 points at halftime. I
was just so impressed by the way that they managed their emotions at
halftime and then coming back in the second half.”
Wilson had a school-record 15 receptions for 203 yards, and Andrews
had 12 catches for 143 yards. Rosen’s 491 yard passing effort was the
third-highest in school history and tied him with Cade McNown for the
most 300-yard passing games in school history with 11.

GAME TWO: UCLA 56, Hawai’i 23
Sept. 9 - Rose BowlPASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Josh Rosen
was 22-for-25 for 329 yards passing
and found Darren Andrews for three of
his career-high fi ve touchdown passes
as UCLA defeated Hawaii 56-23 on
Saturday.
With the 329-yard performance,
Rosen moved past Cade McNown
and into sole possession of the UCLA
record for most 300-yard passing
games in a career with 12. The fi ve scoring passes were the most by
a Bruin quarterback since Ben Olson tossed fi ve in a 2007 win over
Stanford.
Andrews became the fi rst UCLA receiver to haul in three scoring
passes in a game since Marcedes Lewis caught three in a 2004
game versus Arizona. Theo Howard, who fi nished with a career-best
seven catches, had his fi rst 100-yard game (110).
Howard and Caleb Wilson each caught a touchdown pass. Demetric
Felton and Bolu Olorunfunmi each had 1-yard touchdown runs for the
Bruins, who have scored touchdowns on 12 of 14 possessions with
Rosen at quarterback dating back to the third quarter of their 45-44
comeback win over Texas A&M on Sunday.
UH’s Dru Brown threw for 227 yards, with a 4-yard touchdown pass to
Diocemy Saint Juste and a 2-yard score to John Ursua, as Hawaii saw
its winning streak end at fi ve games. Brown also threw an interception
that was returned 30 yards for a touchdown by UCLA freshman
cornerback Darnay Holmes.

GAME THREE: UCLA 45, at Memphis 48
Sept. 16 - Memphis, Tenn.MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — UCLA came in
after earning its fi rst national ranking of
the year, but the Memphis Tigers came
away with the win. The Bruins’ fourth-
quarter comeback was denied by the
Tigers and Memphis beat the No. 25
Bruins 48-45 on Saturday.
Memphis quarterback Riley Ferguson
threw for 398 yards and six touch-
downs, and Jacobi Francis broke up a late fourth-down pass attempt
by Josh Rosen to lead Memphis. Francis’ breakup with 56 seconds
left sent the Tigers faithful into a celebration.
Rosen fi nished 34 of 56 for 463 yards and four touchdowns for the
Bruins. But there also were two key interceptions, one of which was
returned for a touchdown and the other stopped a late Bruin drive.
UCLA gave up big plays and turnovers, key ones that thwarted drives
and led to Memphis scores, including a 60-yard interception return by
linebacker Tim Hart in the third quarter.
“There’s a formula for winning,” UCLA coach Jim Mora said. “You
can’t turn the ball over, and you can’t give up explosive plays and we
did both.”
“I just made some stupid mistakes,” Rosen said. “I made about 10
points worth of really bad plays. ... I just can’t make really, really, silly
mistakes like that. It’s just trying to play hero ball. It’s not needed.
You’ve got to play within the system.”
Both teams managed to answer the opponents’ scores through the
game. Memphis held a couple of 10-point leads, but UCLA went
ahead 45-41 on Rosen’s 22-yard pass to Austin Roberts with 11:51
left. Memphis responded with a four-play, 81-yard drive, the fi nal 3
yards coming on Ferguson’s pass to Phil Mayhue with 9:56 left.
From there, it was up to the Tigers’ defense, which despite giving up
633 yards, did not allow another touchdown.
The Bruins did have a successful rushing attack against the Tigers,
including Bolu Olorunfunmi gaining 77 yards on 13 carries. The Bruins
fi nished with 170 yards rushing after gaining 195 on the ground in
their fi rst two games.
Darren Andrews caught an NCAA-leading sixth touchdown pass of
the season, a 65-yard catch-and-run. It was one of 10 catches on the
day for Andrews who became the third Bruin to record two 10-catch
games in a season.

GAME FOUR: UCLA 34, Stanford 58
Sept. 23 - Stanford, Calif.STANFORD, Calif. – In a game that
saw each team surpass 500 yards of
total offense, UCLA dropped its Pac-12
opener on the road to Stanford, 58-34.
Bruin quarterback Josh Rosen passed
for 480 yards, including a career-high
158 to Jordan Lasley and 145 to Caleb
Wilson, while Soso Jamabo added a
career-best 100 rushing yards. Bryce
Love and the Cardinal rushing attack proved too strong, however, as
the Pac-12’s leading runner ran for 263 yards and a score.
Beginning the initial drive of the game on its own 48-yard line after a
big kickoff return, the Cardinal opened the scoring with a fi eld goal. A
muffed punt by the Cardinal’s Quenton Meeks was pounced on by the
Bruins’ Johnny Den Bleyker at the Stanford 15 and J.J. Molson would
eventually knot the game at 3-3 with a 27-yard answer.
The teams would trade fi eld goals before the Bruins fi nally broke
through on their fi rst full drive of the second frame. Rosen completed
three consecutive passes, capped by a 48-yard strike to Lasley to
reach the 12-yard line. Following his fi rst incompletion of the stretch,
Rosen hit Darren Andrews for the game’s fi rst touchdown and the
receiver’s seventh of the season.
A Harrison Phillips block of a Molson 23-yard attempt shifted mo-
mentum in favor of the home Cardinal. Love runs of 27 and 32 yards
keyed Stanford’s push to their fi rst touchdown of the contest. The next
Bruin drive would go three and out, as K.J. Costello, the Cardinal’s
third quarterback of the game, took over and re-established the Stan-
ford advantage with a nine-yard scoring run to provide a 20-13 lead.
A Cardinal fi eld goal just before the clock hit zeroes sent the game to
the half with the Stanford leading 23-13.
The Bruins came out fi ring in the second half, as Rosen completed
fi ve consecutive passes to get the Bruins to the Stanford 12. Three
Jamabo runs from there led to a UCLA touchdown to cut its defi cit
to 23-20.
With Stanford pinned on its own eight-yard line, the Bruins looked
poised for another shift in momentum. A 22-yard Costello pass to
JJ Arcega-Whiteside set up a 43-yard Connor Wedington run to nix
those plans, and Costello completed 15-yard pass to Trenton Irwin
for the score.
Down 30-20 near midfi eld, Christian Pabico had the ball stripped and
recovered by the Cardinal defense, setting up a 4:49 scoring drive
that culminated in a short scoring run to push the lead to 17. The
Bruins would not go away, though, as two long passes to Lasley—
including a 39-yarder for a score—put UCLA down by a 37-27 score
with the fourth quarter nearing.
A 6:18 drive ate into the clock and the Bruins’ hopes for a comeback,
as Costello eventually found Dalton Schultz for a three-yard touch-
down pass and a 44-27 lead. UCLA once again answered thanks to
a Rosen strike to Eldridge Massington at 6:59 of the fi nal quarter,
but a two-play, 70-yard Stanford drive—including a 69-yard Love
scamper—buried the Bruins.
“It’s an incredibly disappointing feeling for all of us,” UCLA coach Jim
More said. “A lot of things were going right and then all of a sudden
it goes wrong. I still believe great things will happen for us and they
will.”

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -- Isaiah Oliver returned a punt 68 yards
for a score with 5:27 remaining and No. 21 Colorado over-
came eight personal-foul penalties to beat UCLA on Thursday
night.
The game featured a combined 25 penalties for 224 yards,
two blocked kicks and fi ve turnovers -- four by Colorado.
“Couldn’t get anything going on offense and had some trouble
on special teams. That’s a good team and when that happens
it’s tough to win,” UCLA coach Jim Mora said.
The Buffaloes were called for taunting, roughing the passer,
unsportsmanlike conduct and a targeting call that led to the
ejection of outside linebacker Jimmie Gilbert early in the fi rst
quarter.
UCLA quarterback Mike Fafaul stepped in with Josh Rosen
sidelined by a shoulder injury. He fi nished 15 of 29 for 185
yards and one TD, a 39-yard pass to Darren Andrews. He also
threw an interception.
CU quarterback Sefo Liufau went a school-record 152 at-
tempts without throwing an interception before tossing two in
a span of six passes (Tahaan Goodman and Cameron Judge).
Later, the senior fumbled on a big hit by Takkarist McKinley
who had two sacks in the game.
Jayon Brown picked up the loose ball and ran 49 yards to the
CU 18-yard line, but the Bruins came away with no points
from the turnover and a total of only three points overall from
the four Buff miscues. Colorado fi nished with 304 yards of
offense but struggled to put points on the board for a second
straight game.
The Bruins were held to 25 yards rushing and now need to win
out to become bowl eligible. Both teams had kicking issues.
Rick Wade blocked one Buff fi eld goal attempt. The Bruins
missed two fi eld goals and had another blocked. It was Colo-
rado’s fi rst win over UCLA since joining the Pac-12 in 2011.
