Exeter is consistently rated as one of thebest places to live in the UK. With apopulation of around 118,800, it is asafe, student-friendly city, with a vibrantculture and a beautiful historic setting.Plus the South West and everything it hasto offer is right on your doorstep.

The city centre, which is just a short walkfrom the campus, is a perfect fusion ofnew and old. Arts and music-wise, there’s loads goingon. The Exeter Phoenix is a thriving artscentre. Concerts are regularly held in theLemon Grove on campus, and live musiccan also be enjoyed throughout the cityin pubs, clubs and concert halls and atthe large Westpoint venue.

Exeter is also a growing business centre, with many companies choosing to locatehere, and relatively low unemployment. Itis the main administrative centre forDevon and has a thriving retail sector.

And when you want a break from townlife, some of the most stunningcountryside in Britain is right on yourdoorstep. The whole region is a paradisefor outdoor enthusiasts. The wild sceneryof the Dartmoor and Exmoor nationalparks provides an exciting challenge for

One of the reasons I chose the University of Exeter Business School is because it has such a good reputation. It’s also one of only a few universities to offer Economics and Finance together which is what I wanted to study.

Another deciding factor was its location. Exeter is a relatively small city, yet big enough to cater for all your needs. It’s also nice to be able to get to London easily, at the same time as having stunning scenery right on yourdoorstep. Places like Dartmouth and Exmouth are just breathtaking. So you can enjoy a top quality education in areally beautiful place.

hikers, climbers, horse riders and cyclistswhile the gentler rolling hills, rivers andattractive market towns and villages areperfect for exploring at a more leisurelypace.

Exeter is justnine miles from the coastal town ofExmouth, with its long sandy beachesand the Exe estuary perfect for sailors, swimmers, water-skiers, windsurfers andsunbathers. Surfers do have to travel alittle farther from Exeter to the northDevon and Cornwall coasts, but it’s wellworth it for some of the finest surfing inthe UK.

All in all, being located in such a beautifulpart of the world, with easy access toboth city life and quiet beaches, meansyou can look forward to a great quality oflife here.

I chose Exeter for two key reasons. e first being that it’s one of the topuniversities in all of Europe for studying leadership, which is something Iwas very interested in doing. Secondly, it had the best opportunities forstudying abroad. Because I chose Exeter, I’ll be spending the nextacademic year studying leadership at Hong Kong University, one of thetop universities in Asia, which I’m extremely excited about.

Although many of our partnersteach all, or part, of their programmes inEnglish, you may want to work on yourforeign language skills before you go, weoffer the option of including languagestudies during your first and second year,by taking credit bearing modules run byour Foreign Language Centre.

Being given the opportunity to go and study in Spain for a year has been the best thing about coming tostudy here. I left Exeter in 2000, and went to work for Accenture, the globalmanagement consulting, technology services and outsourcingcompany. Accenture help clients develop new business strategies, redesign their processes, exploit technology and improve organisationalperformance. After eight years I joined Kodak to help them develop aconsulting and services business across Europe. e work is varied andchallenging, I get to meet interesting people and find out about all kindsof businesses. I also work where the clients are, so my job takes me allover the UK and Europe.

Reading Economics at Exeter gave me a good grounding in the globaleconomy, and helped me understand how this affects businesses andindividuals. I feel I still benefit from the knowledge I gained atuniversity, especially when I work with clients assisting them inunderstanding their current situation and helping them improve theirperformance.

Because so much of what we study relates to current, topical business life, I’vedeveloped a much better understanding of the business world around me. Often weanalyse the business stories hitting the headlines. For example, climate change is abig story at the moment and we’ve looked at lots of well known companies, such asMarks & Spencer, Nokia and Tesco, to establish their real position.
