Tone woods play a vital role in the construction of the ukulele top or soundboard, which amplifies and gives character to the transmitted vibrations of the strings.

MAHOGANY:

Mahogany gives good responsiveness, though less than the spruces and cedars, and gives a tonal balance more voluminous in the mid and higher ranges, as well as higher dynamics. Overall, it has a warmer overtone quality than the spruces and cedars.

KOA:

This exotic wood is native to Hawaii and is known for its rich, meaty warm tone

SPRUCE:

Spruce wood has one of the fastest sound velocities, the rate at which sound waves are able to travel through it, thereby making it one of the most responsive woods for uke soundboards.
