We offer an extensive range of Foundation and Honours Degrees validated by Bangor University, Glyndŵr University, the University of Wales, Newport, and Cardiff Metropolitan University.

These qualifications have been developed in consultation with employers and are directly relevant to the world of work, so you’ll find your degree is held in high regard by potential employers after you graduate. You may also save thousands of pounds, as recent research shows that a student who studies locally saves, on average, £17,500 compared to someone who goes away to university.

Various financial assistance schemes can significantly reduce the fees payable for both full-time and part-time degrees.

Coleg Llandrillo merged with Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor in 2010 and Coleg Menai in April 2012 to form Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, one of the largest groups of colleges in the UK.

This prospectus contains information on the Higher Education courses offered by all three colleges.

As a result of a new Strategic Partnership with Bangor University, a new University Centre to be developed on the Rhos-on-Sea Campus will provide contemporary, dedicated facilities for our Higher Education students.

These developments will further improve access to education and training opportunities of the highest quality in North and West Wales.

Whatever course you choose, you can be sure of excellent tuition and personal attention; the last Higher Education Review at Coleg Llandrillo highlighted the guidance and support we give our students. Coleg Llandrillo was also recently awarded the prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Further and Higher Education – one of only 21 universities and colleges throughout the United Kingdom to receive this honour.

We look forward to welcoming you to our College.

Glyn Jones OBEChief Executive Officer/Principal

Principal’s Welcome

Choosing to study for a degree is an important decision and we are pleased that you are considering studying with us.

Principal’s Welcome

What degree course is right for you?

What Degree Course is Right For You?

Higher Nationals (HNC/HND)A HNC (Higher National Certificate) is a work-related university level qualification normally studied part-time for two years or full-time for a year. On completion, you could progress onto an HND or Foundation degree.

A HND (Higher National Diploma) is a university level qualification that takes two years full-time or three years part-time to complete. Successful completion may allow you to be accepted onto the third year of a degree course.

Foundation DegreesAs a general guide, a Foundation Degree has 240 credits. Most Foundation Degrees require a student either to be working or to have a substantial work experience placement. Unlike some undergraduate programmes, they’re not just about theory. They provide you with the knowledge and skills that employers need, by combining theory with its application to the workplace. This will help you to enhance your employment opportunities and to prepare for more responsibility or promotion. In addition to the subject-specific modules, each student will complete four Learning in Action modules and two Research Methods & Study Skills modules. These will encourage independent thinking, develop your skills in academic writing, research and giving presentations, and train you to analyse and evaluate your progress and performance.

Honours DegreesAn Honours Degree has 360 credits. In some subjects, the Honours Degree is studied full-time over three years. In others, a Foundation Degree is studied first and this can then be topped up to an Honours Degree with one or two years’ further study.

Specific information about what’s available in each subject area is explained later.

We offer Higher Nationals, Foundation Degrees and Honours Degrees in a range of subjects.

Whichever degree you choose, you will usually only have to attend College for a maximum of two days a week, so you can complete your studies and coursework at times convenient to you.

6

Our online resources can be accessed remotely so you can work offsite on the days when you’re not in College.

7

Our degrees enhance your employment opportunities and prepare you for more responsibility or promotion at work.

8

All of our Foundation Degrees offer progression opportunities to Honours level of study, either here or at another university.

Fees & Funding

Course Modules & CreditsModules listed under each course are indicative and do not provide a complete list of all modules that will be studied. This information can be found on individual course leaflets on the College’s website. Each year, you will study a number of different modules, whose size will range from 5 – 20 credits.

Modes of StudyThe modes of study indicated for each course relate to the number of credits studied in an academic year. If the mode of study is full-time, you will be studying 120 credits in each twelve month academic year (September – August). If it is part-time, you will be studying up to 90 credits.

Full-time or Part-time FeesWhether you pay full-time or part-time fees depends on the number of credits studied in a twelve month academic year, not your attendance pattern. You will have to pay full-time fees if you are studying 120 credits in a twelve month academic year. If you are studying up to 90 credits in a twelve month academic year, you will pay part-time fees.

Full-time or Part-time Attendance Attendance will vary from one degree course to another, but whatever you study, you will usually only have classes on one or two days a week, even if you are studying full-time. Some classes run in the evening, some courses run for about 30 weeks and others run for about 45 weeks in each twelve month academic year.
