The UNC Department of Ophthalmology is proud to announce the 2020 UNC Eye Symposium with Technician Continuing Education Session, sponsored by the UNC School of Medicine. The Symposium will be held on Saturday April 4, 2020 at the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education in Chapel Hill, NC and our faculty will be joined by six nationally recognized guest speakers.

The UNC Eye Symposium comprises two sessions running concurrently, the Physician Session and the Technician Session. Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit is made available for the Physician Session by the UNC School of Medicine, while CE credit for the Technician Session will be sponsored by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO). COURSE DESCRIPTIONThe UNC Eye Symposium will provide the latest updates and insights in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders including anterior segment, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, oculoplastics, and pediatric ophthalmology.

TARGET AUDIENCEThis conference is designated for Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Ophthalmic Technicians and Photographers.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVESThe information presented at this educational activity should increase attendees’ ability to:

1. Identify patients who are good candidates for new medical therapy for Graves Ophthalmopathy 2. Describe the current treatment paradigm used for childhood glaucomas 3. Explain the correct use of nutritional supplements to prevent the progression and vision loss associated with age-related macular degeneration 4. Identify the best surgical option for specific glaucoma patients based on available clinical trial evidence 5. Determine the best minor and office surgical procedure for ocular surface diseases

ACCREDITATIONThe School of Medicine of the University of North Carolina is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Continuing education credits have been approved by the NC Board of Optometry for the Physician’s Session. The UNC Department of Ophthalmology is accredited by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) to provide continuing education credit to Allied Health personnel who attend the Technician Session. CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITPhysician SessionThe School of Medicine of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Receipt of credit is contingent upon completion of an electronic evaluation within 14 days after completion of the course. More information on this requirement will be available at the meeting.

Technician SessionThe Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.0 Group A credit(s), and 1.75 credits are also available from the Ophthalmic Photographers Society (OPS). Allied Health personnel should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Receipt of credit is contingent upon completion of an electronic evaluation within 14 days after completion of the course. More information on this requirement will be made available at the meeting.

DISCLOSURESThis activity has been planned and implemented under the sole supervision of the course director in association with the UNC Office of Continuing Professional Development (UNC CPD). Dr. Budenz receives consulting fees from iView Therapeutics, Santen, and Nicox. Dr. Rapuano has stock or stock options in Avedro, receives speaking fees from Avedro, Bio-Tissue, Dompe, and Shire, and consulting fees

from Avedro, Bio-Tissue, Dompe, GSK, Kala, Novartis, Shire, Sun Ophthalmics, and TearLab.

The other presenters, and CPD staff, have no relevant financial relationships with commercial interests as defined by the ACCME.

REGISTRATION AND FEESRegistration for both sessions is limited. The deadline for all registrations is March 27, 2020. Late registrations may not receive all conference materials. Physician SessionPhysician Session fees are $199 for MDs, ODs, and PhDs. There is no fee for Residents or Fellows in training who are not seeking CME credit. The Physician Session includes credit, continental breakfast, lunch, and breaks. All Participants must register online through the links at unceye.org. Registrations will not be processed unless accompanied by full payment. When your registration is processed you will receive an electronic receipt and/or confirmation. If you have not received your confirmation by March 30, 2020, please call 919-843-0264 to inquire.

Technician SessionTechnician Session fees are $100 for the Morning Session only (3.5 Group A Credit Hours) or $150 for the Morning Session, lunch, and two (2) workshop sessions (up to 6.0 Group A Credit Hours) . Workshop registrations are final. All Participants must register online through the links at unceye.org. Registrations will not be processed unless accompanied by full payment. Please fully complete the survey at registration and also indicate the workshops you would like to attend. Workshop availability is on a first-in basis. When your registration is processed you will receive an electronic receipt and/or confirmation. If you have not received your confirmation by March 30, 2020, please call 919-843-0264 to inquire.

REFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICYCancellations must be received in writing by fax, mail, or email to the program coordinator by March 30, 2020. Cancellations received after this date will not be refunded. All cancellations will incur a fee of $75 for the Physician Session and $35 for the Technician Session and will be deducted from your refund (if applicable). Transfer of registration to another UNC School of Medicine conference in lieu of cancellation is not possible. Substitutions are encouraged.

The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation or postponement, the UNC Department of Ophthalmology will fully refund registration fees but is not responsible for any related costs or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by hotels, airlines, rental car, or travel agencies. CONFERENCE LOCATIONSAll Physicians Session activities will take place at the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education, fridaycenter.unc.edu.

Tech Session activities will take place both at the Friday Center and at the Kittner Eye Center, unceye.org.

Although every effort is made to provide a comfortable temperature in the meeting room, it is difficult to find a temperature that is comfortable for everyone. Please bring a jacket, sweater, or light wrap in case the room is too cool for your comfort.

Special dietary requirements will be honored whenever possible. If you need to inform us of a special need, please be sure to notify our office no later than Friday, March 20, 2020.
