• Last 24 hrs: Threat to NW FL no change. Threat to St. Pete sector no change. Threat to Keys sector no change. Threat to Miami sector no change.

• Trajectories of observed oil suggest some sheens will continue to be caught up in the counterclockwise eddy.

• A smaller portion may move into the Loop Current and persist as widely scattered tarballs.

LOOP CURRENT

• Recent modeling reveals a shift in the Loop Current which could significantly reduce the amount of oil forecasted to reach Florida.

• It is less likely oil presently in Loop Current will make it to the FL west coast unless a strong tropical weather system emerges in the Gulf pushing surface oil east.

• Keys could still experience tar balls in the next week.




SIMOPs

• Conditions remain favorable for SIMOPS next 72 hours.

• Top Kill procedure to be executed today. Results of effectiveness will not be immediately known.

• Riser Insertion Tube Tool (RITT) removed to make room for Top Kill procedure.

• Other SIMOP activity will continue as weather conditions permit.

• RITT, Top Hat remain available for reuse.

• Involves reconfiguring existing wellhead equipment to provide a conduit for pumping heavy fluids into the well.• Intent is to stop flow and allow for a permanent seal.• Method has proven successful on land; has never been tried in deep water.
