UDCZERO ENERGY VISTOR
CENTER
System Components• Solar Array
– Primary Power Generator– Array consists of 12 BP SX3190B Solar Modules
System Components• BP SX3190B
– 190 Watts, 24.4 Vdc– 25 year warranty
System Components
• Charge controller– Regulates charging current from the solar array to the battery– FlexMax 60 Outback Charge Controller
System Components
• FlexMax 60 Outback Charge Controllers– MPPT charge regulation can increase Array production by as
much as 30%– Extensive electronic protection against reverse polarity, high
temperature and over current
System Components
• Battery bank– Supplies a stable power source since the Solar Array current
varies by time of day and weather condition– 8A8D SLA AGM Deka Battery
System Components
• 8A8D SLA AGM Batteries– 12V 265 AH of capacity at the 20Hr rate– High capacity, reliable, durable, and deep cycle capacity for
heavy demand applications
System Components• Inverter
– Converts power stored in batteries from Direct Current (DC) to Alternating Current (AC) for use with standard equipment
– Also allows excess power generated to be sold back to the utility grid
– GVFX 3648 Outback Inverters
System Components• GVFX3648 Outback Inverter
– Simple modular design for true sine wave power
– Grid interactive or standalone capability– 2 units stacked for 120/240 VAC
System Components
Wind Power• Usually not a primary power source• Complements solar power
– Reduces depth of discharge during inclement weather– Fairly inexpensive depending on mounting option
• AIR Breeze 48vdc wind turbine
System Components• AIR Breeze 48vc
– 35Kw monthly output in 12mph avg. wind– Built in charge regulation
System Design
System Design• Off Grid/Utility Tie with Battery Back Up
– Allows for Stand Alone operation– Also allows for buying and selling power to
and from the Utility
Inspection
Inspection
• Solar Array– Check physical condition of solar modules
• Unbroken glass• Relatively clean• Straight frames with no corrosion
– Verify module frame grounding– Check mounting hardware for loose fasteners– Confirm that all module junction box covers are
present– Electrical tests
• Open circuit voltage for each module or module string• Short circuit current for each module or module string• Variations in excess of 10% should be investigated
Maintenance
Maintenance• Scheduled Maintenance
– Annual maintenance• Schedule in the fall so that the system will provide
optimum performance in the winter months
– Clean solar array if necessary• Water and mild soap are recommended• Do not use any abrasives
– Perform complete inspection• See previous section• Make adjustments or repair as necessary
