As usual, our March meeting was both fun and interesting. We had a number of new members come by and we even gave away a reel to a new casting clinic member. Thanks to every- one that came and especially to those who helped out. With the April (and March) showers comes along another month of being busy for us. However, the word of this month is BANQUET. Our annual banquet is on April 16 th at the Stuart Thomas Manor. If you are interested in supporting a great cause (LITU), and enjoying good food, good drinks, and great friends and prizes, come down and join us. If you have a late prize to donate, please contact Pete Dubno or Boyd Shockley as soon as possible. If you would like to attend, please see any board member – we would love to have you there! For our April meeting we will have as our guest speaker John Mordoch. John is the author of “A Fly Fisherman's Guide to the Catskill Coldwater Streams”, besides being a well known speaker. He will be talking about a number of places to fish in the Catskills – be- sides the famous one’s we (and the rest of the fishing world) already know about. John’s knowledge of the Catskill’s is second to none and his presentation is not to be missed. Just ask those who have seen his presentations at the Somerset Show for the last few years! April is also the time to make sure that all our gear is ready for the upcoming season. So, air out those waders, oil those reels, check your lines and rods and get yourself prepared. If we can’t actually be ON the stream, at least it’s nice to know it’s getting close! Last but certainly not least, along with April comes the opening of trout season. Along with tuning up our gear and getting ready for the season in general, remember, it is up to us to Educate, Conserve, Protect and Restore! See you on the stream! Best fishes, Jay Mooney T.U. PHILOSOPHY We believe that trout and salmon fishing isn't just fishing for trout and salmon. It's fishing for sport rather than food, where the true enjoyment of the sport lies in the challenge, the lore, the battle of wits, not necessarily the full creel. It's the feeling of satisfaction that comes from limiting your kill instead of killing your limit. It's communing with nature where the chief reward is a refreshed body and a contented soul, where a license is a permit to use not abuse, to enjoy not destroy our cold water fishery. It's subscribing to the proposition that what's good for trout and salmon is good for the fisherman and that managing trout and salmon for themselves rather than the fisherman is fundamental to the solution of our trout and salmon problems. It's appreciating our fishery resource, respecting fellow anglers and giving serious thought to tomorrow. Cross Currents has donated a guide trip to the LITU banquet for three years in a row. Hi All I just want to pass along a short letter from Dan Plummer, Director of Friends of the Upper Dela-ware River. Hopefully, you can join the fun at the "One Bug" on the weekend of April 23, 24, 25 and help FUDR's efforts in gaining the much needed cold water releases for the Upper Delaware fish-ery. I'll be guiding one of the teams for both days of the event and plan on being at Friday nights cocktail party Capt. Joe Demaladris Cross Currents Fundraising is necessary to do this work and the One Bug™ has been our most successful fund-raiser to date, along with help from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation we have raised enough money to complete the study needed to restore Sands and Cadosia Creeks. We are now ready to begin work on the priority areas of these streams working closely with the Town of Hancock and Delaware County. Please help support our work by participating in the third annual ONE BUG ™ fly-fishing event. This three-day event celebrates the sport and ca-maraderie of fly-fishing by bringing together fly-fishers like you to join us in a weekend of fishing and fun. This year's event will be held April 23,24,25. If you can't make the full three days, join us for the Friday Night Gala at 7:00 PM fea-turing open bar, dinner, live and silent auction, we truly have a blast! The ONE BUG ™ will be held at the Old Capitol Theatre, 170 Front Street, Hancock, and N.Y. Teams are filling up fast and tickets to the Friday night party are limited-so get yours now. For info to either put in a team or to purchase a ticket to the Friday night event go to www.fudr.org and click on "One Bug." Thanks for all your support, Dan Plummer, [email protected] www.fudr.org
