FINALLY, WORLD-CLASS TRAINING IS NOW BEING OFFERED AT A WORLD-CLASS DESTINATION
Spend a few days on the sugar white sands of the Gulf of Mexico with your family while attending a personalized ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia preceptorship at the Andrews Institute. This program offers an opportunity to observe ultrasound-guided techniques with a hands-on, two-day experience. Immerse yourself in a high-volume, orthopaedic ambulatory surgery center alongside Andrews Institute’s medical director, Dr. Gregory Hickman, and regional anesthesia fellowship director, Dr. Scott Thomas. Learn a broad array of ultrasound techniques perfected during Dr. Hickman’s 25+ years of regional anesthesia experience and Dr. Thomas’ regional anesthesia fellowship at Andrews Institute and his six years of practice in the Carolinas.
WHY NOT THE BEST?Your experience will place you at the center of activity at this prestigious institute. The Andrews Institute attracts athletes from around the globe, including NFL, NBA, and MLB professionals. This preceptorship offers a unique opportunity to learn from the best physicians.
While you advance your career, your family will enjoy a mini-vacation on beautiful Pensacola Beach. This is a family-friendly destination offering a world-class beach experience. Hotel and condominium packages are available and preceptorships are limited to one to three doctors per session.
PRECEPTORSHIP OBJECTIVESThe objectives of the preceptorship include:
1) Explain and improve global regional anesthesia knowledge with didactics reviewing ultrasound basics, peripheral vascular and neuro-sonoanatomy, and specific ultrasound-guided regional blocks.2) Discuss and teach step-by-step procedural techniques through observation of ultrasound-guided blocks including interscalene, supraclavicular, infraclavicular, axillary, femoral, adductor canal, popliteal, saphenous, and TAP. 3) Identify the appropriate evidence-based nerve blocks and continuous catheter techniques for specific surgical procedures, and increase the utilization of these blocks in daily practice.4) Identify with ultrasound the key anatomic landmarks and targets for performing every common peripheral nerve block.

OVERVIEWThe Andrews Institute Ambulatory Surgery Center is a beautifully constructed 26,000 square foot medical pavilion, which includes digital operating rooms with multi-specialty surgical capabilities. Sixty-five percent of the surgical procedures performed at AI are orthopaedic, and the vast majority of orthopaedic patients receive a regional anesthetic as part of their comprehensive perioperative care. Since the opening of the Andrews Institute in 2007, our anesthesiologists have done over 30,000 ultrasound guided regional anesthetics with about 40 percent of those being continuous catheters. Common blocks performed at Andrews include interscalene, supraclavicular, infraclavicular, axillary, popliteal, femoral, adductor canal, saphenous, and TAP. Because our USRA preceptorship courses are held on the busiest block days, there is an incredible opportunity for visiting physicians to witness a vast number of blocks while interacting with the experts as they perform these procedures.
