Advantages of UMB

• Compact design for real-time weather stations

• Easy to assemble

• Easy to install, easy commissioning

• one software-protocol for all devices

• one hardware-interface for all devices

• One industrial power supply (24VDC) for all devices; UMB modules and (heated) sensors

• All components for DIN-rail assembly with bus-connector

• Firmware-Update via RS232 or RS485

• one software-Tool for all sensors (commissioning and FAT test)

UMB-technology

Page 3: Umb E 2009 2010

WS600-UMB

Innovative method: R²S microwaves–doppler radar

Precipitation type (rain, snow) / precipitation intensity (mm/h)

Measurement of wind speed and wind direction

By ultrasonic sensors. Very precise, low start-up value, maintenance-free

Air pressure sensor

Measurement of air temperature and rel. humidity

Including ventilated/aspirated radiation shield

Data transmission and power supply in one cable

RS485-interface up to 1200m

Digital communication of data via open ASCII or UMB protocol

(SDI12 coming soon)

UMB sensors

Page 4: Umb E 2009 2010

R2S Microwaves-doppler radar principle = Present Weather Detector

24 GHz microwaves-dopplerradar measures precipitation type and precipitation intensity by correlation of drop size and drop speed

Examples of distribution on drop size and drop speed at different precipitation types

rain snow

UMB sensors

Page 5: Umb E 2009 2010

IRS31-UMB Intelligent Road Sensor

Road surface temperature, optionally two extra subsurface temperatures (e.g. -5cm and -30 cm)

Water film measurement up to 4mm by microwaves radar sensor - resolution: 0,01 mm- accuracy: 0,1 mm + 20%

Passive salt concentrations- and freeze point temperature measurement by measuring the conductivity dependent on water film height

Road condition detection dry, damp/humid, wet, ice, snow (critical), critical wetness

Digital data communication as standard protocol (Lufft-UMB-protocol)

Maintenance-friendly, exchangeable electronics

UMB sensors

Page 6: Umb E 2009 2010

Eutectical point

Each measurement of the freeze point temperature depends on salt concentration AND existing water film.

The more water on the surface the higher the salt concentration to bring down the freeze point. Vice versa, in case of declining roads, there is a high risk of oversalting the road.

In this case, the EUTECTICAL POINT is exceeded, the corresponding result is ice formation.

ARS31-UMB Active Road sensor

Measurement of salt concentration and freeze point temperature by active cooling and heating of the sensor surface.

Maintenance-friendly, exchangeable electronics

digital data communication via standard protocol (Lufft-UMB-protocol)

Recommendation: A combination of passive IRS31-UMB and aktive ARS31-UMB.
