Orientation Information TableMoody Hall LobbyThroughout Orientation, we will have the Orientation Information Table available to answer your questions. While you will be escorted to all sessions, if you get lost or have any concerns, please let us help you.
WaterWe will be doing a lot of walking today. Please keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Orientation Lost & FoundWe will have an Orientation Lost & Found at the Orientation Information Table. If you find a lost object, please drop it off. The Office of Orientation is not responsible for items you misplace during your stay.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
8:00 AM – 9:15 AM Parent Check-In Earl K. Long Gym 8:00 AM – 9:15 AM Campus Resources Fair Earl K. Long Gym Students & Parents are encouraged to visit with representatives from our various campus
offices to learn more about the services they offer.
9:15 AM – 9:45 AM Welcome to University of Louisiana at Lafayette Hamilton Hall 108 Students and Parents will be welcomed to the university by members of our Student
Orientation Staff, university administration, and provided an overview of the day’s schedule of events.
10:00 AM – 10:45 AM College Years: Straight Talk for Parents Moody Hall 120 A Parents’ Guide to Understanding the College Years. Learn about the transition to college
and the ways that parents can support students through the predictable ups and downs of the first year.
10:45 AM – 11:00 AM University Master Plan Moody Hall room 120 A comprehensive plan arose in the spring of 2013 from a vision to improve the University
of Louisiana at Lafayette’s environment and make it one of the most comfortable and inspiring academic institutions in America. The plan will help to build a stronger sense of community, improve the quality of life on and around campus, enhance safety and sustainability efforts, and foster opportunities for economic development. In this session, learn how your student will directly benefit from the university’s master plan.
11:00 AM – 11:45 AM Lunch Guillory Hall Enjoy lunch in our cafeteria.
11:45 AM – 12:15 PM Life Outside the Classroom: University Resources and Student Affairs Moody Hall 120 This is an exciting time for your students and we are ready to assist in their transition.
Join the Dean of Students to learn about resources and services available to aid in your students’ success outside the classroom.
12:15 PM – 12:45 PM Understanding Academic Course Placement & Advising Moody Hall 120 This session will address important concerns parents have about the academic curriculum,
academic advising structure, and course registration process. We will provide you helpful insights on how to support your student and our university in meeting degree requirements.
12:45 – 1:15 PM AND 1:20 – 1:50 PM Student Success Information Sessions Interest Sessions are offered concurrently. Please select two of the Interest Sessions
below to attend. Following the Interest Sessions, please return to Moody Hall room 120.
Money Matters Moody Hall 103A This session is required for all orientation participants receiving TOPS or any form of
financial aid, grants, or loans. You will receive TOPS and financial aid program requirements and learn how your money will get credited to your account.
Campus Involvement: Student Organizations & Greek Life Moody Hall 120 Campus involvement is critically important to your success as a student. Come learn about
the many ways to be involved through our 200+ student organizations or through one of our 20 sororities and fraternities.
Safety and Security Moody Hall 121 University Police will present information regarding safety on campus. Details will be
discussed regarding the University Emergency Notification System and other safety programs that the University offers students.
Career Planning for Success Moody Hall 122 Learn how the Career Counseling Center and Career Services can help you with all
aspects of your career journey throughout your years at UL Lafayette. Let us guide you with services such as information on majors, career testing, career planning and job seeking strategies for your successful future.
Parking and Transit Moody Hall 123 The Office of Transportation Services will discuss parking and transit opportunities on
campus. The presentation will include shuttle services for commuter students, pay parking lots, residential parking and evening shuttle options. Bicycle safety and registration information will also be available.
Honors Student Orientation Meeting Judice-Rickels Hall Students invited into or interested in the Honors Program should attend this meeting with
members of the Honors Program staff.
2:00 – 2:30 PM Business Services: A Look at Tuition and Fees Moody Hall 120 Learn tuition and fee payment deadlines, methods of payment, dates when scholarship
and financial aid money is posted on the student account, payment plan options, and other services from Business Services and Student Cashiers Center.
2:30 PM – 3:00 PM Cajun Card Moody Hall 120 Come learn about your student’s Cajun Card. This session will include discussions on
Cajun Cash, card access, cardholder responsibilities, and card dining options. If you are interested in a safe and more convenient way of student purchases on and off campus, come join us!
3:00 PM Campus Tour 3:30 PM Departs Moody Hall Lobby4:00 PM Students & Parents who want to participate in a guided campus tour can meet with members 4:30 PM of our Student Orientation Staff. This tour will provide an overview of the physical space on campus and may assist you with locating your classes following registration.
OPTIONAL AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES
Financial AidConference Center Lobby, 1:00 – 4:30 PMIf your student has already submitted their FAFSA, they may meet with a financial aid counselor to learn about the next steps in the financial aid process.
Scholarship OfficeMartin Hall, Room 260Students who have received or will be receiving any scholarships from the university or external sources should visit the Scholarships Office to ensure that all their information is on file and verify requirements for maintaining their scholarships.
Office of Disability ServicesConference Center, Room 126Students who have a documented disability or will need assistance when they come to campus, should be sure to stop by the Office of Disability Services.
Housing QuestionsBuchanan Hall, 2nd floorIf you have questions about housing options, on-campus housing, or wish to take a tour of our on-campus housing facilities, please visit the UL Department of Housing to speak to a member of their staff.
