“That intelligent creatures exist in outer space is proven by the fact that they have notcontacted us.” - Author unknown

Forget 2012. Forget Apocalypse andArmageddon. Don't imagine thatcomets are going to wing their way inand smash us out of existence, or thatour space brothers are going to landand take pity on the human race. It'sbecoming increasingly clear that, interms of our existence (continued orotherwise), we are sadly on our own.

Sure - ET is definitely out there. We'reswimming in evidence of that. Itdoesn't matter what the establishmentsays, what your neighbour says, whatyour mother brother sister husbandniece nephew and local bottle shopowner says -- extra-terrestrials areamongst us. They have always been, and will always be. But will they everdo anything for us? Well, sorry, but theanswer seems to be a resounding NO!

Unfortunately for us, it appears thatET has been watching too manyepisodes of Star Trek, and is taking thisprime directive non-interference thingseriously. A bit too seriously. But, I ask, can't ET see that we need interference? We're not doing too well on our own. We're still fighting amongst ourselves, littering our planet, polluting the waterwe drink and the air we breathe anddrilling holes in the Earth and suckingout all her energy. WE NEED HELP! Weneed a good slap across the head, infact. And hard.

Yes yes, I know, many of you are outthere shaking your heads at my naïvetéand saying 'no, you've got it wrong,ET is helping. He (or she) is improvingus spiritually, moving us towards thenext level, guiding us towardsenlightenment and global unification.'

Excuse me, but, bah humbug! I needmore than that. WE need more thanthat! Now that we're looking at the sky, waiting for the end of the world, isn'tit time for a sign? In the manner of theVirgin Mary revealing herself to themasses in order to keep the dreamalive, the planet needs a miraculous ETrevelation. A visitation, a display of theheavenly host, an alien face in a pieceof toast.

Is that too much to ask?

July-AugusT 2012Cleveland, July 28 2012, 6.40pmI was outside last night at 6.40pmwhen I noticed a pink/orange lightin the north-east travelling slowlysouth-west. It was moving slowlyand emitting no noise. As Iwatched it a further two pink/orange lights rose up behind thefirst object, following it. Mymother and I (and our dog)watched the three balls of lighttravel slowly in a triangularformation for about five minutes, trying to work out what we werelooking at. The lead ball looked likeit could have been the headlight ofa very large plane and the two rearlights could have been on the wingsof said very large plane, such wastheir uniformity of motion as theymoved. But if there was any planethere, it would have been about25 times the size of a normal planeand invisible. Mum got bored andwent inside and I ducked in to getmy camera however, when Ireturned to the backyard a minutelater, there was no sight of them.I have a big sky where I live, on ahill near the bay, so I really don’tsee how they could havedisappeared so fast. There waslight cloud so perhaps theydisappeared into it, otherwise, judging by the speed they weretravelling and their course, I shouldhave still been able to have seenthem. There have been no reportsof this sighting from anyone elsewhich dismays me given the time.I asked at the local newsagency ifanyone had mentioned UFOs todayand the shopkeeper looked at me

like I was mad. At least my mothercan confirm I was not seeing things.

Ingle Farm (SA), July 29 2012, 7.00pmI live in Ingle Farm, a north-easternsuburb of Adelaide, and on the nightof 29/07/12 at approximately7.00pm I was in our back yardhaving a cigarette when I noticed afairly bright ‘star’ like light in thesky that was moving from the southto the north, and to our east, risingto an angle from the horizon ofapproximately 35-45 degrees. When I first noticed it, it was inthe south at an angle to the horizonof approximately 20 degrees, andway in the distance as seen lookingover the roof of our rearneighbour’s house. This objecteasily was brighter and a fair bitlarger than any star in the sky, andgave the impression of being muchcloser than a normal space satellitewould look in the sky (I have seenplenty of those and know what theylook like). I would say it was insideour atmosphere easily, possibly atthe distance away a plane wouldneed to be for you to see its flashinglights in the night sky. I hope thatmakes some kind of sense, in termsof distance. I’m finding that a littlehard to describe. If I had to guess,I’d say it was possibly over theAdelaide foothills. It was verging on a more goldencolour (or yellow) rather than theflat white colour a star usually givesoff, and it didn’t flash or anything, more like the constant ‘twinkle’ ofa star. It moved in the trajectory Imentioned, but seemed to waver

around, only slightly, but enoughfor the eyes to notice, up and downof the axis it was travelling on, ina random manner. When I firstnoticed this I thought of a “balloonwith a candle attached” like somepeople like to build and let go. Istill thought this until I saw theother lights.Anyway, I called my family to seethe first light. Two of our three pre-teen boys (ages 10 and 12) cameout and also saw the light. I guessthis means it was visual for aminute or more, in a clear part ofthe sky, before all three of uswatched as it headed towards apatch of cloud to our east, whereit dimmed slightly in the outerclouds, and then was finally blockedby the clouds. The next thing thatgot my attention was that it didnot reappear in the given time itshould have taken to travel throughthe fairly small patch of cloud, anddid not reappear on the sametrajectory at the other side. It justwasn’t there anymore, and I’d saywe waited at least a minute longerthan it should have taken. We waited perhaps 90 seconds, andour 10 year old got bored and wentinside. Then both my 12 year oldand I said ‘there’s another one’ atalmost exactly the same time. Thissecond object was very much likea satellite would look, smaller andthat typical white colour. If I hadseen this at any other time, I wouldhave just thought ‘satellite’ and notmuch else, but given what we’d justseen, it seemed to add to thestrangeness. This object was at a

Page 5: UFO Encounter 266

ufO encounter 5

much higher angle to the horizon, approximately 65-75 degrees, andmoving in the opposite direction, north to south, but still slightly toour east. As this object moved highin the sky, we both saw anotherobject of the same descriptionmoving south to north, slightlyhigher again, and seeming to bejust ‘above’ the other small object, but moving in the oppositedirection. Both had that ‘satellite’appearance and seemed to bemuch further away, but seeing allthree of these things within about2-3 minutes of each other, with the2nd and 3rd object at the sametime and so close to each other, isjust too weird.I think our 10 yr old came back outwhen we called out again as we sawthe 2nd and 3rd lights, but I can’tremember if he saw the 2nd and3rd lights. These lights were onlyvisible for a short time as the skyup higher was quite cloudy. Again, these lights seemed to not continueon their normal trajectory at thefar side of the cloud areas theyentered, they just didn’t come outthe other side. I would also like tomention that both my 12 year oldand I saw what looked like a normalshooting star in the south-east andquite high in the sky during all ofthis, but I still honestly think thatthis was just coincidence.I do like to ‘watch the skies’,admittedly, but have never had theneed to report anything like thisuntil tonight. I had two witnesses, even if they’re children, so Ithought it worth reporting tosomeone.

Mudgeeraba, Tuesday August 14 2012, nightThree objects that I thought werestars were sighted in a perfecthorizontal row over Mudgeeraba. Two started blinking a red colour. Iwatched them for about 10minutes when I returned half anhour later they had all vanished. Itwas a perfectly clear night.Indalia/Oonoonba, WednesdayAugust 15 2012, afternoonMy fiancé came home onWednesday afternoon and said he’dseen a UFO in the skies over theIdalia/Oonoonba and Railway Estatearea. He said it was white, reallywhite, and could only describe it’sshape as a hair dryer, or a p***s

shape, and that it had shiny silverthings, which on his sketch look alittle like boomerang shapes, onthe underneath of it. He wasdriving to our house and said itmoved way too fast across the skyto be a normal aircraft and histheory is ‘they’ make you secondguess what you’ve seen becauseno one wants to say they sawsomething shaped like a p***s, somaybe they’ll just say nothing atall!

Brisbane North, late August 2012My brother saw an object followinga passenger plane that appearedto split into three parts. Theobjects remained stationary in thesame position while the planecontinued heading east. Two RAAFjets were seen heading towardsthe objects which then merged andvanished. My brother was hangingthe washing at the time and waslooking up at the sky due to theheight of his cloths line.

Bray Park, Saturday August 25, 2.10amMy girlfriend and I live at Bray Parkon Brisbane’s north side. We werewoken by noisy neighbours andwere looking out of our bedroomwindow (looking toward west) tosee what the noise was about. We saw two very bright orangeobjects in the sky with very fuzzyor blurred edges. They were roundin shape and appeared not to bemoving at first. They looked to be

side by side, but were separated bysome unknown distance because itwas hard to tell how far away theywere. We first thought planes orhelicopters but they moved verydifferently. The one on the rightbegan to drop below the one on theleft, and then came up on the otherside of it. They both then startedto go what appeared to be up andtoward the western horizon. As theywent they separated and started toflash intermittently. The one on theright slowly faded out, but the oneon the left began to head east andappeared very faint giving theimpression it was very high. It keptgoing east until it disappeared. Thetime was 2.10am.

Brisbane, Thursday August 30 2012, 9.00pmI’ve just seen a series of circularlights in the sky above Brisbane andwondering what they might be. Allmy neighbours are outside trying totake photos as the lights are fillingthe night sky. (Ed’s note – thisevent was likely the laser lightsfrom the Brisbane RiverfireFestival.)

Zillmere, Thursday August 30 2012, 9.45pmWe live in Zillmere, Brisbane. Lastnight (30th August) we wentoutside before bed (approximately9:45pm) to take a look at the bluemoon. There was heaps of cloud andwe couldn’t see the moonanywhere. There was this strangelight area in one place and we

Page 6: UFO Encounter 266

ufO encounter6

thought that was the moon comingthrough so we stared at it willingthe clouds to part. The light becamestronger and stronger then splitinto 8-10 lights and started toweave and dodge in and out butvery coordinated- there was apattern to it (maybe similar to afigure eight). Sometimes the lightswould all stop and other times theywould join back to one light. Wewere talking about what it couldpossibly be when an aeroplane camethrough and the lights were gone, just like that. Then the lights came back a littlewhile after and I tried to get themon my phone by recording (earlierphoto showed very little). A reallyloud helicopter came right by andthe lights were gone once a again. The lights didn’t come back but thehelicopter did a while later. (Ed’snote – another sighting that wasmost probably the laser lightsfrom the Brisbane RiverfireFestival.)

December 31 2000, reported March 2012,location unknownI have recollections of about 14years worth of UFO sightings, whichended roughly five years ago. Theywere occurring that frequently, about two to three times a week, that I and my wife became quiteused to them, even having theopportunity to point them out toBBQ guests every now and then.We never bothered making specificnotes about times and dates andso on, because they were sofrequent.

One of them, I’m guessing aboutten or twelve years ago, wasactually as creepy as it wasspectacular, and provided abouttwenty minutes of entertainmentfor about ten of us at a New YearsParty across the road from us.We’d been there about half an hourand a mate pointed roughly northnorth-west at two big orangey/redthings and yelled to me, “hey Jim,there’s ya UFO’s”. Everyone therelaughed, me included, because thedirection we were looking was intothe flight path for jets coming intoBrisbane, so we initially jumped tothe conclusion that they were infact jets. Then it dawned on us thatthey weren’t moving. It was rainingvery heavily too, and there wereno beams coming from the lightslike you’d expect, and like we haveobserved from approaching jets inthe past, even when it’s notraining. We all watched these things forabout twenty minutes, goingthrough various theories aboutwhat they might be. The onlymovement we saw was from theone on the right which slowly moveddown a small distance beforestopping. The next morning I wasgoing over the whole thing in myhead, still perplexed and a littledisturbed when it occurred to methat I couldn’t remember how thewhole thing ended. I rememberedwe watched these things for abouttwenty minutes. I remembered weleft the party at about 11.15pm. Ihadn’t a lot to drink and neither

had anyone else, but I just couldn’tremember how it ended. I askedmy wife, who doesn’t drink at all.She got a funny look on her faceand said that she couldn’tremember how it ended either. Ithought that was a bit strange so Iwent back across the road andasked the mate who’d had theparty. He couldn’t remembereither. I ended up asking everyonewho was there, and not one couldremember how that ended. I stillget a creepy feeling every time Ithink of that. The next most spectacularoccurrence I saw was one of thesethings which came from the east.It moved slowly west toward ourplace (I was out the back having acigarette), and slowed almost to astop above the old air field at theend of our street. I was looking upat it at about a 45 degree angle. Itturned right and went the wrongway up the flight path that goesover our house. I had a ‘mag light’with me and whilst the object wasmaking its very slow turn, whichwas not an arc, but a right angle, Icontemplated flashing it at thething. I suddenly got the creepyfeeling that what ever I was lookingat was looking at me too, so Ithought better of it.We have a decent camera thesedays, so I intend keeping it readyfor any opportunities which mightcrop up. I really hope these thingsare going to return to theirfrequent visits, I really missedwatching them.

In the late 1980s, researcher Ray Grass(author of Signs of the Times), by afortuitous set of circumstances cameinto contact with a gentleman by thename of Irwin Fortman.Fortman was, at that time, theproprietor of a hardware store inCalifornia. But in 1947 he was amilitary man based at Roswell.Fortman had only recently, in 1989,learned that the world was talkingabout the famous 'Roswell Incident'and, as it turned out, he also hadmemories of that event. Except thathis memories didn't quite matcheverybody else's. The original UFOcrash incident had taken place in July, the summer of 1947. Fortman'sexperiences, however, took place inthe winter of that year, acircumstance he remembered well.Could there have been two separateincidents at Roswell? In late 1989, RayGrass interviewed Irwin Fortman in anattempt to find out.Fortman's recollections began at theRoswell barracks one night in winter,at about 1.00am, when he and someother men were woken from a soundsleep and told to get dressed andconvene in the base medical centre. The men were given coffee and thenordered to take the base ambulancessome distance out of the north gateto a place in the desert where theywere to collect some bodies.Fortman remembered that he was'completely stunned' when theyarrived at the site and begancollecting the bodies. Therewas a large circular patch ofmetallic debris over the ground, through which the bodies werescattered. To Fortman, as he setabout his grisly task, the bodiesappeared 'oriental,' yet theywere far too small to be human. He spent a lot of time ponderingthis as he worked, trying todecide what country these'people' could possibly be from.Japan, maybe? Bali? Finally, heconcluded that no race ofhumans he knew could possiblybe that small. Further, theheads of these people wereslightly larger than they shouldhave been, although Fortmansaid that he didn't consider theheads to be out of proportionto the bodies. He didn'tremember the people having

any noses on their faces, but he didremember nostrils, and teeth in theirlipless mouths. The skin wasdescribed as yellow and wrinkly, andthe heads were hairless.Only one complete body wasretrieved. The rest were broken intopieces across the field. What was ofinterest was that the broken bodieswere all wearing helmets, while theonly intact body had not been. Thatindividual had been wearing heavycloth shoes and clothing that wasdescribed as being metallic, likeflexible aluminium.Fortman remembered that the handsof the bodies were uncovered, andshaped differently to ours, butunfortunately he could not rememberhow many fingers the hands had. Itwas dark, and it is possible he didn'thave time to study them in detail, asthe men were ordered to collect thebodies swiftly and place them intobody bags. The creatures felt light asthey were loaded into theambulances, and Fortman estimatedthe complete body weighed about 80pounds (36 kilograms). The rest of thebodies were unfortunately in pieces- arms, heads, torsos, etc. There were a number of officersdirecting the proceedings, and theyhad arranged their vehicles in a circlearound the site and were directingtheir headlights into the centre of thecircle. Fortman estimated that it tookonly about 15 to 20 minutes to collect

what pieces of the bodies they couldfind and load them into theambulances. As mentioned, the bodieswere strewn through what seemed tobe the remains of a craft, and Fortmanand his fellow enlisted men werestrictly instructed not to touch any ofthe metal that littered the field, withthe officers watching on carefully toensure nobody cut themselves on theshards, and that no pieces of metalwere removed from the site.As Fortman moved among the debrishe had the impression that theobject that had crashed was circular, and that the debris field seemed tobe about a third of the size of afootball field. The metal pieces hecould see were thin, like aluminium, but seemed stiff and inflexible. Hecould see no large beams or heavypieces of metal, only pointed shardsthat they were warned by theofficers to avoid. After returning to the base, thebodies were whisked away, never tobe seen again, and the men werewarned to never speak of theincident -- under pain of death.Fortman held to that promise forforty years, although he often talkedabout and puzzled over the incidentwith one of the other men who hadhelped with the collection of thebodies. The question that remains is: wasthis incident separate to, or the sameas, the famed 'Roswell Incident'?

Fortman has clear memories ofhis initial arrival at Roswellbase, and it was after July, andnot long after the Roswellcrash had occurred. Herecalled others at the basediscussing the original incidentamong themselves, and itseems as though the securityquotient for the first incidentwas nowhere near as stringentas the security surroundingthe supposed secondincident. And, as at least sixmonths had elapsed since theJuly Roswell crash, andFortman's body retrieval tookplace shortly after Christmas1947, it does seem as though asecond unfortunate UFO-related incident must haveoccurred. But until furthercorroborating evidence isuncovered, it may be possiblethat we will never know.

During my many years of beinginvolved in UFO research andinvestigation I had the opportunityto interview witnesses to UFOsightings first hand.

I was fortunate that throughoutthe 1980’s the north of Englandwhere I live (I’m in West Yorkshire)had a lot of sightings reported tothe various active UFO groups.During that time I was part of theYorkshire UFO Society, theIndependent UFO Network and theBritish UFO Research Association.Along with colleagues, some ofwhom are sadly no longer with us,and others that are still active inUFO research, I had a greatopportunity to learn the ropes ofUFO research and investigation.

Dusting off some of my old files Iam going to look in brief at threeUFO reports that I personallyinvestigated in the mid-to-late1980’s all of which were labelled as‘unidentified’ after an investigationby myself and my colleagues at thetime. The following three caseshave never been published before.

Date: November 1985

Location: Darwen, LancashireTime: 7.30 PM.

On the night in question Mrs,Josephine Howard (pseudonym.Real name on file) was walking toher car outside her home in DarwenLancashire. Mrs Howard justhappened to look up and observedtwo round red lights in the sky. Thelights were about the size of car

headlights. Her curiosity aroused,Mrs Howard stopped to take abetter look. There were no ‘beams’coming from the lights, and as theycame overhead there was no noise.Mrs Howard described the scene:“I could not see the lights as itmoved overhead but I could see theunderneath of the object. Thisobject was very large and seemedto be very heavy looking. I keptwondering how something so bigand heavy looking could move so

slowly and not make a noise. I keptwatching and took in as much detailas I could. The object was hugeand its underneath had what lookedlike round-headed studs. Theobject moved overhead and I keptwatching it until it was almost outof sight at which point it seemedto tilt upwards and shoot off at agreat speed and was gone.”

Mrs Howard reaffirmed to me andmy fellow researcher RodneyHowarth that when passing over

the object moved very slowly butwhen moving off it was very fastindeed. The witness estimated thatshe had the object in sight for abouteight minutes in total, which is along time for UFO sightings. It wasa ‘diamond’ shape with two lightsat the front and it was totallynoiseless at all times. She estimatedthat it was 200-300 feet above herand that to the best of herknowledge no one else was aroundat the time to see this thing. Theweather conditions at the time werereported as being overcast and coolwith no wind.

Mrs Howard lived in the town ofDarwen with her husband and family, and although she was interested inUFOs she had never seen anythinglike this object before. A fullinterview was conducted by theinvestigators at the time and as aresult the case was labelled as‘unidentified’.

Date: December 1986

Location: Bonsall Moor,DerbyshireTime: 7.22 AM

Mr John Stoddard (real name) alongwith his wife and child had been on

holiday at a small cottage nearBonsall Moor. They had to get upearly in order to vacate the cottageat 10.00 am on the 31st ofDecember 1986. At around 7.22amMr Stoddard was standing outsidethe cottage simply looking at thestars. It was a bright and very clearmorning when Mr. Stoddardnoticed that one of the stars beganto move. It started to move rightin his direction from over the hillsin the distance. At this point heshouted for his wife to join himand when she did she tooconfirmed that the star was indeedmoving in their direction. By nowthe star was just above some treesat the bottom of a nearby field. Itwas still ‘star-shaped’ but had gotbigger. The witness thought it hadthree ‘fins’ at the back of it butwas not one hundred percent sure. The object came right by them andthe back end of it seemed to openup into a giant triangle with a lotof white lights all around it, butblack in the middle. The object wasmoving very slowly, no more that5-10 miles per hour, and all they

could see was this giant ‘thing’ upin the sky above the trees and itmade no sound at all. Both Mr andMrs Stoddard were excited by thissighting but a little scared at thesame time. The object movedslowly out of view over the moors.Mr Stoddard went on to inform usthat his daughter had also viewedthe object -- she stood at thedoorway of the cottage but wentback inside as she was a littlescared of it. The witness describedthe object as being the size of adouble-decker bus and he hasnever seen anything like it before.

Yet again, after an investigationby me and my colleague Dave Kellythis sighting was labelled as‘unidentified’.

Date: August 1987

Location: Rochdale, LancashireTime: 10:00 pm.

It was late August when Mr JohnDoherty (real name) was outwalking his dog in Marland nearRochdale. It was just on the fieldat the back of his house, a routinethat he had followed on manyoccasions. It was around 10:00pmand the moon was visible throughthe clouds. My Doherty regularlywalked his dog at the same timeand he often liked to look at thenight sky. Looking in a northerlydirection on this particular night, through a group of broken clouds,Mr Doherty noticed a group ofshimmering lights in the distance. The lights became bright, thendull, then bright again. This wouldoccur when they passed in and outof the clouds. These lights lookedlike ‘fireflies’ but there are no suchthings in Rochdale. The witnesseven waved his hand in front ofhis eyes just-in-case. However, within seconds these lights werenow in the sky directly above himand he soon realised that whateverthey were they were not fireflies.

Four of them broke through theclouds and he observed themclosely. They were now clearlyvisible and they were circular inshape, brightly lit, possibly rotatingwhich make them appear to‘shimmer’ and giving the edges afuzzy appearance. On theunderside of each object werethree very bright lights which didnot shimmer. These lightsappeared almost still. The lightswere so powerful that they glowedthrough the clouds, and as a resulttwo more objects were visible. Hewatched them disappear in asoutherly direction. He estimatedthe objects to be of ‘tremendoussize’ and at no time did they makeany noise at all. Mr Dohertyestimated their speed to be over100 miles per hour and were onlyin view for ten seconds or so. Theobjects appeared solid and werein a zig-zag formation. He had nointerest in the subject of UFOs andhad never seen anything like itbefore. The weather conditionsat the time were reported as dark, clear, warm with thin scatteredcloud. There was a light wind andthe moon and stars were visible.

Once again, after an investigationby me and my colleague RodneyHowarth, this case was also labelledas ‘unidentified’.

Three different witnesses fromthree different locations and threedifferent years. The one thing theydid have in common is that despiteour best efforts at the time wecould not find a rationalexplanation for any of thesightings. No aircraft, balloons ormeteorological phenomenon couldaccount for them, and this is in atime long before Chinese lanterns. All of the witnesses wereinterviewed in person andtranscripts of these interviews areon file.

There are of course somesimilarities in these sightings, themost notable one being the lack ofany noise made by the objects.Whether this is relevant orsignificant is debateable but it’s acuriosity nonetheless.

The one thing that is for certain isthat UFOs were the last thing onthe mind of any of these witnessesprior to their observations. WhatI can say is that the report madeby Mrs Howard in Darwen serves

[below] Drawing of the circular objects observed by Mr John Doherty. Drawing byMr John Doherty and taken directly from the original case report.

to illustrate that the ‘flyingtriangles/diamonds’ so widelyreported today are nothing new. Ican also add that during my timewith the Yorkshire UFO Society wehad many reports of circular objectswith three or four bright lights onthe underside, not dissimilar tothose observed by John Doherty. Andas for the strange object witnessedby Mr Stoddard and his family, I thinkit remains unique.

Of course most of the sightingsreported to me and my colleaguesdown the years can be quickly andeasily identified in conventionalterms. The three cases I havehighlighted here buck that trendand remain as unidentified in myfiles. They are nothing earthshattering and are unlikely tofeature in any books or TVdocumentaries, but they do serveas a reminder that despite our bestefforts to seriously investigate UFOsighting reports objectively, thereare still a few that at the end ofthe day leave me scratching myhead, and remain ‘UNIDENTIFIED’.

"I'm firmlyconvinced there's an agency, and thereis an effort to suppress," Halt told anaudience of 200 people Saturday nightat the Smithsonian-affiliated NationalAtomic Testing Museum. Two former Air Force officers who werepart of the infamous Project Blue Book -- the military's official UFO investigationin the 1950s and '60s -- and a formerinvestigator with Britain's Ministry ofDefense were among the panel ofspeakers for a program entitled "MilitaryUFOs: Secrets Revealed."Halt was the deputy base commanderof the RAF Bentwaters military base inEngland and one of numerouseyewitnesses to several UFO-relatedevents at Rendlesham Forest inDecember 1980. He believes theobserved UFOs were eitherextraterrestrial or extradimensional inorigin."I've heard many people say that it's time

for the government to appoint an agencyto investigate," Halt said. "Folks, there isan agency, a very close-held,compartmentalized agency that's beeninvestigating this for years, and there's avery active role played by many of ourintelligence agencies that probably don'teven know the details of what happensonce they collect the data and forward it.It's kind of scary, isn't it?"In the last couple of years, the Britishhave released a ton of information, buthas anybody ever seen what theirconclusions were or heard anythingabout Bentwaters officially? When thedocuments were released, the timeframewhen I was involved in the incident ismissing -- it's gone missing. Nothing elseis missing," he said.Halt added that he's never been harassedover the reports he made about theBentwaters UFO incidents. "Probably fora couple of good reasons. Number one,my rank and some of the jobs I've held, but also very early on, I sat down andmade a very detailed tape and madeseveral copies of everything I know aboutit and they're secluded away. Maybe I'mparanoid. I don't know, but I think it wastime well spent when I made the tapes."While the lecture panel members didn'talways see eye-to-eye on the details ofspecific UFO cases, one common threadran through them. "We share a couple ofvery important things: We've all been

dedicated to serving our country andbeen very serious about it," said museumCEO and executive director Allan Palmer, who had a distinguished career as adecorated jet fighter pilot for both theAir Force and Navy. "These are not flakypeople, who've all held very responsiblepositions with high-level securityclearances. They're not the kind of peoplewho tend to imagine things or go off ona wild tangent on something. They're veryprofessional, very business-like."Making a rare public appearance wasretired Air Force Colonel Bill Coleman, theformer chief spokesman for Project BlueBook between 1961 and 1963. Thecontroversial study ended in 1969,concluding that there was nothingabout UFOs which represented"technological developments orprinciples beyond the range of present-day scientific knowledge." Colemanrecounted his own riveting encounterwith a UFO while he piloted a B-25bomber in 1955. The unknown circularobject descended from an estimatedheight of 20,000 feet, heading to theground, when Coleman attempted topursue it."We were moving at maximumcontinuous power for the B-25, about300 miles an hour, and we got rightdown to the treetops and I closed in onit very rapidly. I zoomed upabout 1,500 feet, and then I could seethe object right on the deck over afreshly plowed field moving at a prettygood speed, and it [was trailing] twovortexes." When Coleman dove behindthe trees to try and "head him off at thepass," the UFO was gone. He said it wasa typically reported flying saucer.Coleman concluded his part of thelecture by offering a possible reason whyETs may be hesitant to visit Earth: "If analien were to land here, our commoncold could kill him. His common coldcould wipe out the population of planetEarth. If they're smart enough to build avehicle that could travel light-years oftime, they'd be smart enough to knowthat our diseases could wipe out people."During the time that Coleman was theProject Blue Book spokesman, thedirector of the Air Force study wasColonel Bob Friend. He disagreed withthe Air Force's negative conclusionsabout UFOs in 1969. "My primaryexplanation for these things is that, yes, they're real, and I think it would be muchbetter if the government or some otheragency was to take on these things andto pursue the scientific aspects of it,"Friend said.At Saturday's lecture, Friend offered anolive branch to the many people whoclaim to have seen UFOs but have beenreluctant to report them out of fear ofnot being taken seriously. "UFOsightings are real, and you will not beridiculed by any honest organizationthat investigates it. Just come forward, quote your case and allow people toinvestigate what they can to make somedetermination about what it is thatyou've seen. In the future, just rememberthat we're on your side."Nick Pope, the civilian member of the UFOpanel, acknowledged that many in theaudience came to the lectureanticipating the revelation of mind-blowing UFO evidence. "While I apologizeto those people who might be expectingor hoping for a 'spaceship in a hangar'smoking gun, what you are getting is thereal deal: an insight from people who havelooked at this mysterious and infuriatingsubject for the government," said Pope,a former UFO investigator for the UKMinistry of Defense. "The UFO subject isa field which does have its fair share ofcrackpots and charlatans and cultists. What you have this evening in a field likethat is a panel of people who indisputablyand genuinely have done this for thegovernment and the military."Pope recounted how the UK's formerofficial committee, known as the Flying

Saucer Working Party, concluded in 1951that UFOs were just misidentifications, hoaxes and delusions, and that no furthertime or effort should be wasted on thesubject. "Unfortunately for them, in 1952,there was a wave of sightingsthroughout the UK, where most of thewitnesses were Royal Air Force pilots, some of whom chased these things, andmany radar operatives tracked them,"Pope said.As the Ministry of Defense continuedinvestigating UFOs, Pope noted, theykept a close watch on the UFO"community." "We anonymouslysubscribed to their magazines:Subscription, please send to John Smith,P.O. Box 007, London -- that was us. AndI even covertly slipped into the back ofUFO conferences."Pope concluded by saying that theMinistry of Defense always had one thingon its mind about UFOs: "Whatever thenonsense you see about this subjectsometimes in the field, we never lostsight of the fact that, in all of thesehundreds of thousands of sightings, thebelievers only had to be right once, andeverything changes."Another UFO lecture panelist, retiredArmy Colonel John Alexander, was aformer military insider who convened aspecial group in the 1980s called theAdvanced Theoretical Physics Group, whose members were culled from themilitary services and the aerospace andintelligence communities. They concludedthat while there had been numerouscases of credible UFO encounters, thegroup couldn't find any evidence of anyactual government cover-up.Alexander cited a variety of intriguingUFO cases involving pilots and told theaudience that UFOs are "real and is aglobal phenomenon -- not something thatjust happens in the U.S. "We need to makeit permissible for scientists to discuss andresearch these topics. ... There are nosimple answers, and not only do we nothave the answers, we're not at the pointof asking the right questions yet, andthat's what we need to do."

have been many --there have been noconfirmations fromthe US side, thoughthe ships have beenseen by every vesselthat makes it

The true nature of both thethreat and the extent of the multinationalmilitary force used is beyond anyimaginable classification level.Rumours:- Extraterrestrial craft are operating fromunderwater bases.- Advanced US sub-orbital weaponsplatforms represented as "tested" haveactually been deployed fromVandenburg Air Force Base. These arearmed with energy weapons.- UFO tracking has been moved fromconventional to nano-technology withmicroscopic sensors being used to detectbehaviors such as dimensional rifts anddistortions in time, things only discussedin TV shows like Fringe and X Files. The actual classified memo on very shortdistribution mentions only the following:- Opposition is extraterrestrial andextremely aggressive and unfriendly- The threat represents a "clear andpresent danger" and is isolated to thePacific Basin- China is forced to carry US responsibilitybecause our own naval capability issitting in the Persian Gulf when Americais under a very real threat.- Attempts to seek confirmations or todirectly verify these operations will leadto fatal consequences. Our confirmations limit us to thisresponse which I have chosen torepresent in a highly deniable form outof personal interest. Others in the UShave better information and sources andhave been silenced with warnings only. For several months earlier this year, therehad been disclosures tied to the UFOissue. One real sighting had been madeover South Korea. After that, the internethad been flooded, yes, Google's"YouTube" with manufactured phonyUFO videos, some of "beyond nextgeneration" quality. All information given on how UFO videoor photos are analyzed is totally false, childishly so, especially that from the UFO"networks." They are professionally "selfdiscrediting."About six weeks ago, a "study group"was appointed out of NATO and anotherone in Asia to look at the pattern of UFOvideos. A decision was made toaggressively investigate one or moregroups.

Being aggressively investigated on suchan issue is not recommended. My suggestion is that readers followother stories for verifications orinformation that would help in some way,add it to the comment section and see ifwe can get a better grip on what maywell be an extremely dangerous situation.I have had one implied threat, which isalmost laughable as I am a board memberof a multinational defense firm larger thanmost armies. Mr Pope, whose job it wasto advise on the threat posed by otherlife forms, said that in the event of anattack he expected that we would"quickly adapt our plans for other morecurrent war scenarios."At present, he said, there was no specialorganisation like Torchwood, the alien-hunting team from the BBC sciencefiction series of the same name, but hesaid he was sure that in the event ofattack an operation could be set upquickly and efficiently. World nationswould probably pool their technologytogether like in films such asIndependence Day.Mr Pope said: "We do have severalprototype aircraft and drones and otherweapons you won't see on the news foranother 10-15 years so if we did face athreat from the unknown then even ifthere is no Torchwood around now, therewould be something like it by then andthey certainly would have some great kitto help in the fight." He said: "Look at theTaranis, which is a prototype made byBAE Systems. It looks for all the world likea spaceship in the hanger."So are aliens a threat? The officialgovernment position is that UFOs offer"no significant defence threat". However,Mr Pope said what that really means isthat "we don't know"."My colleagues and I said, whatever our

official position - the one we gave to thepublic, media or parliament, - privately, where five per cent of UFO sightingsremained unexplained, at the very leastthere has to be a potential threat. Onepossibility would be trying to unite allthe nations of the world. For those whothink that far-fetched, Ronald Reaganonce hinted at it in a speech to the UN.He said 'I occasionally think how quicklywe would set aside our difference if wefaced some alien threat from the otherside.'"So why is the government looking atUFO sightings? "Between 1991 and1994, my job at the MoD was toinvestigate the 200-300 reportedsightings of UFOs in the UK each year tosee if there was evidence of a potentialthreat or something of general defenceinterest. One of the things that wasinteresting was that when peoplereported seeing UFOs these things werecapable of extraordinary manoeuvresand speeds. They were much faster thanour military jets so we wanted to findout about the technology and if wecould find it useful. Defence scientistswere very interested in the fact theymight have some kind of exoticpropulsion system."So do aliens really exist? "I am absolutelyconvinced that elsewhere in theuniverse there must be other life and Iam also convinced that some of that isgoing to be intelligent. I am open-mindedabout the possibility that some of thatlife is visiting us down here but just asour space programme is reaching outto find out what is out there, it seemsother life forms could be motivated bythe same thing. One of the things beingdiscussed at the Royal Society is that

Page 15: UFO Encounter 266

we could be dealing with artificial life - apost-biological universe of cyborgs androbots. I suspect there are thousandsand millions of civilisations out there. Weall hope it's just going to be ET-style fluffyaliens as opposed to a terrifying alieninvasion. The believers only have to beright once."

Among the Mars rover Curiosity's manygadgets and gizmos is a weather station, and since landing it has been showingsome surprising numbers: Temperaturesthat are as high as 6 degrees Celsius (42.8degrees Fahrenheit). That's substantiallywarmer than expected. The temperatureson Mars' surface are dramatically

different during theday and during thenight, when theydrop to a frigid -70degrees Celsius. That's because Marshas a very thinatmosphere, so heat from the sunescapes after it sets.

The rover is currently located in thesouthern hemisphere of the planet, where it is springtime. That meanssummer is coming, and with it, potentiallyeven warmer temperatures. "That we areseeing temperatures this warm alreadyduring the day is a surprise," said FelipeGómez of the Centro de Astrobiología inMadrid, which runs the rover's weatherstation, called the Rover EnvironmentalMonitoring Station, or REMS, in astatement Friday. "If this warm trendcarries on into summer, we might evenbe able to foresee temperatures in the20s - and that would be really excitingfrom a habitability point of view. In thedaytimes, we could see temperatureshigh enough for liquid water on a regularbasis."Gómez says it is too early to knowwhether they are observing a real trendor just a "blip." But for now, the data aregiving the Mars rover team reason totake a break from shooting lasers atrocks and crafting painstaking coursesacross the planet's surface to dosomething much more pedestrian: chit-chat about the weather.

(Reuters) - When scientists selected arock to test the Mars rover Curiosity'slaser, they expected it to contain thesame minerals as rocks found elsewhereon the Red Planet, but learned instead itwas more similar to a rock found onEarth. The rock was chemically more akinto an unusual type of rock found onoceanic islands like Hawaii and St. Helena,as well as in continental rift zones likethe Rio Grande, which extends fromColorado to Chihuahua, Mexico.

"It was a bit of a surprise, what we foundwith this rock," Curiosity scientist RalfGellert of the University of Guelph inOntario, Canada, told reporters on aconference call Thursday. "It's igneous,"Gellert said, referring to rock formedfrom molten material. "But it seems to bea new kind of rock type that weencountered on Mars."

2012-09-22/news/os-nasa-space-outpost-20120922_1_moon-rocks-space-launch-system-nasa-chief-charlie-boldenTop NASA officials have picked a leadingcandidate for the agency's next majormission: construction of a new outpostthat would send astronauts farther fromEarth than at any time in history. The so-called "gateway spacecraft"would hover in orbit on the far side ofthe moon, support a small astronautcrew and function as a staging area forfuture missions to the moon and Mars.At 277,000 miles from Earth, the outpostwould be far more remote than thecurrent space station, which orbits alittle more than 200 miles above Earth. The distance raises complex questionsof how to protect astronauts from theradiation of deep space - and rescuethem if something goes wrong.Documents obtained by the OrlandoSentinel show that NASA wants to build asmall outpost - likely with parts left overfrom the $100 billion International SpaceStation - at what's known as the Earth-Moon Lagrange Point 2, a spot about38,000 miles from the moon and 277,000miles from Earth. At that location, thecombined gravities of the Earth and moonreach equilibrium, making it possible to"stick" an outpost there with minimalpower required to keep it in place. To get there, NASA would use themassive rocket and space capsule thatit is developing as a successor to theretired space shuttle. A first flight of thatrocket is planned for 2017, andconstruction of the outpost wouldbegin two years later, according toNASA planning documents. Potentialmissions include the study of nearbyasteroids or dispatching robotic trips tothe moon that would gather moonrocks and bring them back toastronauts at the outpost. The outpostalso would lay the groundwork formore-ambitious trips to Mars' moonsand even Mars itself, about 140 millionmiles away on average. From NASA's perspective, the outpostsolves several problems. It gives purposeto the Orion space capsule and theSpace Launch System rocket, which arebeing developed at a cost of about $3billion annually. It involves NASA'sinternational partners, as blueprints forthe outpost suggest using a Russian-built module and components from Italy. And the outpost would represent a

baby step toward NASA's ultimate goal:human footprints on Mars. But how the idea - and cost - play withPresident Barack Obama, Congress andthe public remains a major question. Theprice tag is never mentioned in the NASAreport. Spending is being slashed across thefederal government in the name of deficitreduction; it's unlikely that NASA in comingyears can get more than its current budgetof $17.7 billion - if that. The planningdocuments indicate the outpost is possibleonly with "modest increases" to the currentbudget - and that presumes none of thecost overruns that have characterizedrecent NASA projects. Indeed, the firstconstruction flight in 2019 is labeled"unfunded" in briefing charts, as is a robotic"sample return" moon mission in 2022.One NASA supporter in Congress - U.S. Rep.Bill Posey, R-Rockledge - said he liked theidea. But he said it would require strongWhite House backing to convinceCongress to finance it. NASA funding"always has been very precarious," Poseysaid. "And money is going to get tighter."The White House did not respond to arequest for comment, and a NASAstatement was noncommittal about theoutpost. "There are many options - andmany routes - being discussed on our wayto the Red Planet," said spokesman DavidWeaver. "In addition to the moon and anasteroid, other options may be consideredas we look for ways to buy down risk - andmake it easier - to get to Mars.A second major concern is astronautsafety. It will take days to get to the outpost- the farthest NASA has flown humanssince the moon missions of 40 years ago -making rescue and supply missionsdifficult. The planning documents areunclear on whether astronauts would bepermanently stationed at the outpost orthere part time.Another concern is how NASA intends toaddress the dangers of deep space, especially radiation. The outpost would bemore vulnerable to space radiationbecause it would be largely beyond theprotective shield of Earth's magnetic field, said scientists with the National SpaceBiomedical Research Institute.

Thequake, caused by an unprecedentedquadruple-fault rupture, gave Earth'scrustal mosaic such a shock that it

unleashed quakes around the worldnearly a week later."We've never seen an earthquake likethis," Keith Koper, a geophysicist at theUniversity of Utah in the US, said."Nobody was anticipating anearthquake of this size and type, andthe complexity of the faulting surprisedeverybody I've spoken to about this,"said Thorne Lay, a planetary sciencesprofessor at the University of California,Santa Cruz. The quake occurred about 500km westof Sumatra, in the middle of the Indo-Australian plate. It was the biggest"strike-slip" earthquake ever recorded, meaning a fault that opens laterallyrather than up or down, and wasfollowed two hours later by an 8.2quake.Taking a scalpel to what happened thatday, seismologists believe there was anear-simultaneous rupturing of at leastfour faults, stacked up and lying at rightangles to one another. They rippedopen one by one, all within 160 seconds.Even more remarkable, though, waswhere the event took place. It occurrednowhere near a boundary between theplates that, like a jigsaw puzzle, compriseEarth's crust. Instead, it occurred in theheart of the Indo-Australian plate, tearing a gash up to 40m wide andconfirming long-held suspicions theplate is fragmenting.According to this theory, the processbegan roughly millions of years ago,and is caused by a pulling-apart of theplate: the western part is colliding withAsia, which stops its movement, whilethe eastern part is gliding beneathSumatra. "It will take millions of years toform a new plate boundary and, mostlikely, it will take thousands of similarlarge quakes for that to happen," DrKoper said.

On land the crust can beup to about 30 miles thick. The drilling will be performed by aJapanese deep-sea drilling vessel, Chikyu(above), which set a world-record for thedeepest hole - 6,926 feet below theseafloor - in September. interacted with commonly used industrialradio applications. They found that all threedesigns actually amplified mind controlradio waves, suggesting that the tinfoil hatmeme might be a false-flag operationengineered to trick the suspicious intomaking it easier to beam messages intotheir skulls."Among a fringe community of paranoids, aluminium helmets serve as the protectivemeasure of choice against invasive radiosignals. We investigated the efficacy ofthree aluminium helmet designs on asample group of four individuals. Using a$250,000 network analyser, we found thatalthough on average all helmets attenuateinvasive radio frequencies in eitherdirections (either emanating from anoutside source, or emanating from thecranium of the subject), certainfrequencies are in fact greatly amplified. These amplified frequencies coincide withradio bands reserved for government useaccording to the Federal CommunicationCommission (FCC). Statistical evidencesuggests the use of helmets may in factenhance the government's invasiveabilities. We speculate that thegovernment may in fact have started thehelmet craze for this reason."

The terrific impact caused theEarth to spin so fast that a day lasted onlytwo to three hours, allowing megatons ofdebris to spin off into space. This planetarywreckage then solidified into a disk that

would form ourmoon, accordingto SETI researchers. The young Earth,or proto-Earth, andthe impactor thatcrash-tackled it were approximatelyequal in size, claims another new studyalso supporting the planetary impacttheory. "This type of impact has notbeen advocated for the Earth-moonbefore," said Robin Canup, of theSouthwest Research Institute in aninterview with Space.com. "[However],a similar type of collision has beeninvoked for the origin of the Pluto-Charon pair," she added, referring toPluto's largest moon. The SETI finding, that a fast-spinningearth likely threw off planetary chunkswhich formed the moon, plugs a holein earlier theories of the moon's birth. Itwas previously thought that the moonmust have been formed by portions ofthe impactor planet, a puzzlingconundrum for scientists who knewhow close the moon's compositionwas to Earth's.Taken together, the discoveries takescientists one giant leap closer touncovering the origins of our moon, amystery 4.5 billion years old.(Ed's note - readers who are fans ofZecheriah Sitchin will know that this isnot a new theory, that this is in fact howthe ancient Sumerians always said ourmoon was formed. As usual, science istaking its time to catch up…)

WHY AREWHY AREWHY AREWHY AREWHY AREFREEMASONSFREEMASONSFREEMASONSFREEMASONSFREEMASONSCOLLECTING DNA?COLLECTING DNA?COLLECTING DNA?COLLECTING DNA?COLLECTING DNA?http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/amy-macpherson/freemason_b_1906521.htmlConspiracy theorists need theorize nomore. In pages from a fiction novelbrought to life, the strangest twists inpopular folklore have been windingthrough our government corridors.Fabled as a secret society, Freemasonssee themselves as an esoteric fraternity;an ancient brotherhood of initiates whoare voted into membership for thepurpose of sharing enlightenmentthrough the use of exclusive teachings. They are not a religious group and yetelevated status can be obtained throughinvitation to the various esteemed Ritesand the legendary Knights Templar. Thatfull proper title is The United Religious,Military and Masonic Orders of theTemple and of St. John of Jerusalem,Palestine, Rhodes and Malta. It is argued they find their roots in anhistorical Christian militia, which onceupon a time nearly bankrupted theVatican. Despite an effort to distancethemselves from politics and religion inmodern times, Scandinavian branches tothis day will only permit entry of fellowChristian worshippers. Women remainforbidden although there's good newsfor slaves and the disabled -- who mayhave overcome discrimination after athousand years of human rights

progression. On the Grand Lodge of Canada website, they continue to affirm this illusive aurawith statements like the following:"Freemasonry is a fraternal association ofmen of good and high ideals but it is not apublic association. "Private" is a moreappropriate description than "secret" andas with many organizations, certaininformation is reserved for members only."So why then is an exclusive groupcollecting our children's DNA, withsupport of police and the governmentacross the USA and Canada? You know them as MasoniChip, or perhapsyou've been led to believe it was a stateand provincial endeavor intended toprotect your little ones. They set up fairs, forge partnerships with law enforcementand even strive to distribute their servicesthrough North American public schoolsystems. In Massachusetts this Freemason programwas promoted by CBS News from thesteps of the official State House andincluded their police dog, coincidentallynamed Mason. Reporters only failed tomention the private nod to thosepromoting him or that government hadlittle to do with it.What is MasoniChip you ask? It begins onthe surface as a child identification project,in case your loved ones are ever to behorrendously abducted. Parents arefamiliar with at-home kits to record theirkids' vital information, for protectionagainst the greatest of all fears to beinflicted on a family. Normally height, weight, hair and eye colour are recorded, along with a set of fingerprints andhopefully a current photograph. It's justthe good folks at your local MasonicLodge saw fit to take things further. With advances in technology, they beganto offer digital fingerprints, digital imaging, digital video, dental impressions and DNAmouth swabs. This data processing ismanaged by their proprietary softwarethat's designed to be compatible with localand national law enforcement. This is afterall, a campaign created by police in thebrotherhood regardless of its privatefunding.A great distinction is made to ensure

governments are nothing more thantheir supporters. Freemasons assertownership of this project as an integralpart of their mission statement. Theyclaim their services are superior to whata parent could accomplish at home, byrecording the children's datapersonally and providing their own"health care professionals" to collecttheir DNA samples. These are either hired hands whoanswer to the Freemasons or membersof the fraternity whose history andcredentials are protected by theorganization. There is no way toguarantee what happens behindclosed doors and although they claimto delete sensitive information (theCanadian website states "Noinformation is ever stored by theMasoniChIP program"), any computersavvy person knows that clicking an"x" isn't permanent unless you formatthe entire system.Parents are asked to trust an intriguing, private fraternity; to ensure that qualitystandards are met and family privacy islegally respected without any kind ofoversight. Because Freemasons fund100 per cent of the initiative, there is noopportunity to discuss issuesregarding data ownership or how theyfeel about those technicalities in theprivacy of their meetings. When it comes to the little people we'ddo anything to protect them, butperhaps their families might give sobersecond thought to what exactly they'resigning in a contract with Freemasons. This DNA collection program is plannedto be extended to the disabledcommunity and seniors, but whobenefits when it's inadmissible to acertified registry of any sort? And why is the face of governmentthrough public schools or policethrough public events, being placed onan effort from private organizations tomislead parents? Sharing one'sfingerprints and biometrics is a seriousdecision. For public safety we mustinsist that brokers of such eventsbecome transparent and regulated.
