This scan can help accurately assess paents with minimal fibrosis or with severe fibrosis/cirrhosis. Several new medicaons have been made available on the PBS for the treatment of paents with Hepas C. These medicaons enable GPs to effecvely treat and manage affected paents to minimise liver damage. Elastography of the liver can be referred for both the inial assessment of disease (baseline) and monitoring of response to treatment (progression/ response). An Elastography Ultrasound scan is Medicare rebated. It can be referred by both GPs and Specialists. Elastography is used for the inial assessment and ongoing management of paents with: + Hepas B + Hepas C + Chronic liver disease + Liver fibrosis + History of heavy alcohol use/abuse + Potenal cirrhosis from non-alcoholic fay liver disease. The referring clinician should request “Liver Elasto” - one of the clinical indicaons above should be detailed on the referral form. Paent Preparaon - Standard preparaon for an Upper Abdominal Ultrasound. Paents are required to fast for 6 hours prior to the exam.
