Creating 2017 Community Quilt

All students are invited to participate in an Essay Contest
Topic: “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All”
• This contest consists of two levels:
First group: Middle school (6-8 grades), Second group: High school (9-12
grades)
• The top three winners in each group will be awarded a gift card and a certificate.
• The First position winner in each group will be asked to read their essay during the International Peace Day Celebration on September 23, 2017.
• Rules: 200 word typed essay. Fill out form below with all information and
email or send it to address below.
• Deadline: All entries must be submitted by Monday, September 18th, 2017.

• The HRC has sponsored events over the years, including the an-nual observance of Martin Lu-ther King Jr. Day and the Annual International Day of Peace.
• HRC has also organized other in-formational events such as: do-mestic awareness programs, cul-tural & musical events and par-ticipating in the annual National Night Out. These events were organized in partnership with lo-cal community organizations and businesses.
• Appointed by the Mayor, the HRC consists of twelve commu-nity members, including one student member.

International Day of Peace
Around the world, International Day of Peace is observed every year on September 21th and is "...a day de-
voted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations' people." UN General As-
sembly Resolution 36/37,
On this day, HRC hosts; speakers dis-
cussing aspects of peace initiatives,
performances by local students, the
results of an essay contest open to
middle and high school students to
address topics relating to how to
achieve world peace.
West Windsor Cultural Diversity Day
New in 2017: HRC is initiating
a “West Windsor Cultural Di-
versity Day” which will be
held annually in May here in
West Windsor.
As a community, we can gath-
er to celebrate through mu-
sic, songs, and dance.
