I hope that you are too! I need to finish my January workshop project

PROGRAM UPDATES The FREE workshop-Sew in scheduled for February 21st has been CANCELLED due to MVQ being bumped
by the Plaistow Library and a schedule conflict. At this late time an alternative location is not possible. Ladies
can now use this day to finish up your quilt show projects at home.
-March's Workshop "Dancing with the Applique Stars" on the 21st needs additional participants by the end of
the February meeting. Because we are asking four of our members to prepare materials and spend an entire
day teaching, it has been determined we need a minimum of 12 students to hold the class. If you have a friend
who is interested, we would be very pleased to sign them up as well. Cost is $25.
April 16th Workshop "Scrap Queen Unleashed" still has seats available and we guarantee there will be lots of
laughs with Signe and some new techniques to help you use up those scraps, effectively and beautifully. Cost
is $25.
Seats are still available for Joe Cunningham class on FRIDAY, May 22nd. Basic sewing equipment and only
four yards of fabric. He'll take you comfortably out of your comfort zone and you'll have a blast. Cost is $35.
All classes must be paid in full when you sign up. Please check with Program to make sure you have paid and
are signed up.
Most of the remaining classes will be open to non-Guild members after the February meeting.
The Guild's budget and fundraising efforts which contribute to Program offerings still needs your additional
support thru workshop participation. Why not take a class, it's always a great day spent with like -minded
women, fabric, and food. And most of us either learn a thing or two or having something to share!
The Spring retreat will be March 25-29

QUILT SHOW AT GEORGETOWN LIBRARY Come to the free exhibit at the Library during February and March- Betty Hastings, Terry Pallardy, Mary Ginn, Maggie Judd and Pat Lucey have quilts in the show.
Held every year at the end of NH school vacation- Friday and Saturday- May 1st and 2nd at Timberlane Jr High in Plaistow
Quilt judging is usually done at Merrimac Library on a Wed, Carrie Zizza is coordinating.
Quilt drop-off and show set-up is Thursday,May 1st at the School. Come
early as the show is also hung that day. Members are required to give 2 hours of volunteer time either before or
during show. Many opportunities abound! Sign sheets are on the back table.
Quilt entry forms [found on blog] are to be sent in before March 31st. You can choose to have your quilt judged by a certified judge- $3:00
per quilt. Great chance to learn from a professional!
Challenge Quilts: Janice Jones is chair- make a quilt related to the Theme- “Red, White and Blue- “ A hatchet block must be included some-where. separately judged according to specific criteria- info on blog
Quilt Show ads: Members can gather an ad from a business for our booklet- can be any type of business, not just quilt related. Letter is on blog with in-fo you will need.
Publicity: Take a few bookmarks or posters- give to friends or hang in pub-lic places in your tow.- Available on back table during meetings.
Penny Raffle Table: members donate a basket, bucket, tray etc filled with
new items- either quilt related or not [tea, chocolate, gardening, teddy bear etc.] Kathy Pearse is coordinating.
Silent Auction: Members donate a handmade article to be auctioned off
during the show. 50% of proceeds goes to maker and 50% goes to Guild fund for a new loud speaker system.
White Elephant: members bring in fabric [no upholstery], patterns, but-
tons, lace, unwanted tools or unfinished quilts- 100% of proceeds to the guild.
Kitchen: Volunteers are needed to man – bake cookies to sell- donate bot-
tled water and Diet Soda to sell. Deb Zukas is chair. Boutique: An opportunity for members to sell homemade articles,pins,
bags, knit items, [quilts do not really sell], tools, books , patterns that are in
excellent condition. 20% goes to guild- maker gets 80%. Maggie Judd and Pat Lucey

This is not a difficult task to take on– It is a lot eas-
ier if two people organize it!
It usually brings close to $1000 into the guild.

since in new location a new floor plan needs to be made. Please help
us with this if you can.

Merrimack Valley Quilters General Meeting January 15, 2015 7 P.M. 51 members, one guest, and three new members; Michael Beresford, Renee Jones and Terry Taylor
were present.
Ann Hockmeyer, President called the meeting to order and announced that the New England Quilt
Museum free passes, that are given to our guild because of our annual donation, will be used as Door
Prizes at this meeting and in February. She also informed us that Sue Molin, and her art group, have
volunteered to chair the Raffle Quilt 2016-17 Committee.
Nominating Committee: Betty Dahlquist, Vice-President is seeking members for this committee, and
volunteer nominees for Board positions.
Charity T.P. Quilt Sew-In on January 31st has been moved to the Atkinson Congregational Church.
There will be another charity sew-in in February.
President’s Block: Ann has chosen the Spool Block. Directions and background fabric were made
available. Each of the members is encouraged to make one President’s Block, as a token of our appre-
ciation. The blocks will be given to our President, by our Vice-President, at the June meeting.
Raffle Quilt 2014-15 Travel: Betty Hastings reported that our Raffle Quilt will be going to the
Georgetown Library on Feb. 7th in conjunction with the reception for The Third Annual Georgetown
Quilters Exhibition.
U.F.O. Auction: Signe Kaleel and Carrie Zizza are still accepting donations of incomplete quilts, or-
phan blocks, notions, books, yarn, machines; and gift certificates for time, services, or store credit; for
the February Auction. There will be a list of Live Auction items available on the MVQ blog prior to
the meeting. Marianne Nowacki will be in charge of the Silent Auction.
Programs: Lyn Grenier informed us that there are still openings in the Sat. workshop “Attract your
Modern Side” with Amy Friend, tonight’s speaker. She also announced that the teachers for the Ap-
plique workshop in March will be Mary Ginn, Maggie Judd, Pat Lucey, and Gail Wozniak.
Mystery Bus Trip: The March 14th mystery trip has been opened to the general public, sign up soon if
you wish to participate.
Quilt Show: Helen Weymouth was notified that the Timberlane Middle School will be undergoing
construction during the time of our show. We will be able to use the High School hallways and cafete-
ria, but not their gym. Entry forms for quilts are available on the blog; please report your quilt meas-
urements accurately, and attach a 4” min. hanging sleeve. Pat Lucey explained how donations to the
Boutique and White Elephant tables are handled. Items for the Boutique need to be accompanied by a
Boutique form, also on our blog. Still being sought are a Penny Raffle Co-Chair, advertisers for the
booklet, distributors of flyers, and Silent Auction items. Bonus: We’ve been invited to place our flyers
in with the materials given to the Schoolhouse Shop Hop participants. www.schoolhouseshophop.com

Door Prizes: There were eight prizes won by eight members.
Show and Tell: There were many beautiful quilts shown.
The Monthly Raffle was shared by two members because the first winner already owned the magazine
part of the prize.
Tonight’s Program: Lyn Grenier introduced Amy Friend, of West Newbury, who showed us her
amazing quilts while explaining what made them “Modern Quilts or Contemporary Quilts”
