The reactor is easily constructed from locally available materials using simple tools and basic skills.

At a cost most householders can afford, it makes cutting edge bio-technology readily available to farmers in majority nations.

Six weeks ago poultry farmer Andre Fisher of Nonsuch, Portland began operating the first bio reactor in Jamaica.

Key points of operations of the bio reactor:

1. Feed fruit and vegetable scraps daily

2.Harvest the high protein feed and the liquid fertilizer by-product.

3. Clean and flush with fresh water.

4. Breed to ensure a sustainable harvest.

5. Monitor temperature and humidity manually or automatically via the internet. (See above graph as an example).

While the interest and applied technology is new, the beneficial organism, Hermetia Illucens was collected and identified in Portland, Jamaica in 1891. It safely and efficiently converts food scraps into protein, fats and calcium.

US federal agencies NOAA and the USDA released reports in 2011 stating "Insects and insect meals (e.g. soldier fly)" tied for first place as the #1 "top priority alternative feedstuffs identified to explore."

Research has been conducted in the US for decades, however Jamaica’s climate is superior, allowing for year round production in natural conditions.

Together CASE, Urban Feed Co, JOAM, and local farmers are currently collaborating in a pioneering humanitarian design effort to domestically produce sustainable, organic and high protein livestock feed.

We invite partners to join with us and provide further research, funding and administrative support for this technology to reach its full potential.

*Total fat is adjustable to desired amount within range
