Medicare Requirements
The requirement was to find a solution to replace an old end of life server performance reporting system (CPMS). Medicare required automated daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports of
CPU, Memory and Disk usage information.
Hurdles Install, Configuration and Implementation Bumps along the way . . .
• The system communicated through different networks and V-LAN’s in the enterprise, to be
expected in a highly secure environment. • Involving the correct network and security groups to open the appropriate firewalls resolved
these issues as well as securing proper rights for access to the accounts utilized as the main accounts for logging on to CI’s and databases.
Lessons Learned
Before You Build Do your homework . . .
• Make sure you have good knowledge of where in the Enterprise the servers will be located (networks, zones and vlans) so access between SiteScope, BSM, the Gateway and uCMDB (if used) can be opened up and verified.
• Make sure you have Domain Accounts pre-established with access to all CI’s and Databases you need access to in the Enterprise.
Successes
Goals Reached What Medicare’s UCMDB initiative achieved . . .
• Medicare retired the old unsupported CPMS system. • Medicare has since built out the UCMDB system, adding alerts and notifications for our own use and
benefit. • Medicare integrated and federated its existing UCMDB system into Sitescope, discovering that CI’s in
the Enterprise could be automatically ported over. • Medicare’s system is stable and in use every day of the week and the reports on the health of the
CI’s, performance and status remains invaluable to Medicare’s customers, clients, and Adminstrators.
