Formal and Plural Commands
Ud. (formal-singular) Commands - If you are addressing someone you don’t know well or an older person. Someone that you don’t address by first name.
Uds. (formal-plural) Commands - If you are addressing the command to more than one person.
Take the “yo” form from the Present Tense. Drop the “o” (if no “o” then irregular) Add the following endings:
-ar verbs “e” for ud./”en” for uds.-er/-ir verbs“a” for ud./”an” for uds.
Follow these steps:
¡Hablen más alto!Speak louder!
¡Escriba con lápiz!Write with pencil!
¡Traigan sus libros!Bring your books!
¡No coma sus mocos!Don’t eat your boogers!
dar de / den ir vaya / vayan saber sepa / sepan estaresté / estén ser sea / sean
-car (c-->qu)saque/saquen busque/busquen
-gar (g-->gu)pague/paguen cargue/carguen
-zar (z-->c)almuerce/almuercen empiece/empiecen
Affirmative Commands:Attach the pronoun to the end of the command.
Tráeme el libro. Bring me the book.Cómprele algo. Buy her/him something.Báñense por favor. Bathe (yourselves) please.Sentémonos aquí. Let’s sit here.
An accent mark is placed on the syllable of the verb normally stressed.
Negative Commands:Place the pronoun separately, before the command.
No me traigas el libro. Don’t bring me the book.No le compre nada. Don’t buy her/him anything.No se báñen ahora. Don’t bathe (yourselves) now.No nos sentemos aquí. Let’s not sit here.
