Location of the site:

Cyprus

Site Analysis:

Lefkosa (Nicosia) is the capital and largest city of Cyprus. The heart of the city is called Walled City which belongs to Venetian Period. Nowadays, Outside the walled city, Nicosia has expanded to become a largecity with various districts for different func-tions.

There is a lack of cultural center in this city. The target of Municipality is encouragingpeople to have more social activities. Accord- ingly, this project was designed to fulfill the government aim.

Concept Process:My concept is originated from the function of cultural center which is Communicatio, connection, and links among people with each other and their environment. In addition, due to the existing old city withdue to the existing old city with historical buildings and in contrast, there is a developing city out of the Walled city inspred me to make a connection with them and apply them in my design, in a way to have different buildings and connect them with different elements. Moreover, the ease of accessibility and dominancy is too important in a cultural center. Accordingly, with analysing the accessibilities of the site and considering on the location of each building based on their priority on their function, I reached to diagram 2; and step by step iof each building based on their priority on their function, I reached to diagram 2; and step by step i developed it by having setting back and connections till I reached to the final proposal.

I got ispired by the shape of artichoke . In addition, according to the analysis I did about the circulation, structure, location of equipments in the factory, and connections between different buildings of the factory in the site, I complete my design and combine all these criteria together.

Factory as an industrial building, needs some fundamental elements, such as circulation of materials and workers, types of structure to cover long spans, and connection of different functions and buildings. Accordingly, these features automatically leads the architect to desin.

The development process of my concept accoring to the function, activities, and circulations are shown in the diagrams.

First of all, I defin the functions of all the surro-unded area of the site. Then according to therequired func-tions (residential, commercial, and offices) and following the hierarchies ofthe buulding heights, I allocated each one inone side of the site. Then, I tried to make easeof accessibilities from different side of site byof accessibilities from different side of site byhaving movement in the form of the buildings.
