As an introduction to the natural setting of

Sea Horse Key, this project emerges from

the sloping ground of the site. The land-

scape folds into a spatial datum to become

the main circulation system for the UF ma-

rine studies facilities linking the different

functionalities as it progresses in horizontal

motion. The spatial progression itself then

becomes the transition in between the hier-

archy of spaces in the project. The constant

motion of the datum allows a seam less con-

nection with nature and the marine environ-

ment.

The spatial trajectory through the project acts

as an itinerary and an axis for the building. As

the occupants approach the island, the open

path allows a visual connection with the re-

search area where the main marine studies

take place. As the itinerary continues, the gal-

lery space showcases the precedent of the is-

land and its connection to the current functions

it serves. The path then deviates to give access

into the private spaces. The spatial datum then

dissolves into the landscape where the struc-

ture begins a stronger interaction with the natu-

ral elements of the local ecosystem.

This project unfolds in the study of

the basic concepts of architecture as

the making of space and develop-

ment of an architectural language. It

began with the precedent study of a

Bloomingdales store façade at the Mil-

lennia Mall in orlando FL. This project

purely refl ects the dynamic quality of

techtonic elements folding over stere-

otomic masses and interacting in rhyt-

mic movements to create an intimate

set of spatial moments.

This Project focuses on the introduction

of architecture into the landscape. The

project began with the analysis of Mexi-

co City and the creation of a contextual

form based on its urban elements. In a

collaborative effort, an additional analysis

was conducted to study spatial qualities

at a smaller scale. This analysis was de-

rived from the process of preparation of a

traditional Mexican dish which then was

reinterpreted into a spatial concept. The

landscape form resembled early urban

development models that began with the

center of the town square that housed the

main government bodies at the time, then

development would occur in organic for-

mations. The intervention that would help

defi ne the space takes the idea of urban

development as an extrusion in a vertical

motion.

This Luminaire project will be located

in Offi ce dA’s Banq restaurant. This

particular space is wrapped a rhythmic

fl ow of wood panels to create a single

movement. I decided to create a Lumi-

naire that would recreate this design

element with a combination of wooden

strips being woven together forming a

shading device to control the ambient

lighting in the space. The wrapping

of wood will provide direct light to the

table, ambient light through the wood

and diffused light off the ceiling. The

ambient light going through the wood

would enhance the warmth of the

space and compliment a private invit-

ing environment.

In the study of the urban fabric of Savannah Georgia, the unique grid sys-

tem for the city’s layout is a major factor. Within the grid system, there is a

network of central squares that start to defi ne different territories of smaller

scale within the city. These central squares work together to create the city’s

atmosphere, so each square has a different function that relates to its sur-

rounding area. The intervention into the city is based on the concept of the

central squares and the grid represented in the circulation system created

within the model. The spatial qualities of this project are then defi ned by the

use of tectonic elements wrapping upon themselves to create moments of

transition by the use of thresholds. These elements then become apertures

that allow a visual connection with the exterior context.

The location for this project was a city block in New York City that had the highline going through it. The project acts as a

threshold as the highline makes a transition into the masses of the blocks. The extensive scale of this project allowed a

diverse group of functional spaces that create a unique combination for its occupants to interact and enjoy. The façade for

this project incorporates a double skin element to create private winter gardens and allow natural ventilation as a sustain-

able feature. The spatial volumes refl ected on the exterior create public gathering spaces for residents. The fi rst level of

each of these volumes comprise of an interaction platform with several amenities for its occupants.

The circulation system of the proj-

ect acts as an extension of the high-

line in order to bring people into the

main public spaces and back to the

highline without a physical connec-

tion, resembling a fi gure eight form.

A retail strip along this path enhanc-

es the connection while promoting

the fl ow of pedestrian traffi c. This

path would have restaurants, stores

and as well as a visual connection

with the art school’s gallery.
